Gosh there have been so many.
Sure BGE and Psychonauts. But also Ascendancy (well it was pretty anyhow with nice music), Realms of the Haunting (overall creepiness and beauty), Sanitarium, Lands of Lore, Anvil of Dawn....
When Might and Magic first came out there was nothing like it.
And Dungeonmaster.
And...and...and.
Your most artistic game ever?

Hmm. I like the mention of Sacrifice, but if were looking at the RTS realm, I'd look to Homeworld first. If you include all the background material in that wonderful manual, it's one of the most artistic and moving games I've played.
On the console side, I'm surprised no one mentioned The Mark of Kri. The original game provided a unique art style matched with equally unique game play. I thought the incorporation of the remote camera through the eyes of your avian spirit guide was a great touch. Besides you don't see many looks at Polynesian mythology.

Outcast used a voxel engine, I don't think it can be updated to Direct3D (that's what you meant right?)ChrisGrenard wrote:Hey, did they ever update that engine to directX (for Outcast?) I'd like to replay it sometime. I only got about 1/2 through the game.
Seriously though, I think playing just a few minutes of ICO should be required for this thread
Anyway, ICO is definitely a great artistic game, but, if I recall correctly, the starting bit doesn't even come close to showcasing the beauty of this game. It takes a little while before you get into the outside environment. ICO is also one of the few games that you can just watch somebody else play and not get bored. It's THAT beautiful.

Lots of great suggestions. One I have not seen mentioned that I might catch grief for is GTA VC. On a technical level the graphics are not impressive compared to other games from the same time perhaps, but the art direction accomplishes creating a city that has a fantastic convincing 80s feel. Other choices not suggested yet would be The Longest Journey, the ProPinball series and Giants to name a few. Edit I don't see Mafia listed either.

in recent memory, The Longest Journey
so many older games to go through.... Captain Blood should surely be mentioned.
lots of Psygnosis' games were fantastic in this regard. the Amiga was a showcase for interesting and visually intriguing games in the mid-late 80s/early 90s.
