$iljanus wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 3:56 pm So my daughter is excited for some reason to be getting a cast because she fell on her left hand while skateboarding and her wrist may be broken. Under normal circumstances we probably would go to our local urgent care for quick x-rays and a splint but we were quite concerned about going into an urgent care facility because of the possibility of exposure to someone coming in due to covid-19. Luckily for us she's 13 so she gets to go to Boston Children's which drastically reduces the chance of exposure. That said, a trip to the hospital is a little different these days with just mom going instead of both of us (she's the physician. On the other hand she's also the sole income source so perhaps in retrospect maybe I should have taken her), masks packed for wife and daughter and wife is also bringing the N95 mask if she thinks there might be a need for it. We're not wearing those masks daily since they're the version with a valve but for this instance she's bringing a cloth mask to wear over it so the valve is covered.

Again as these things go I'm glad my daughter is being a real trooper about it and hope she gets a pick of colors for the cast. Also really thankful that she's going to Boston Children's instead of a regular hospital with adults. Granted the numbers in MA have been on a downward trend but we are still really vigilant with our behaviors because viruses are crafty buggers.

Edit: Got a picture from the family and the hospital provides masks which makes sense for standardization. Hope they're seen quick and are out of there soon!
Had to take the oldest in for abdominal x-rays a couple of weeks ago. We were masked up when we went in, but they still gave us their masks. They told them to just put them on over our masks if we wanted. Fortunately we had an appointment so there was minimal wait (and very few people around in general).
That's my purse! I don't know you!

Good Lord! Thats what I said to the Ford place near me when they told me the price of a part I need. Online that part is $20 - $45...and free shipping. $91 is what the Ford place quoted me. nutso.

Guess Ill take my chances online with some place they doesn't have shit rating like all the places Ive checked. The part will be junk I bet. Frak.

Checked the ones I could find. Many I used to use are gone now. They were usually owned by older folks who passed on. All...and I mean ALL...the stores online I checked and they have crap for ratings and very bad customer service....I mean from no products shipped when $6K was spent to refusing refunds to outright calling customers thieves when they block payment on bad orders. I just dont know what to do.

I dont super duper need the part to have the window repaired but he has to remove it and put it back anyways and the part has been broken for about 5 years. I simply used some super industrialvelcro to hold it in place when it broke...but that itself is pulling and stretching the door plastic out and apart. So figure get it done at the same time. And he doesn't order parts like this so its up to me to get it THEN get the window fixed.

A place Ive used before over the years has it and I know they sell good parts. its also just $28 on sale.....but its out of stock. Said it should be in in 2 weeks so Ill just wait. better yet shipping is just $3 and he sent me a text on the phone showing the quoted sale price and if I order within 30 days I give them the code from that and I get it at that price no matter what it may go back up to. Love that place.

But Ill have to wait a few weeks....darn. Well can always roll down my window in winter lol. Been needing that window fixed for over 5 years and in this drive thru only world now its HELL to go places.

Something funny if you love horror fiction...

This long-running thread (and there are others by the author) pretends to be a discussion of writing by various famous horror authors (from Poe to Lovecraft to King to Rice, etc). It's a really terrific use of Twitter for satire.

The models without the chrome “Bronco” written on the front grill look much cooler, but I like the looks overall. No mpg listed yet, so I’m guessing it’s as bad or worse than the Wrangler there.

Dude, you post the most inhumane things you do to your body with things that can only marginally be described as "food"...

Your body struggles when you feed it processed cheese substitutes and hardcore fats. You've talked before about chronic pain, and it might get better if you ate healthier. Just worried about you is all.

Got those stickers off my car glass. The first one peeled off but the second was was made of some metallic crap and I had to use my new razor scraper to remove. Both left hardened stickum behind. I poured some Goo Gone and it instantly turned into some non sticky rubbery slime like stuff that my razor skimmed right off. That part of the window is the cleanest on the entire car now. Amazing stuff.

I have a feeling Im going to need to get a property survey. The neighbors that bought a 20' strip of land from my in laws years ago have cleaned out that fence row and opened up the entire area to my home. And just in the last few weeks they've started mowing 10' more into my property. Now maybe they are just being nice and trying to help me out but I feel like its more an animal pissing to mark its territory only with a lawn mower. If they own it fine I can stop paying property tax on it..but if not I want to know my lines. Theres a nice bush that blooms there and now they are mowing a good deal on my side of it. I already lost a apple tree and my father in law's grandmother's rose bush to them.

Not sure where to ask for one or how much they cost though.

Weird taste, though. Can't say that I particularly like it.

I think they are rebranding Throwback now, to "Mountain Dew Real Sugar". The packaging is dark green, looks more like regular Mtn Dew.

My mortgage company has altered my forbearance. Its now for 3 months instead of two. Thats good I suppose. Will help me catch up to repairs and other bills. But I hope they dont expect me to repay this instantly in full or something. Im expecting it to be added as 3 more payments to the end of my loan not as late payments or something.

Maybe I should call. This stuff is beyond me.

I can't speak to your terms but under most cases it will be adding three months to the end of your loan plus all of the interest that accrues on that unpaid equity until you pay off the house. Depending on your interest rate and the amount time you have left that could easily be adding 4.5 more payments to the end of your loan rather than 3.

When I did the math on my home, 360 payments over 30 years at 5.5% saw me paying nearly twice the cost of my home. If your payment amount isn't going up, your interest isn't coming down, and you are adding time to the end of your payment then it is highly probable that you are adding more payment to the end of your loan. Something will give unless your forbearance is being subsidized.

Yes, call. My understanding is there's really two options. The first is that the mortgage company defers payment for [X] months and then magically assumes at your next scheduled payment you're supposed to pay back the total amount deferred over [X] and continue along. How they expect this to be helpful, I'm not clear but I guess it delays them from technically starting foreclosure proceedings for 90 days. The second option is the one that (to me) makes more sense - they just add [X] months on to your policy, extending your payoff date by 3 months. Now, whether they also somehow hose you with additional interest, fees, or whatever I have no idea. However, if there's really a mortgage company out there that is demanding you pay a house off in full by February of 2045 and they simply cannot tolerate the same mortgage being paid off in May of 2045 I'd really question what they were up to.

It's not hosing you, it's the way things are done. It's the same as "adding the closing costs or refinance costs into your payment" or paying the minimum on a credit card debt and never seeing the end of the tunnel. it's enticing for those who don't want to do math and a sad reality for those in too deep to get out easy.

But the inverse is also true in most cases (check your terms, sometime your payments just will just be applied to next your payment not toward paying off equity). You get a 30 year mortgage (when rates were 5.5%) and if you pay a 13th payment a year at the outset, it shaves nearly a year off your the end of your term.

You're only getting hosed if your loan officer is selling you on one thing but the terms are for another, like if they sell you on a three month loan extension but what the paperwork says is that you are going to have 4 month balloon payment in four months (which I am told is sometimes the case)
