My wife is constantly breaking things. Some are very important and some are I could care less. It happens a lot. Every time I want to say "Stupid" but of course I don't. She can't help herself. Just like the dogs pooping on the floor. By this time that's all they know. Yelling at them won't help and at 15 years olde nothing I can do is going to change them.
Thank god when I do something stupid I can yell like crazy at myself. A little too much perhaps.

Wife has been proudly breaking things since 1956 so I don't expect that to change. Most of what she breaks is crap that shouldn't have existed in the first place. Of course she always tries to build back better. Wife is very fond of things. Every Amazon box that arrives is something else I'll have to throw away if I'm unfortunate enough to outlive her, and Amazon boxes arrive every day.

Heard a loud noise earlier and felt a shaking. My thought was sonic boom. Online people think earthqake. News says it was SpaceX re entry. But they said it was felt to Alabama. Im in TN. Still think thats what it was. Must have been really high to reach here.

I knew there was a live-action version of Space Battleship Yamato (aka Starblazers)

I didn't know there was a plan for a US Version where they tried to do it with a Western Crew and raise the USS Arizona. (Good thing that didn't go anywhere)

I also didn't know they not only redid the series as movies more than once, they also did a prequel and a "far future" sequel.

But then, I've found that while the imagery is good, the whole idea of rebuild the Yamato as a spaceship is pretty ridiculous, IMHO.

But then a lot of the space combat imagery definitely inspired what's to come. Those small craft swarm that took out the Enterprise in Star Trek: Beyond in Kelvinverse? Yamato did it first.

It's available on Amazon, but it costs $$$. *sigh* $15 per season in SD, and there are 4 seasons. And that's just SBY 2199. There's also SBY 2202. Unfortunately, Amazon does not have the third series.

Seen parts of the live action Japanese one. It seemed good. really liked the gun firing.

Altho the Space Yamato looked cooI never cared for the series too much. (animated)

Ive ate the generic store brands of mustard , mayo, and ketchup for at least 20 years. Ive always found them really close to the name brands in flavor. Sometimes I thought there was no difference or they were even better. In most generics we always got they were better. My wife had a knack for finding the best stuff.

For the heck of it Ive decided to try the name brands in these 3 items lately . I think Ive shot myself. I like the name brands more it seems. Frenches mustard, Heinz ketchup, Hellman's moyo. Actually Ive been buying Hellmanns for well over a decade. Generic mayo has never suited me. I did used to get it sometimes to save money.

Anyways the costs aren't that much differnt really.

Mustard - Frenches $1.13.....generic 88 cent

Mayo - Hellmanns $2.50 ......generic $1.99

Heinz ketchup - $2.99 ......generic $1.29

Theres not enough savings there unless Im really hurting...like I am sometimes. But I love the name brands. They ARE different enough. Plus I dont use the mustard and ketchup up quickly. They both last months. The mayo I eat a jar a month. I should cut it down and its on my list. But it makes other foods taste so much better.

My subwoofer for my PC system suddenly sounds like a wet fart instead of a thump.. Joy.

Do towns have a place that can re-foam a woofer cone? My PC Klipsch sub has a busted foam spot. Ive taped it for now but would like it fix for good. Otherwise I have to replace it..ugh.

With your extremely limited income, realistically I'd suspect that if they exist, any such local services are likely to be prohibitively expensive. In terms of keeping costs to a minimum, you could try contacting The Speaker Exchange to find out if they can provide you with a suitable DIY speaker recone kit that may be more slightly more affordable.

$60+ for some foam seems a bit high. I wonder if it needs special tools like a heat gun or something. Cant afford that right now anyways. Ive taped it and its not simply rattling now. Ill see if I can find something cheaper in that area though.

EDIT : Found this one for $20...still looking. Its scary to think of doing this. Never did this before.

Stuff like this makes me miss Radio Shack. I bet they'd carry speaker repair kits. But no one around here does it seems. You'd think a place called Electronic Express that all they sell is tech would have that. NOPE.

I doubt the foam they put into those "gap filler" spray would work, but if you have a really ratty speaker feel free to try it for science.

Had foiled chicken in my freezer. Decided to see what I actually had. Its been there months. 3 breasts and 2 thighs. So now Im boiling the thighs with 1 breast and baking the other two after refoiling them. Chicken for days. And room in the freezer. Next time Im using a sharpie to mark whats in the foil and when I put it in there.

Ive checked around on that speaker refoam kit stuff. No one here has those or does the work. So looking online I can get them from $10 - $20 - $60. Ill try to decide on one and then come the first of next month order one when my check comes before I spend it on other needs.

I'm feeling the sandwich generation label for the first time.

Two months ago I mentioned my aging parents. The uncertainty of the summer is gone; mostly the doctors seem to know what is happening and it is now a matter of seeing how their 80+ year old bodies take the treatment. They are together and are in a state where we can't do anything talk and support. It feels ok even good perhaps.

