Years ago when me and my wife were considering a used riding mower I could find many nice ones on Facebook marketplace here in my town. But now that I actually can get one and need one theres jack shit here. If I do see a good one priced well it says "ships to you" and when I look is some other state. I dont trust that and further than i can spit on them. Scams all. Ugh.

Try searching the nearest Craigslist for your locale.

Had forgot about craigslist. Its how we got this pushmower around 2009.

EDIT:...Craigs has only the next town over as closest to me. Theres only a couple listings from my town. Doubt someone will deliver it to me. I have no truck and no one to do it. Im alone.

We used to have a little free newspaper here in town a decade or two ago that was a free listing place of everything. But I think they got old and quit or died. Dangit.

Perhaps not. Or they could be willing to do so for an extra fee. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. So it's worth at least enquiring to find out.

Yeah, I deleted it because in hindsight it seemed superfluous.

I give Elon Musk some shit over some of his views and actions but I gotta give him props for what he did in TX to help those cold turtles they saved by the thousands.

When they got them out of the cold water they had no power to heat the building and warm up the turtles but Musk whose SpaceX place is nearby sent over a giant generator off their own launchpad to provide them power. Saved the little guys lives. So +1 to Musk and the SpaceX gang.

If I BCC you on something, it's usually because I want you to be aware of information or a situation without the other parties knowing that you've been copied.

When you then "Reply All", it kinda defeats the purpose.

I've found that there are a lot of people that appear to be unaware that there is a Reply option; they seem to think that the only option is Reply All.

I just read where two people died in Death Valley after their vehicle got two flat tires. The article didn't go into details as to why they left their vehicle.
Maybe the vehicle wouldn't move but if it were me I'd drive that damn thing two flat tires or not back to safety.

No kidding. I melted a motor in my truck years ago when the oil pressure dropped to zero (blown seal caused all the oil to drain out) but given that it was 45° below zero, late at night, on an empty highway, I just kept going until I reached the city and then pushed it the last couple miles to make it home.

That engine never ran again but I'd rather get a new motor than freeze to death on the side of a North Dakota highway.

I was driving my truck in the mountains to go skiing when the oil light came on (this was back when warning lights actually meant something). That light had been shorting out intermittently so I ignored it. I arrived about 10 minutes later and checked the oil to be on the safe side - it was empty. It took 5 cans of oil. Also good thing it was cold outside.

TLDR: Unintentional oil change.

I keep thinking I want to go bowling. But I dont. And if I did I doubt I could anymore. But bowling still comes to mind when Im not expecting it. Between my back being worse and that fall busting both wrists I think my bowling days are behind me. Then again my right wrist is not as bad as my left..so never know. There I go again!

over in the Resident Alien thread, somebody mentioned Nick Cave, so I wanted to tell my Nick Cave story

Way back in the day, I worked in a small office, in the early day of networking. (we had token ring for cripes sake) and LAN parties were still a thing, somebody had the bright idea to use the office computers, instead of us all lugging our home machines to somebodies house.

This was a brilliant plan.

The game in question was Civilization. Now we didn't own a bunch of copies of it, instead we had a cracked version, it would work for multiplayer, as long as you had 'something' in the CD drive, and the host had the actual game disc.

One night, my workmates decided to have a go, and a friend was using my computer. I had left Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in my disc drive, because I was listening to it at work.
The friend using my computer didn't bother to check what disc was in the drive. So as he played through the game, the music being played for each civilization was one of the tracks off the Nick Cave CD, including his own country music. Every time there was a scientific advance, or contact with another country, the music would play, and he would swear, and it kept getting louder and louder as the evening went on.
despite it not being my fault, he never forgave me for the Nick Cave incident.

P.S. I really enjoyed hearing Nick Cave on the Mars TV Show

Firefox is always plugging human interest or whatever you call the type stories. Today, I see a picture that looks like kraken entitled "The Healing Power of Gardens"

NM, the preview looked like kraken, I was going to link the "article" but when I clicked on it, the bald head not exposed in the preview changed the dude's whole look.

It it the time of year where we start take interest in the weather by proxy of your tomatoes yet?

For that matter were you the first OOer to profess their joy in gardening before it became an OO thing? I'm not part of that group. I hate weeding with a thousand fiery daggers from hell, so I don't enjoy gardening. A result is I don't pay attention to the gardening threads that begin sprouting around this time of year every year.

Years ago I was looking at used riding mowers. Was tons of them for sale. Now that I can afford one there are none. Well a few but they are overpriced or junk.

Check out two different ads.....
42 inch cut, 19 horse-power Kohler Courage motor. Used for 1200 hours, maintenance kept up. Garage kept, never left outside when not in use. Comes with original blades, mulching blades, mulch plug, and two keys. Manuals included.
$600. This is the best one I can find right now. I dont like Cub Cadet due to a brand new CC push mower breaking on the 2nd use years ago. And its $600 which is a hella deal normally but I dont want to and really cant afford to pay more than $400 or $450. If I paid this Id be short later on things.

Then you see ads like this nitwit.
Like new 42 mower deck with new belt $150
Yep totally looks new to me.

As long as we're talking weed murder, does anyone have a good, preferably organic solution for killing weeds in the cracks of my sidewalk?

I've got about 30 feet of front sidewalk with weeds that spring up alongside and between the tiles. I'd prefer not to be dumping poison into the local water system. Is there something I can do to shrink the weeds to an aesthetically acceptable level?

(Someone once told me to use white vinegar. How would that work? Dilute it or not? Pour it or spray it?)
