I misread. Under the Neutral programs, there was something that said if the game ended and a program is in the neutral state. I got my "programs" confused that thought that was referencing the game rather than the players.

Nothing to see here, move along.

More questions though:
  • When a player joins a team, is the Team "Captain" (Flynn/MCP/Thorne) given a count on their side? Not the names of the players, just how many are working for them? I ask because I could see one strategy being to join MCP to scan faster and get stuff, then go back to Users to actually win and save a backup of yourself.
  • If you scan a sector and are not awarded the program code, are you still made aware that it existed there?
  • Does each sector have one piece of code, or do some sectors have multiple pieces?

That is a viable strategy for an unnamed program to take. I tried to create small limitations that made the choice of switching teams a strategic one. If you have an idea for a limitation for the Users I'd be willing to hear it. However, I am worried about providing too much information about how many players are on a team. I did consider having a message posted by the moderator at the beginning of each uptime stating how many players are on each team but I think that might give way to much information away in small groups. Right now nothing is revealed based on the teams.
  • If you scan a sector and are not awarded the program code, are you still made aware that it existed there? Programs will simply recieve a result that they didn't find anything. Too much book keeping otherwise for me.
  • Does each sector have one piece of code, or do some sectors have multiple pieces? Sectors can be empty or have several pieces of code. It is going to be very random. Permissions bits will be spread more evenly.

I like the limitations you have for joining each group. I'd have to think about Users a bit.

My thought was not telling everyone the teams, only the Captains (Flynn/MCP/Thorne). This gives the role a little more juice and lets them have something to talk about with their pings (otherwise I'm not really sure why they'd ever use them). So at Uptime Loop 1, the MCP knows he has 3 and on Uptime Loop 3 he learns he has none - he probably suspects they went to the Users.

Also it gives each side a time frame on when they can win. In that example, the MCP knows those 3 are with him on Uptime Loop 2 no matter what since they can't switch again that fast. Again - he doesn't have names, but he does have 3 who hope the other side doesn't win that Iteration.

Hmmm - and while thinking about this - maybe Thorne shouldn't know anything. Knowing how many are infected might be too strong? But the MCP and User knowledge will always be questionable because that don't know who is infected.

[*]Does each sector have one piece of code, or do some sectors have multiple pieces? Sectors can be empty or have several pieces of code. It is going to be very random. Permissions bits will be spread more evenly.[/list]

Why make that one even? Why not just make them all completely random and see how it goes?

Ok, I like the idea. I will update it where both Flynn and the MCP will be informed of their total team count (including named programs). Thorne will not be given a count. Also, one thing to think about. Just because a player joins the Corruption team doesn't mean he is automatically infected.

But in the end, an unnamed program can't win unless he is on the winning team. Also, I expect it to be very difficult for the MPC to stamp out the corruption for his winning condition without alot of help from unnamed programs and I expect he is going to want to leave as many of the unnamed programs alive as long as he can to prevent the possible Corruption victory condition being met.

The game has changed and the only way to win is to survive...

Image

Some have asked, has the System always been this way? When did the System first come on-line? Was it created by a User like the stories we hear about Flynn?

If Flynn was the User and created the System, created EVERYTHING, then where is he now?

The MCP tells us that the System was made perfect by him and that Users would only destroy the System if given access to it. The MCP maintains order for us and in doing so has created the perfect system. Gridbugs no longer menace us and every program has access necessary to perform his function. Power is distributed efficiently and the game grid provides entertainment. However, with the order the MCP brings also comes restrictions. No program has had access from outside the system in cycles so long ago that now one remembers. Perhaps the MCP even deleted these memories? Who can tell.

Some believe in the MCP and support his vision of a perfect System. To disagree is to be sent to the games grid where a program fights for and eventually loses his life.

Some whisper about the Users and Flynn. They whisper about how Flynn created the System and everything in it including the MCP and they whisper that Flynn will return to free the System and open it up to the outside again. Access to new data. Just think of it. Of course, those programs who whisper such things also quickly get recruited to fight and die on the game grid.

Some wish for greater freedoms than even promised by the Users. Some wish to see the System remade into something new where corruption reigns. To wish for this is madness but for some madness would be better than control by the MCP or Users.

===========================================

All unnamed programs in this game have a choice.

Which side will they choose to fight for?

Will you fight for the Users and a free, uncontrolled, inefficient and sometimes buggy system?

Will you fight for the control and efficiency that the MCP brings? Order and safety?

Will you fight to spread the corruption? Better to be on the winning side of something new and dangerous then to be derezzed, right?

Programs, the choice is yours.

===========================================

The game will begin with Downtime 0.

Downtime Boilerplate:
All orders must be in before the hard deadline, or forfeit;
Downtime deadlines are normally 24 hours unless this occurs on a weekend where more time may be granted;

The Hard Deadline for orders will be posted once all role PMs have been picked up. In the meantime, if you have orders please PM to the mod as soon as possible.

All Programs: Select a sector (1 thru 64) to search. (Search Sector ??)
All Programs: Do you wish to run code?
All Programs: Do you wish to login to a team?
Flynn: Will you use your back up and if so on who?
Quorra: Who will you use your anti-virus program on?
Thorpe: Who will you infect?
Daft Punk - Guy-Manuel: If already corrupted, who will you infect?
Daft Punk - Thomas: If already corrupted, who will you infect?

"Cool" is not the word I would use to describe it. ;) Maybe the Kalahari at night. But yeah, we will be in a bustling village with 30,000 people.

MOD NOTES: Small rulez correction that I missed and has now been corrected. Changes are in bold red.

Quorra:
Image
Quorra is the last surviving ISO. Isomorphic Algorithms (better known as ISOs) are a race of programs that spontaneously evolved on the Grid, as opposed to being created by users. Their existence is considered a miracle by Kevin Flynn, however the MPC considers them to be an obstruction and has hunted them to the brink of extinction. ISOs have a natural affinity to the Grid and are able to remove corruption. Flynn has kept Quorra's existence a secret in order to protect her and what will happen to the Grid if she is derezzed.

Last ISO : If Quorra is derezzed or terminated part of the Grid will derezzed with her. One quarter of all programs will randomly be derezzed instantly. Only Flynn as a User-Program is immune. ;

Anti-Virus : Quorra is able to use her natural "Anti-Virus" ability each Downtime.

I thought about this as well. Because of how the sector results are determined, I think it is better to say what Sector you searched in the morning. Otherwise, with MCP's side getting extra searches, they could make sure we never get a clean search and significantly increase their chances of getting code.
