If it's a reputable manufacturer, it doesn't matter.

The price jump from a 4060 Ti to a 4070 is about on par with performance improvement, but of course I'm running an old main board with only PCIe 3 and an old cpu so the 4060 ti is already slowed down.

I could probably get away with a 4060 actually. Hard to figure best bang for buck when system parts are all over the place. Do I want to use this card for my next build? When will that be? Do I need 16 GB vram? Probably not. At least not today.

Edit: Yeah, seeing RTX 4060's for ~CAD$400. I think I was just being overly greedy because I always want the best for the least. In this case I can't even utilize the best mid-range card to it's full potential.

There is a HUGE difference in my peace of mind between $425 and $675.

edit2: Fuck me again. The 4060 is PCIe 4.0 *x8*. My board is PCIe 3.0 x16. How big an issue is this? Let's find out.

edit3: Doesn't matter. This is yet another bottleneck, but given all the other issues, this is basically a non-issue even if it sounds like a big one. In fact this is where the 5% max performance drop comes from. Dur.

Can anyone take a quick look at this link and let me know if you see any red flags? This particular card is supposed to be fairly quiet, but I don't know why the store page is so sparse. This is bestbuy canada.

Im using a 970 gtx..I very thankful to have it as a OOr gave it to me after an upgrade. It allows me to at least play most stuff. Not the newest of course and I always miss out on new things like ray tracing. But its works. My friend who was worse off then me just got a new system..i built it for him...and he put a rtx 4070 ti super in it. He sent me pics of a game we play...it was amazing how good it looked on his pc..the reflections on the helmet and armor and such..so cool.

Last I heard, that only applies to "Video game consoles, controllers, and physical video games" but not to PC components or electronics in general. It was an immediately forgotten bribe to encourage families to put gifts under the Christmas tree (and literally applies to Christmas trees for that reason).

Best buy definitely charged me tax, fyi.

Thanks for taking a look. I decided I didn't care (it was difficult to overcome my usual best for least shopping) and picked up something cheap. It didn't hurt that that particular card is supposed to be pretty quiet. Of course I'll soon learn it's quiet because the fans rarely turn on and the card runs incredibly hot. Or something.

I ordered it. It's a big improvement over what I've got (had) now, and it's on the low end of price while still doing ray tracing and DLSS.

I find I need to use the sku to do actual comparisons, because there are so many cards with the same chips, features, and manufacturing quirks, but one tiny detail hidden in the specs that differentiate them. It ca be difficult to compare apples to apples even if both apples are call granny smith. Somehow one is always an orange.

Is that a Best Buy promotion or something of the sort? The government is pretty clear about what the GST tax holiday covers, and Chromebooks don't seem to fall into any of the categories.

We were just as surprised. When we asked about it, they claimed the tax holiday. This was on top of a Boxing Week sale that is still going on until this Thursday.

Edit: Oops, my bad. You were right. She did end up paying 13%.

Usually 2 fans are louder than 3, but shorter than a 3 fan if you don’t have a large case.

Card arrived. Tracking didn't say it was out for delivery, so it sat on the front step for 5 hours. It's -13C. That's 8-9F for you south of the border. Letting it reach room temperature before installing. Removing old drivers and downloading new drivers while I wait.

Second monitor only has a dvi connector. Will look into dvi to hdmi/dport adapter or possibly running second monitor off integrated, if possible.

So far, card installed and running. Yay.

What did you end up getting? Was going to chime in and suggest a 3050 for an older rig.

RTX 4060. Only a little bottlenecking and it was about as cheap as I had seen and still be a gaming card. The Ti was too much I realized.

Almost all the 30xx series cards are over priced. I assume because of the larger memory bus.

My son's laptop has a 3070 ti and I am now extremely jealous.

Everything working well so far on both monitors. I was going to benchmark but I'm lazy and only really care that it is configured properly. It appears to be, so good enough.

4060 is a great card , should last you to your next rig as well and you can transfer it over when you want to upgrade your cpu and mainboard.

Ran free on steam resident evil 6 benchmark. It uses directx 9

It said things are good. So I've got that going for me.

It's always a nice feeling when youtube feeds you a video about pc parts to avoid in 2025 and the thumbnail has your new video card prominently displayed. It's even the same brand!

edit: oh. He's mad it doesn't have more than 8 GB vram. Fair enough. Another 8 GB would have increased the cost by 50% here in Canada. I did my best dude.
