Looks like a mashup of Castaway and I Am Legend (with a soupçon of Twister).

I think the headline for a review I saw for their new sci fi show Invasion sums it up nicely: Invasion Made Me Root for the Aliens.
It’s not good.

Loved the 2005 one. Wish they wouldn't reuse names.

I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it either. It did nothing for me, really.RunningMn9 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 11:02 pmI saw the first episode, I didn’t hate it.hepcat wrote:I think the headline for a review I saw for their new sci fi show Invasion sums it up nicely: Invasion Made Me Root for the Aliens.

I felt like watching the next episode. We'll see. It did feel like the episode was like 2 hours long though.

It's kind of a strange show. Almost every character is unlikable. The kids and the Japanese Comm Lady are probably the only ones I like. But they seem to want to spend an inordinate amount of time following these unlikable people, so hopefully there is some payoff for that. But yeah, otherwise I may be rooting for the aliens soon.RunningMn9 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 3:48 pmI felt like watching the next episode. We'll see. Re: [Streaming] Apple TV Plus
Wife and I watched the first 8 episodes of the show Severance last week (final 9th episode is Friday). It's about a big company that has a surgical procedure that allows employees to choose to separate their work life from their home life. The person at work (the "Innie") only has memories of showing up each day in the morning and leaving each day in the evening. The person at home (the "Outie") has no idea what happens at work.
To start with, this show is great. It touches on a lot of different points, including grief (most employees who choose severance are dealing with something in their life that they just want to forget), company overreach, and what exactly does it mean to be a person (do the Innies have any actual rights other than what is granted for them by the company?).
But it is also weird in ways I was not expecting. The premise itself implies a show that has to be weird, but it takes that and runs with it and is wonderfully weird in compelling ways. Imagine if the tv shows Legion and Devs had a baby. And that baby was John Turturro.
I'm dying to see the season finale.

I think I may need to resubscribe to Apple Plus for a month so I can watch Severance. I keep hearing its praises being sung by a LOT of people.

Binge watched the 1st six episodes of Severance and will likely finish up season 1 soon. Very much feels like a really good Black Mirror episode expanded into a series. All the actors are killing it.

Re: [Streaming] Apple TV Plus
The entire cast is amazing, but good lord does this show belong to Patricia Arquette and John Turturro or what. They're just astounding in this show.

Re: [Streaming] Apple TV Plus
Severance is such a wonderful show. I'm two episodes in. Seems like it would appeal to anyone who likes dystopian corporate mindfuck stuff. Mr. Robot, Being John Malkovich, Nope, Portal.... And a million other things. But fresh. Or at least, appropriate to this era. Man, they make Adam Scott look like shit. Like, it's amazing.
Who knew Ben Stiller could put out something good.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Yeah, Severance is a show I’ll probably re-watch right before the start of the second season instead of a season 1 recap. It was a great ending and I want to roll right into the new season.

Re: [Streaming] Apple TV Plus
Watching the first episode of Shrinking. Great set-up. Stale, but interesting premise. Occasionally funny. Great to see Harrison Ford in a supporting roll. He's a real Clint Eastwood in terms of longevity.
But... it's horrible. It's the same self-indulgent, overly self-aware, "clever" fantasy of the emotionally wounded, middle-aged, comfortably wealthy, bored, white American man. The patient characters are poorly written and make light of mental illness stereotypes. And I'm sure many therapists struggle with similar experiences. Honestly, 90% of the main character's struggle is universal across all jobs involving face-to-face contact. But I think the notion that a tells-it-like-it-is angry man instantly fixes his patents' lives by being a huge asshole is an insult to the profession.

Currently watching, and really enjoying, Ted Lasso Season 3. If you haven't seen it yet, highly recommended.

I felt the first 2 eps were not up to par with previous seasons, but the latest episode is pretty much back to form.EvilHomer3k wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 4:48 pm Currently watching, and really enjoying, Ted Lasso Season 3. If you haven't seen it yet, highly recommended.

One of the best shows on AppleTV+ is Slow Horses. If anyone hasn't seen it, I highly recommend it. The seasons are short, like 6 episodes, but the stories are perfectly paced and they are shooting two seasons back to back each time, so they've already got the material needed for 4 seasons.

Zarathud: The sad thing is that Barak Obama is a very intelligent and articulate person, even when you disagree with his views it's clear that he's very thoughtful. I would have loved to see Obama in a real debate.
Me: Wait 12 years, when he runs for president. :-)

Re: [Streaming] Apple TV Plus
Wife and I finished watching Silo last week. It's based on a book series which I haven't read. We watched the first episode and then binged the rest. Normally we watch just one hour of TV a day and sometimes not that much. One night we watched 3 episodes. We quite enjoyed it. It was well acted and the story was intriguing. The main character was interesting as were the other characters. Overall I'd give it 6 out of 8 tentacles. Very good but not great. If you haven't seen it and enjoy sci-fi dystopian future type stuff I recommend it.
And there's a Silo thread here. Thanks, Coopasonic.

Re: [Streaming] Apple TV Plus
Finished Ted Lasso Season 3 and I have to say I’ve rarely seen a show go from such great heights to absolute crap.
I have no words. Maybe the writers were all different? No idea, but they took an amazing, funny, unique IMO show and just destroyed its legacy completely with the final season. Wow.

Aren’t you the guy that thinks Charles McGill is a hero figure?
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range
