I want to play again (and will happily send the other side to its doom!), but I probably can't for at least this week and maybe next. House hunting/selling is a lot harder/time consuming than I remember from the last time we did this. :?

Will start when enough people bug me that they want to start another game.

I think if you wait to start sign ups until the present game is over you will get players. We may even attract new blood due to the old stand bys being out. If you (Scoop) are not interested in running it I will run the mystery powers game (the next JLA idea where you know what powers are possibly in the game but not which ones actually are there).

My game isn't designed for newbies. Its Scoop 101! I will hold off on starting it until the proper time presents itself.

Remus, I would be greatful is you started your mystery powers game following Lassr's awesome BSG game.

I'd be interested in anything that gets started. Been reading the BSG thread and that looks like it's been fun and frustrating at the same time. Cylons goin' down early, but the remaining ones have managed to get non-cylons lynched and blown up. Fun for cylons. Frustrating for citizens who thought they had an easy win going.

If you are a newbie, just hope there aren't so much 'super-werewolf-player-vets' as they like the strategy of "Hey, a new guy! He must be evil!" and then you are dead.

We did not kill you first in your first games. That strategy has become something of a legend/myth lost in the mists of time and old threads.

as remus pointed out, that's more of a joke than anything else. if anything that dynamic is used as a means for a frame job.

semaj died cuz he looks evil and then another time he was evil while acting evil. If yer gonna play the faux-evil role, you'd better be able to handle the heat. That's true regardless of whether or not you are "new".

"playing for yourself" will get you killed because a loose cannon is a liability.

to elaborate... we let the new guys live a bit because we want more people to play. killing someone repeatedly "just because they are new" is a good way to strangle any interest from new players.

otoh, if a new guy walks around begging to be lynched then yeah they will get lynched. play conservative and you get a pass for a few days.

Just be lucky you don't have a reputation of a good guy who always seems to get a role. You die faster that way.

BTW, did I say I was sorry that I had potentially contributed to you being the choice for first kill last game?

I was pretty much screwed the second the randomiser picked the wolves. Not to say who those wolves are, since well any two people could screw me equally... But, needless to say, the fact they both pointed and laughed at me on the evil boards did nothing for my happiness levels.

Sigh... I've learned the best way to play is to forget you are playing for 2 weeks. Then post the following:

Been busy, dont have a chance to read it all, I'll do it later.

Had to work, just got back form work, now I have a (Engagement) to attend. I'll try to get to it in a few days.

Wow, so much has been said, I'm just a (something innocuous), dont worry about me guys.

and my personal favorite:

I agree with (Someone else way more vocal who will of course get lynched first if wrong), vote (suckers main person of hatred).

I could live the entire game that way....

but is it even really playing? What it does is take up a slot from someone who would post and play. It's causing me great irritation at the moment.

Yeah, I went through a time where I would only vote for the silent players the first few days regardless of other evidence. I am rapidly getting back to those days.

Well not to single out anyone, but why play a game and not participate. I really don't understand that mentality. The game is so much more fun when everyone is participating, even if it's just snarky comments with no particular purpose.

/shrug. all behaviors can be modified given the proper stimulus.

killing the mimes is always a wise course of action. it helps prevent the arrival of clowns.

you should realize that by adopting the silent approach you would merely be signaling yourself for extermination by the shifting winds of fate.
i.e. kill the silent is a tried and true method of day 1 and 2. it is obviously a method that will be used more often as the mime population grows.

thus lining up on death row in an attempt to get the better meals might not be the wisest course of action at this particular prison.

no. you get killed because you always look like you have an agenda that does not involve finding wolves. current perception is you are the twitchy guy standing in the corner... you are drenched in sweat and you can't stop blinking. the nervous muttering under your breath doesn't help things... ;)

plain and simple you are pressing buttons but you don't actually know what they do. thus you've had the bad luck of pressing the red button a few times in a row.

I used to do the same. Hell most of the time I randomly push any damn button I feel like just to see what will happen. maybe i die, maybe i don't. it's not like the only people I have to worry about are the one's holding ropes.

to put it another way.... someone accuses you of something... when you jump 8ft in the air and put your hands behind your back... folks get curious...

if you, otoh, react calmly...folks are in turn likely to react calmly to your actions.
if you react strongly... you had best have good b.s. story to back up your ire... in order to give your accuser a moment of pause.

the goal would be to make them doubt themselves, not you. Getting defensive is an excellent way to not do that. Defensive = guilty when no other evidence exists.

OK the problem here is perception.

You all have played a certain way for so long, you assume anyone who doesnt play that way must be hiding something or evil.

I have a phenominal example that I'll share later.

But the point is, just because I play a looser style of game doesnt make me twitchy, just because I like to press red buttons and see hwo people jump doesnt mean I dont know what I am doing. What usually happens is people dont say anything for fear of being a wolf. You all sit there saying as little as possible or running over scenarios trying to seem useful enough to keep around. Fact is, someone has to push the button to get the game underway. If it's lynching silents, then thats a great start, but usually someone says something you dont like, you ask em about it, they ignore it or they attack you and everyone assumes this is a great method of playing.

It's not the only way. Personally I am all for people fighting tooth and nail to live, kicking and screaming and trying to live through the night. I dunno about you, but name the last time someone went silently into that good night in real life?
"Well we can kill you or the guy next to you who probably has killed 4 people this week."
"Well the screw that rat bastard, I haven't done shit. Kill him to prove I'm the good guy!"

Me that makes way more sense than :"OK I'll die, but he dies next?"

Course maybe it's because I'm used to a different style of play...

it's a two way street. you misunderstand what the collective "we" is doing. and vice versa.

sometimes... one must be sacrificed to bring in the sharks. don't wanna be the bait? stop volunteering! ;)

besides yer mostly off the hook with respect to your behavior... aside from this last joke at your expense in order to frame remus... which obviously didn't work at all...

For myself, I've never thought the idea was to avoid being lynched. The idea is to make certain your side wins. If lynching me allows the village to expose some of the wolves then so be it. If lynching me means one of my wolf brothers gains some cover then so be it. One game where Grund was converted to our side night 1 he and I hatched a plan to have him "out" me and get me lynched in order to buy him time in game to identify the specials and get them killed.

Seemed like the perfect partner to me!
and if I had claimed to be Desmond before he did? I was going to claim I scanned him as Ben....preempting his outing of me. First come first trusted. Then, when you shoot him and never get to know what side he was on......

I coulda been great I tell you. Coulda been a legend.....well, a different type of legend.

would be the game where Scoop and I agreed to hate each for eternity. if ya feel like readin, I played most of the game right in everyone's face... woulda pulled it off if I hadn't botched every single behind the scenes move. talk about karma... perfect game while everyone's watching... but at night with privacy my facade crumbles... wtf...
I got about 1/10th of the way through the rules/Roles/stations/etc before I felt the need to shoot myself... :)
Some claim to be things they aren't.
Some claim things they don't deserve.
Some claim to know more than they ever will.
I don't claim anything, because no one would believe the truth anyways.

heh that's why I included the link. that page is generally where i started getting belligerent. point is "aggressive" can work but you gotta ruffle the right feathers.

there are examples where aggressive got me immediately lynched.... so it's a nuance that took some time for me to hone :P
