I see that Alien: Isolation is on sale at 75% off on the Steam Summer Sale and while I normally stay away from this genre, Isolation is supposedly one of the better games. Now I'm wondering, do I bother with the Season Pass? And what's the difference between the Season Pass, which is $7.49, versus getting all the DLC, which is $11.93? Is it just because of the discount you get by getting the Season Pass, or does the Season Pass not include all the DLC? Don't mean to make someone do all the grunt work I could do to find this out, just wondering if someone knows off the top of their head.
Also, is all that DLC really worth it? I've been burned before by Season Pass content that seemed to be churned out just to satisfy the requirement of having Season Pass content. Thanks for any help!
If you liked the first Alien movie, there is a good chance you'll like this.
I didn't buy any of the DLC and don't plan to. Doesn't look interesting.
This is also a game that I normally wouldn't bother with, but at this price it's hard to resist. Plus I've refunded so many games in the last couple of weeks I feel I really ought to buy something.
I spent 90% of the money I made on women, booze, and drugs. The other 10% I just pissed away.
I reread my old comments in this thread, and my opinion hasn't changed: this is a really compelling realization of the Alien universe. The atmosphere is excellent. While the mechanics are less perfect, they serve very well to support the feeling of being hunted.
The DLC adds some new wrinkles but nothing comparable to the main campaign. Definitely buy the base game.
Also, it does take a while to open up. Don't give up if you think it's on rails early on. Later it's much more open.
Steam says I've played 107 minutes. My nerves say I've been in that damn station for days .
Awesome, awesome atmosphere and sound. Great immersive attention to detail, every little corner and panel looks like it belongs on a space station like the Sevastopol. Too bad these games give me the heebie-geebies.

I bought Alien: Isolation a while ago and put in a few hours. But I got a little frustrated with human opponents in the game, so I took a break. I should go back and finish the damn thing though. It really does capture the feel of the movie quite well.

I got very frustrated after about two hours of playing. I was at the lobby of the security center, the one with the rocket engine hanging from overhead (very cool by the way). This is where four people show up and hunt you. I kept getting caught so I searched the web and found some Walkthroughs which told me how to get through stealthily. Didn't work for me. After a dozen tries I finally just decided to bash heads, which works for me. Now, where's that damn Alien?

I did almost give up there, but I finally figured out that you can melee them successfully. You use that big heavy tool you picked up earlier, which apparently is automatically selected if you melee (RT using an X360 controller like I do). Just wait for them to get separated and ambush them, just try to do it so the others don't have line of sight on you if possible. Do remember to search them for goodies, but you can't get their guns . And prepare a couple of medikits for fast healing.

Yeah, I'm not much beyond that part... and it was a little frustrating. I did eventually manage to make it through with stealth though and It was a very close call though. It was hard work but the pay off was worth it.
That's the first hard part, I think. It's easier to stealth it by going left and making your way up the stairs, then back around above where you entered.
If you leave those people alive, eventually they'll have an interesting encounter of their own...
There is one part so far which is far more annoying than that. I love the game, but damn is it tough. If you want to know what it is, look in the spoiler. Hint, it involves the alien on the medical level. Oops, sorry if I spoiled that there is an alien monster in the game...
Spoiler:
The part that made me mad and quit a number of times is the bit where you are stuck in a small section of the level, basically a circle, with the damn alien stomping around constantly. I really do wish they had made the alien give up after a while, and maybe come back later. It got very frustrating trying to sneak around in a circle while avoiding the seemingly random stomping of the stupid thing. It really did almost ruin the game for me, because there was just too much of the alien.

Yeah, I'm beginning to feel this way. I did get past the medical level, but only by abandoning my normal search of each room for resources. On the next "level" I've now been killed twice by the alien, in spite of just having traveled quite a distance by elevator and gone through a maze of paths. I've almost gotten my $1/hour of entertainment from the game and I don't know that I have the energy to grind all the way through it.
By the way, I'm playing on the easiest difficulty level, which evidently doesn't make the creature search for you any less. I'd love it if there was an option so that once you went into hiding, the creature would wander off to chase any one of the umpteen other folks on the station. Would be a great mod...

This was my first Steam return. Maybe because I was playing on PC, it just had that console port feel that I hate. Totally on rails and not being able to save anywhere are game killers for me these days. I also don't like horror themed games either, so it just wasn't for me.
Hmm, watching people playing this with an Oculus Rift is entertaining
I forgot to call it "a box of pure malevolent evil, a purveyor of
insidious insanity, an eldritch manifestation that would make Bill
Gates let out a low whistle of admiration," but it's all those, too.

It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since we embarked on our journey with the release of ALIEN: ISOLATION.
When we started developing ALIEN: ISOLATION, we had one guiding principle: to create a truly authentic experience that went back to the roots of the ALIEN franchise - a new story capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 movie masterpiece.
It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world. Your boundless enthusiasm, excitement, screams (!) and steely courage in the face of cinema’s greatest killer, have been profoundly rewarding.
Whether you’re a nightmare mode veteran or stepping into Amanda Ripley’s shoes for that thrilling first attempt (good luck!), we wanted to express our deep gratitude. It was a dream project brought to life by a brilliant team, and the reception you have given it over the years is extraordinary.
On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear.
Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.
