Just my favourite TMI story.
Huh that is a weird reaction. Like you said maybe it had nothing to do with it. But also like you I tend to go with what I see and avoid things like it for years .

Lordy my mortgage has been transferred AGAIN. Since we got it in 2009 this is the ...uh... 1,2...hmm...5th..ya 5th place that has owned it. I dont get why they do that if Im making all payments on time and in full. Dont see why they'd sell a mortgage that is getting them money every month. You'd think they'd have to sell it at a lower price to some other company. All I can figure is its some kind of scam. Not against me but between the loan owners. They HAVE to be getting something for selling it between themselves like this otherwise why do it.

If it makes you feel better, you were probably one of thousands sold in a single transaction. The reason would be one company wanting short term profit and another being okay with waiting... then they get impatient and sell you off again.

We've changed hands once in 11 years with our home, and actually to a company that had a better UI and setup than the original, so no complaints.

More likely bundling. They group up bundles to resell. No one would buy only mortgages that are in default or high risk. So they bundle ones that are "safer" with "riskier" ones. Also, I'm sure that the interest rate on your loan is also a factor. Plus how much you still owe. Remember that it does still cost them money to administer a loan. And one company's cost/benefit analysis is not the same as another company's. One may be more willing to get less return on the investment.

Ours got sold three times before I converted it to a HELOC.

I imagine Dae's is attractive because he's paying a double-digit interest rate, IIRC.

Any day that starts with your corporate antivirus deciding to block chrome.exe from launching is going to be a good day.

Added bonus: The control system won't let me add chrome.exe to the excluded app list, even as a temporary fix. I have to actually turn off the AV entirely for people to keep working. It's a known bug, so hopefully a fix is on the way soon.

It's that time of year when the local TV fees wars are in full bloom. Many local stations off the air while they and DISH fight it out. Last time they went off the air it was for a few months it seems like.

So knowing your benefits are changing, are there not food pantries or other local food-based charity support services you could contact *right now* to help bridge the gap you've just been notified of?

You should at least file an appeal. Call and demand to speak to case worker. Bug someone until you get a human being to review your case, not just some computer algorithm.

AT&T/DirecTV has also just lost 64 stations across 50+ markets.
DirecTV was the only major provider in Denver that still carried NHL and NBA games for the local teams, after Comcast and DISH dropped them due to a very ugly contract dispute. DirecTV jumped at the chance to offer very attractive promotions to Colorado customers to get them to switch. I'm guessing that there are a lot of very unhappy people around here right now.

They did that to me every year. Any increase in my disability resulted in a decrease - often larger - somewhere else. Some might say that it means that everything stayed balanced (gain a dollar, lose a dollar), but the increase is there to counter the rising cost of living every year. Countering it means that the costs go up, but the income stays the same.

Five years ago I started a project to build a chess set out of plastic bottles. I'd use different size Coke bottles for the pawns, knights, and kings. Orange juice bottles for the queens, Gatorade bottles for the rooks, and coffee creamer bottles for the bishops. I started it because I figured it would be easier to hold my kids interest in chess if the pieces were large. I ended up storing it because I couldn't figure out how to get a large enough chessboard that wouldn't break the bank.

Fast forward to today. After being hooked on The Queen's Gambit I took the pieces out of the box to see what was missing. The kids were very excited to see them. Turns out we are only missing a black pawn and 2-liter Coke bottles for the kings. And I found a nylon chessboard that was big enough for about $50.

Image

I think I'll repaint the white pieces with glossy white to match the glossy black pieces. And my wife suggested I use spray bottles for the knights to make them more distinct from the pawns.

i like it. post more photos when done!

i suggest the next step is to construct a board out of cut-out squares of used plastic (or whatever material) food wrappers - light ones for white, dark ones for black.

(also, read the original book of The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis [who also wrote The Man Who Fell To Earth])

My retired mother and her husband just sent me a Christmas present in case I can't get back to Ohio to see them over the holiday due to the pandemic. And once again they spent WAY too much. I understand that I'm one of the few living relatives they still keep in touch with, but it makes me feel awful that they spend that much money on gifts that I often times don't really use. They're on a fixed income now and I wish they'd just keep it reasonable. However, whenever I bring that up, they get somewhat insulted.

I forget who originally had our mortgage but we got a letter saying that it had been moved and then shortly after we were offered a new mortgage rate deal that was literally impossible to turn down. So sometimes having your mortgage sold can be beneficial.

Over the weekend the original 3 major networks were running a ticker saying Direct TV would be dropping them on Dec 4th and that they should call Direct. So I guess that wasn't resolved yet?

I have posted this before, but I think I know why all the constant offers to refinance at a lower rate. It may make sense if you are having difficulty making your monthly payment because it will go down. The catch is you start over paying interest first, so you are not decreasing your principal as fast.

That is true. Loans are interest forward.

There's an effort on to buy the house where Tolkien lived and wrote and turn it into a museum and center for study of his works.

The video at the link is heart-warming and worth watching if you're a Tolkien fan.

I saw it and find it laughable. Any of those actors like McKellen could simply pay the $6 million out of their pocket to save the home. Then if they didn't want to keep it sell it themselves. Instead they are pandering to others and fans to shell out for it. I find that awful. The house should be saved yes...but these actors with so much cash should do it or have the UK government do it to save it as part of their country's history stuff.

The UK government is in the process of imploding over Brexit. They're not building any museums.

Obviously there are rich people with more than $6 million available to pull this off, but that's true of any cultural project: the goal of a campaign like this is to raise awareness and produce attention. No one is going to donate who can't afford it, and no one is being ripped off, but people interested in the project will now follow it and perhaps become visitors.

PR is PR. My sister will probably throw them $20, and she'll be happy to do it because she's a lifelong Tolkien aficiando and will enjoy feeling connected to the project.

Why so bitter? It's not like it's a scam.

I love the flexibility, especially for heavier items considering I don't drive (but am in a very walkable part of town). But I've actually found it's about as time consuming, between planning the order, being available to answer the personal shopper, and accepting the delivery. I definitely enjoy not having to spend additional time out in my mask though.