The flip side is that my son is now gainfully employed (yes!) and will be moving out of our house soon. Which leaves my mother in law alone. Her husband died long ago. Covid and the combination of aging and suburbia make it hard for her to see people. She is living in our house with our son on and off during these last two years as his college life was disrupted by Covid but when he leaves she will not be able to manage the stairs.

There are reasons I might have retired and moved back to Georgia now anyway but I'm struggling with the idea of moving back because of an aging parent even as I feel the pull of trying to get her into a better situation.

I'm 5 months into what's going to be at least a year-long stint of living in one state while my family is in another. I travel back most weekends.

The emotional strain of being alone for 5 days a week and never really seeing my kids and wife is really breaking my spirit. I'm on anti-depressants, vitamins, and caffeine and find myself acting in ways that could only be described as clinically depressed. It's taking just about everything I have to keep up a happy face at work and smile for the wife when we talk. I've stopped getting to work 15-20 minutes early and barely manage to hand in schoolwork assignments on time for the class I'm taking. Each morning is a fight to put one foot in front of the other and leave the apartment to go to work.

I'm kind of locked in here. There's a mound of reasons to stay the course - better schools, more money, good job, building a house, more recreational opportunities, generally better quality of life ... but only one for giving up - being back with my family.

I figured I'd be able to handle this without blinking. I spent 6.5 years in virtual solitude, living like an employed hermit, a few years before I met my wife. I'm remembering now that it was actually a dark, desperate time in my life and there was no joy in that isolation. I wouldn't say I was miserable, but more "empty".

Winter is coming. It's only going to get worse when the nights are longer and the hellacious noise of studded snow tires stop me from wanting to drive 4hrs home on weekends.

Recently I've been feeling like I'm losing agency in my life because I'm making some choices based on helping others instead of myself. Which might mean that me ideas are way off base but who knows. Do you need to travel back most weekends? Could they come visit you? Could you all meet partway and have a mini-vacation or long weekend? Can you plan a couple of weekends where you very specifically go off and do things for yourself? This sounds like a good time to break out of a developing rut.

Our lives are 120% designed around my wife's 13 dogs. We haven't taken a honeymoon in our 12+ years of marriage because we never found anyone we trusted to care for that many dogs at once without worrying constantly. The kids aren't old enough to manage them alone yet. If it weren't for the dogs, we'd have moved into a 3-bedroom apartment near here and sold our house there while we sorted out building the house.

Part of us moving is going to entail building a husky-proof kennel next to our house here before they ever leave there.

Oops; I'd forgotten that you are the one with the many dogs in the equation. Taking a few weekends for specifically Paingod things might still be good but your are right that the other ideas are out.

Better yet, get a new family. You can still keep the old one as backup.

Getting ready for a two week plus road trip to Oklahoma starting tomorrow. Eisenhower and his staff had nothing on me and my wife when it comes to planning and preparing a cross-channel invasion ah, cross-country trip. I'm a checklist kind of a guy while my wife relies on memory, but in the end we usually manage to get 99+% of everything we'll need packed. And if we miss something, there's always Walmart

I was going to start a separate thread to narrate the trip over the next couple of weeks but figured it might just depress folks who are still Covid restricted. If you want to hear more, just post here and ask me anything.

RP-1... nice reference . I used to work at Launch Complex 39 at the Kennedy Space Center. Early on I worked at the LH2 storage facility on the east side of pad 39A, which was right next to the old RP-1 storage facility, which was not used for Shuttle. I wandered around it out a few times, never imagining that it would be re-activated and used by Space-X.

The hardest part of any trip for me is the day before. I just want to get going. I've got most of my multiple checklists completed, paperwork set and my equipment staged. The weather outlook is continuing to be warmer than average, which is fine with us. Just please no more flash flooding as I've seen reported in the news

And no breakdowns.

One trip we had a major front brakes failure in North Florida. Luckily the tow truck driver AAA called knew somebody who owned a truck repair place that would stay open for us a small town in south Georgia, about 45 minutes from where we broke down. We had a hair-raising ride in the front seat of his tow truck as he zoomed through who knows where with our van dragging behind. He had a small CCTV monitor with a camera pointing back to the van, which swayed and swung alarmingly as he weaved through heaven knows what back roads. I kept expecting to suddenly see no van at all

We got to this small semi-tractor repair place and the owner had held over a couple of his workers and he said he could have it fixed in a couple of hours. He asked if we had eaten dinner, which we hadn't. He tossed me his truck keys and told me how to get to a nearby small town with places to eat. His truck was his work truck with an arc welder and all sorts of tools on it. I said I was concerned about going to some random restaurant and leaving his truck with all those tools parked outside. He said "Oh, everybody knows me and my truck" and sent us on our way. We did eat someplace where I could watch his truck! We got back and as they said it took about a couple of hours to resurface the front discs and replace the failed caliper and line.

Sounded there in the beginning like the start to a horror movie.
