Part of my problem is that reaching rank 20 is almost a no-brainer now, baring bad luck. The map is big enough and if you are ok with an AR with a red dot/holographic scope, then you can hang out where no one else is likely to be. And you can do this for multiple circle contractions. Getting to #10 without being seen is tougher, but still totally doable. Just examine the map and head to the side of the circle where you figure the least people will be coming in from. If the circle is anywhere near the coast, getting on that side of the circle seems like a no -brainer. Hop on a vehicle and drive there asap. Even when spotted and shot at, it's rare that I get killed in a vehicle. I mean, it happens, but you can be killed while sitting in a tub on the second story of a house in the middle of no where, so...yeah.

I guess I don't have the patience for sneaking around, because I don't sneak around any more. I just don't find it very fun. A lot of that is spending tons of time in previous games sneaking around only to have my entire section of the map be devoid of people. It's like hiding from a boogey man that doesn't exist. Sure he exists sometimes, but that's like 1 in 5, 1 in 10 games, depending on where you choose to drop.

I'd much rather drop in an area with 2 or 3 other people and get the early brawl out of the way first, THEN it feels like my life is worth something and I'm more cautious.

I'm going to take a look at the loot map, and maybe drop in more heavily populated areas. I'm pretty sick of reaching the top 20 without a scope. They are just too rare in the areas I choose to drop. And by sick, I just mean, it plays out exactly the same every time.

Coop is right, this isn't a combat game, it's a game of survival. Whether that's hiding out in a hard to reach spot, or killing everyone that is in your LoS, staying alive is how you win.

They need to put in some more cosmetic items too. I've only opened 2 crates, but looking at the items in them...not exciting.

Oops. I uploaded a video to my personal account instead of GG's. Fixing now. Nothing too exciting. If you watch it, I spray with my UZI to assure the dude I'm upstairs, not to hit him. I don't want any smartasses criticizing my stairs shooting ability. :D

Yup. I see no point in the 'crates'. I've opened two. I got a bright blue shirt that I'd be caught dead wearing, and a black shirt that is my new standard... but these things are things I see all over the floor as I loot. Nothing worth actually having.

Crates are awesome. I love selling them on the marketplace; I think they're still selling for 50-70 cents a pop. Overall I've probably gotten at least $10 of my money back from playing PUBG.

I've opened a ton of them from playing too much this last week or so and don't see the point. I'm also very lazy and likely not to go out of my way to try and sell it. The fact that anyone would pay money for any of these pointless items hurts my head. I only see people in the game long enough to kill them or be killed by them. I don't care if they have a purple jacket. :P

FWIW, the different clothing items do come with some added carrying capacity, so there's a gameplay benefit to having most/all of your clothing slots filled. Even then it's not worth opening crates, instead just sell a few and then use that money to buy exactly the clothing items you want off the market.

4th place, 2 kills.

Everything went my way..last two circles shrunk into where I already was.

Final circle and just couldn't see the guy that saw me.

Last night was worse than the night before, but I dropped a lot more into denser areas. In cities, I was discovering Level 3 Armor, Helmets, and Backpacks lying on the floor. Rare, but still there. It's also the first time I discovered an AR Suppressor in the wild. My K/D ratio took a nosedive by 0.11 points for all of my floundering.

Kill of the Night
There was only one. Just some poor guy I caught from behind as he was trying to loot a building next to the one I had just cleaned out. There wasn't anything special about it. I saw him run in at a distance and detoured to go surprise him. As I closed in, I watched him move through the house past windows, and finally caught up with him as he was coming back down to leave. I don't think he was expecting to find someone hiding in a room he had cleared seconds before.

Death of the Night
I ran into my old self from two days ago. As I cleared a house that was closed up, I opened an upstairs door and was met to a double-barrel blast to the face. My function this round was to provide that player with a nice M16A4 with a Suppressor and 2x Scope, AKM, Level 3 Backpack, and Level 2 Armor/Helmet. I swear I should have known better, too - I had heard gunfire that was approximately in the location of that building, but forged on ahead recklessly anyway as time was short and I was hunting for healing items.

Best Rank
6th place. I made it here with a Level 3 Helmet, Armor, and Backpack - all looted from buildings - but could NOT find an Assault Rifle or Sniper Rifle. I was left with a UMP9 with 270 rounds and a 4x Scope. In my backpack, I had everything for an awesome AR - Suppressor, 8x Scope, Red Dot Scope, Quick/Ext Mag, Grip, and Shoulder Rest... but no gun. I repeatedly got the drop on people at range, but seemed to lack the long-range firepower to finish the job.

Best Fight
As I was moving across the map to get ahead of the blue death's first shrinkage, I opted to stop at the School. It was late enough that the initial flurry had died down and I hoped to snag something useful from corpses or forgotten rooms. It paid off in a couple good healing items that were missed, a larger backpack, and an AR. There was, however, still a player there who had staked it out as his own. I surprised him from across the courtyard with a double-tap and we exchanged fire for a little while. I opted to try and flank, and so did he - we met again on the 2nd floor, passing grenades and SMG fire. I opted to try and flank him again from the roof. So did he. We exchanged fire again up there. Each time I had to use more of that precious healing I had found until I was almost out. In the end, I heard him coming up a stairwell but abandoned the fight to run from the encroaching wall. I left him with a parting gift of a Stun Grenade; I don't know if it hit or not. When I had gotten safely away, I scanned back for some time and never saw him give chase or leave the school. I like to think he died there, searching for me futilely.

I think I got 4th place last night. Yes, "think." I have played so many rounds now I can't keep them straight. I was killed by the blue death because I was too slow to advance.

