Just to refresh our my memories.

You don't cook anything ever - this is like the most you have ever done with providing yourself with food (on a 'cook it' level) . It's normally your elderly father that still cooks for you, because you normally don't.

Or am I thinking of someone else.
He used to run a restaurant, of course he cooks. But I can't eat his stuff all the time. He never cooks anything fancy, and his stuff is high sodium and heavy on garlic and ginger and stuff.

Besides, he left town for a couple days last night. :D I have chicken wings, deli sliced turkey, and other veggies and stuff to last me through the weekend. I can always cook rice and ramen for myself.

TL;DR: I don't cook. I am NOT incapable of cooking something.

OK, I think I was under the belief that you said once that you simply could not cook and only your dad fed you. I like the improved picture better. :D

I do the same thing to my users. The service I use is KnowBe4 - they send out a nice assortment of spam to entice people based on different settings I choose. Then I know who's good and who's not in terms of security.

I wish this would be a mandatory internet user test they would do before letting anyone use the internet :D Sign up with an internet provider and be given a test. Probably wouldn't fly, but it would make life so much easier.

Since last week, I've been getting password reset emails from my old hotmail address I've had since the service first started. I guess a credential list must be circulating as I've had three of them over the course of the week, and I think Microsoft must have changed their security defaults after last year's breach as it generates a code to the recovery email associated with it.

Thing is, they're old credentials, and it amuses me that either a person or script will try to reset the password after not getting in, given that it's not even something they can respond to since they'll never get the code.

Not sure now. Been too long. I doubt Id do that. I think what it was is I searched for my old passwords to see what sites they were on using CK. They must have kept the info and warned me again when it came up on new lists. Id never give any site current passwords.

Seem to have a lot of woodpeckers around here. I think Ive seen more this year than my entire life before this. We always called them redheaded woodpeckers but thats a different species. Ours seem to be Red-Bellied Woodpeckers. Though I have no idea why as they dont seem to have red bellies :) Just now me and Buster were sitting on the front porch and saw 4 at once pecking and hooting their calls on the top of our giant old dead oak in the front yard. Maybe they have a nest hole up there.

They look like this.

And I got a random person trying to friend me on the PS4 yesterday. It's due to the fact that years back, there was a PSN hack that exposed some lax security on PSN's end where a spate of spammers would randomly add you to conversations in order to glean info about you (and I had several of these over the years), and account holders didn't have the ability to prevent such a thing until it forced Sony to reconsider how their security measures work. Then, they had added privacy settings so that you have to become friends before able to do anything else. So, it seems that old info might have resurfaced recently.

CNN
The current Saharan dust episode is leading to the worst dust storm in the Caribbean in decades.

Over the weekend, Saharan dust moved into the Caribbean. By Monday, it had changed the tropical blue skies into a hazy brown-gray color.
...
Thursday morning, people in places like Brownsville in Texas and Houston will likely wake up to a beautiful sunrise and a hazier than normal sky.
...
This thicker layer is likely to reach Texas by Friday and then take a turn to the east. If the forecast model is right, it will move over most of the Southeast and MidAtlantic states over the weekend.

A very sad day for me today. Had to put down one of my Yorkies. He was 16.
About killed me digging a grave in the rocks and clay my backyard is made of.
He spent his first six months of existence in a kennel before we got him. He was a good stud and well beloved by me.

Sorry for your loss, Dave. You gave him 16 good years.

We just spent an hour sitting in the car while Warren saw the urgent care vet. He's young and it's probably not serious, but pet mortality was top-of-mind for us earlier tonight.

I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. Grave digging is both an unpleasant and oddly cathartic experience that I never enjoy.

Anyone else noticed slow YouTube video loads? They have always instantly popped up until a couple days ago and I started noticing the video area would stay white while a round pie like timer would spin in the bottom left of where the video should be. Once it fills once or twice the video pops in and starts. I wonder if they are doing this on purpose since they are being used so much?

Try using Invidio.us instead, or the Invidition Firefox extension.

It's a more privacy-friendly alternative front-end to YouTube with the following features:
GitHub.com wrote:Invidious is an alternative front-end to YouTube
  • Audio-only mode (and no need to keep window open on mobile)
  • Free software (AGPLv3 licensed)
  • No ads
  • No need to create a Google account to save subscriptions
  • Lightweight (homepage is ~4 KB compressed)
  • Tools for managing subscriptions:
    • Only show unseen videos
    • Only show latest (or latest unseen) video from each channel
    • Delivers notifications from all subscribed channels
    • Automatically redirect homepage to feed
    • Import subscriptions from YouTube
  • Dark mode
  • Embed support
  • Set default player options (speed, quality, autoplay, loop)
  • Does not require JS to play videos
  • Support for Reddit comments in place of YT comments
  • Import/Export subscriptions, watch history, preferences
  • Does not use any of the official YouTube APIs
  • Developer API

I'd guess that it's on your end or your ISP. They make their money serving videos, not not serving them.

Its Daehawk time at Smoove's house.

Me I have a bunch of watches but no battery. The battery that came in my Timex lasted 10 years or more and when it died I replaced it from JC Penny and it died a year or two later I think it was. I gave up and used my collectible Star Trek watch my wife got me one Christmas but the bank broke after a few years and I never got around to fixing it. So been watchless for about 5 years.

Thanks for the info on that YT extension. Will be looking into that.

Just to clarify, Invidio.us is not a program, it's a more privacy-friendly alternative front-end to YouTube. So it doesn't require downloading anything at all. I think the name/URL is ingenious, given that Google almost certainly abhors the notion of anything that allows users to deGoogle.

Invidition is a Firefox extension -- which would require a download -- that simply redirects YouTube (and Twitter) links to the relevant alternative ads-free, privacy-friendly, interfaces.

YMMV, but personally I welcome any opportunity to remove myself from Google's privacy-invasive revenue stream.

If you're using the Invidition extension, try changing your Quality setting to dash. If not, try appending the following to the end of an Invidio.us video URL:

Code: Select all

&quality=dash
E.g.

Code: Select all

https://invidio.us/watch?v=P5_GlAOCHyE&quality=dash

Well, that was a fun morning. Went to put a load of wet clothes in the dryer, and it started making a nasty buzzing sound and wouldn't spin. A little internet research and a call to my handyman friend, and we're out $300 for a new motor.

Wife goes to leave for an appointment, and there's a horrific "sproing" noise when she opens the garage door. Spring broke, and we're gonna be out $300 for a new spring.

On her way to the appointment, the right front tire of her mini-van starts making an awful squealing and grinding noise. Not quite sure what it is yet, but it doesn't sound cheap.

And to top it all off, at my dentist appointment I find out I need yet another root canal (my 8th).

Once you pass three, you have to have three threes. Otherwise they'd be coming in twos. So you have five more coming.

I woke up to raw sewage all over my garage floor. The drain in there backed up.

The city came in a big truck and rooted it out from the main at the street but said that was clear and it was our responsibility to root the lateral pipe to the house.

So I've got that expense to deal with THEN I get to clean feces from my entire garage floor. Probably just going to burn it all down and fake my own death.

That someone was in Chicago and it was a basement and not raw sewage. (I want to say ILB)

Raw sewage + "it's not the city's problem" is ugh as far as I know but maybe something your homeowner's might be part of.

Good luck Z Corn. May I never have to know first hand what the proper course of action is.

I do get sewer backup in the basement on occasion, but it's really just water. Still, every time it happens I consider the prospect of burning it all down and faking our deaths. The problem is that it's really difficult to fake 5 deaths, so I end up cleaning it up and hoping that we can sell the house before the next incident.
