Finished Trails of Cold Steel II. Liked it better than the first game as there was very little annoying school stuff to deal with. Stakes felt a bit higher, and my experience with the first game was a big help in my battle strategy so the combat was more fun. LIke the first game, I did have to "Weaken and Retry" a few of the bosses. But I don't feel too bad about it - some of the bosses require very specific quartz configurations to stand a good chance, and I'm trying to get through these without consulting a guide every five minutes.

I thought I'd be burned out on the series by now, but I found myself starting Trails of Cold Steel III this morning and enjoying it very much. It's taking a little getting used to as they overhauled the UI from the first two games, but I think once I get accustomed it's going to be a nice improvement.

Finished Trails in the Sky: The 3rd. Overall, the story was interesting, and I still like the large cast of characters (even the additions). I didn't like the general dungeon crawl format of the game compared to the more normal narrative style of the first two.

It's a good sign when I tempted to play the next one right away. But when I do that, I usually get bogged down in the middle stages of the next game, and end up enjoying it less. So since I'm at the end of the first trilogy, I think I'm going to move on to something else. Right now, it's a toss-up between Eiyuden - Hundred Heroes or Unicorn Overlord (which i just picked up on PS5 on sale). Also a smaller change I hit up a smaller scale RPG from the emulated library. An early Dragon Quest or FF.

That and MLB:the Show, since I ditched OOTP and it's Perfect Team stuff.

And who knows what I'll spend time on with summer vacation starting in a couple weeks. Should be fun.

After pretty much finishing up the current season in Diablo IV I needed another mindless PC game to mess around with, so I decided to jump back into World of Warcraft. I had planned to get the new expansion later this year anyway, and having skipped Dragonflight I figured this would give me an opportunity to play it before the new expansion.

Unfortunately I didn't have any characters high enough level to jump directly into Dragonflight, and didn't really want to use the instant-level 70 bonus since I haven't played in awhile and wanted to learn my class. And after messing around with a base character playing the same quests I played with my last toon, I found myself getting a bit bored - not a good position to be in when I just dropped $50 and a monthly fee.

Fortunately I decided to check out the Mists of Pandaria: Remix mode, and that wound up being the saving grace. It lets you play the Mists of Pandaria expansion content (which is another expansion I skipped back in the day), but leveling is increased and quest rewards/loot have been replaced with Remix-specific content to give you ways to buy powerful items and new mounts, etc. It works like a season mode in that the character is bound to the remix content for the duration of the season (ending mid-August), but after the season is over it converts to a regular character.

So it was kind of the best of all worlds. I still get to play my class up to level 70, but at an increased XP rate and experiencing content I had not experienced before. And that should get me in position to be able to jump right into the new expansion later this year. Also they enabled dragonflight for the remix content, so you can fly around and complete stuff even faster. It's been fun so far.

I finished another game that's not Witcher III, it's Creeper World 4!
I'm quickly running out of year to procrastinate.

I ended up wandering away from Eiyuden - Hundred Heroes and Unicorn Overlord which surprised me, because I expected to enjoy both more. Instead I played the PSP version of Final Fantasy II via emulator. This is the one that experimented with the no level/skill usage system. I thought it was going to be a major obstacle to the game reading the reactions to the system, but my concern was overblown. I was mostly overpowered throughout the game (in an enjoyable way) and only had to grind a little bit at the very end. After some cursory exploring, I skipped the bonus dungeons and don't think I'll miss them.

I've been incredibly distracted by Everquest II launching a "classic/origins" server. I jumped in about a month ago, right before it launched, and I remember those launch times fondly, so the nostalgia has been fun. I even hooked up with a guild and have done lots of group gaming. But I'm not sure how long that's going to last.

Next up RPG-wise: NOW I think I'm going to give Hundred Heroes a chance. Sports-wise, I started another career playthrough on Football: Tactics and Glory while I wait for the sequel to release at the end of the year. Also, I bought the College Football / Madden bundle on a drunken whim awhile back. And that releases in a week or two. So since I'm committed, and enjoyed NCAA 14, I'll be diving into that soon.

Speaking of RPGs, I tried out Octopath Traveler II on GamePass and now I'm hooked. I really liked the first game, but abandoned it about halfway through. I can't remember why. Having a lot of fun with it so far. I really like the combat system.

Played through Weird West. Interesting game.

Then went back and finished up XCOM 2: Long War of the Chosen. Apparently I'd stopped just before the final mission. At least now I have finished a LWotC playthrough. The last time I tried the game ended up being unable to continue due to memory issues and CTDs.

Finished Selaco. It's kind of like if Valve made Half-life using the Doom engine. Single player only so they put a lot of care in the set piece battles. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was my go-to game for the past few weeks. Completed in about 30 hours, although this is only Chapter 1. Chapters 2 and 3 are in development.

Super Mario Bros.

We were never a Nintendo family.

I did a warp speed-run last year. Tonight, I did a complete playthrough on the Switch. I did liberally use the rewind function, as I'm not out to impress anyone with my skills. And I had to look up the pathing for 7-4 and 8-4.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels

Again, no warps, plenty of rewinds and 'strategy guide' assistance for maze pathing.

I'm not going to beat the game 8 times to get to World A.

Picked up Unicorn Overlord for the Switch on a Nintendo sale (ends 11/1/2024). I am very impressed by the game's graphics and I like the real-time with pausing to give orders nature of the strategic gameplay (moving your units around on the map) combined with playing around with the tactics and formations of the units prior to battle. That's the interesting thing to me - that the player has no input at all during the battle, and it's all about how you arrange your peeps and their tactics prior to the battle that's important.

I'm still only just past the tutorial stage, but so far I'm liking this a lot!