I started work on a tactical death reel last night when the servers were down. It will take some time to put it all together and trim the excess footage. Maybe this weekend.

Yeah, I figured. I think you could actually do something like that with the youtube tools even. Let us know when it's done, I look forward to seeing it. I have at least 1/2 of my deaths on video still, for no apparent reason except hoarding behaviour.

Windows News
Microsoft is introducing a new Windows 10 app today that has been missing since the operating system's launch nearly two years ago: Story Remix. It’s essentially Windows Movie Maker on steroids.
...
Story Remix works in the cloud by collating images and video you use from any device. That means there will be a Story Remix app for iOS, Android, and Windows so you can grab content from multiple devices and work on your video. It’s similar to Apple’s new Clips app, but a lot more customizable and powerful. If you start a story on an iPhone, you can resume its creation on a Windows 10 PC and vice versa.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I wasn't too slow in my 6th place finish last night - I was caught in a gun battle - and instead of trying to desperately crawl 15m forward and likely give the guy a clear shot at me and score a kill, I opted to give him the finger and die out of zone.

#22. Long range fire that really could have used some zero'ing. Zero hits. 60 seconds after that I take long range fire from an sks. Couldn't place the fire. The shots were echoing off the hill I was on and disoriented me in terms of where the original shot was coming from.

I didn't mind that death, mostly because I got to shoot at someone else earlier.

Also a #77 where I lost a UMP9 duel where I landed with about 7 others on the edge of town.

Current game, I know I can get to at least #25 by not moving. At all. Just hiding out, alt-tabbling and writing this post.

#14. Died waiting too long to heal while racing behind the circle. Had a guy to my right running along a ridge but I couldn't do anything about it because, you know, circle. I was worried he'd find a spot inside the circle and then turn on me.

Ah well. Another second or so and I would have been healed to 75% and kept running.

I find my best finishes are by being low-key, but I frequently feel it's worth it to hijack a car/buggy/bike and run it to the middle of the safe zone so I've got a good head start on the next two zone crunches. I swerve and weave as I go, then when I get in a good place I slam the brakes, spin the car around, get out, and run 50m in another direction. I'd probably get gunned down if I tried to run that far, and I think that using a car just to get to a safe place and then running off to additional safety is worthwhile.

Headshot with m16 at 206m. :) I got second again. I thought I had it. Last guy jumped up right in front of me and I start shooting him and then bang headshot dead. He could have had more than 1-2 hits to die. Oh well.

Stun grenade fail.

Had the hospital to myself, well decked out. Dude arrives on a jeep.

I camp out on the roof, using 3rd person view to watch the stairs. Well he runs up faster than I expected, I toss stun, miss completely, bounces off wall. No where to run, stun self, get ump9'd to death, never having fired a shot.

Well, the theory was good. I was actually planning on macheting him to death.

Good luck little dude. I'll figure out grenades yet. The truth is I was not expecting him to climb 2 sets of stairs so fast and the prep time for a grenade, even when you have it equipped, messed me a bit. I had to take cover while trying to throw.

I uploaded it for everyone's enjoyment if you feel like it. Should be up in 30 minutes or less. Not very exciting. 20 seconds of me staring at a stairwell, 5 seconds of me moving to cover and another 5 seconds of me being stunned while shot to death.

Should be on in a few minutes.

edit: The video of Red and Oct fighting on the hillside should be up in about an hour or so. It starts when you hear the vehicle, so if I remember correctly there is a bit of dead time from then to the actual fighting but I put up about 4 minutes worth anyway.

I cut out the motorcycle and crate looting, plus there was a lot of looking for targets on the hill but nothing pans out until the vehicle shows up.

Coopasonic, I'm sorry I doubted you. I pulled off just this very thing, and exactly as wonderpug described. Can't even say I pulled it off, someone else pulled it off for me. Thanks. :)

On this map, I dropped into Georgopol, on top of an apartment building. For the first two circle closures, I was safe. I spent time cautiously looting three entire apartment buildings without seeing another soul. Gunfire was intense all around me at first, but it petered off to nothing before I had to leave town. I left with Level 2 Armor, Level 1 Helm, Level 2 Backpack, an AKM, and an M164A. I had almost no mods - just a red dot and 2x scope and extended clips. With each successive zone crunch, I was able to prone-crawl my way to the safe zone, and spent the entire next minute crawling towards the middle of that zone so I could crawl to the middle of the next one. Gunfights played out all around me in the distance, but no one was shooting at me. At the very end, I noticed someone next to a rock and pinked him once. He, in turn, managed to kill the other person as the zone wall got him.

I have to ask - is it possible to literally scatter over the map with the right gliding techniques, or are these people cheating? The plane was going well away from the Prison - like from the western edge of the Military compound towards Gatka - no one would be able to get there by chute, I thought. I launched early and grabbed a buggy and hauled ass in as clean a straight line as I could without flipping the thing. On the way, I caught someone in the middle of nowhere running naked across a field. I have no idea how he got there - he was well off the flight path - and I ran him over. As I came up on the bunker, I started to worry that I might not be the only one going to the prison and decided to stop and arm myself with anything I could find. It turns out that just 20 steps behind me, someone with a pistol was running for the same entrance. How the f##k did these guys get here on foot when I drove the buggy at break-neck speeds across kilometers of terrain and was in the first cluster of 30 people who jumped?!

Good times last night.

Watched the video of the hilltop fight--I don't know how the guys in the red car weren't all dead..maybe they were and Octavious got the kills (which is fine) but at the end of that round I had no kills..wild.

Seems like both times that we had pretty good runs last night we were ultimately done in by 3rd parties walking up on our firefights with someone else.

And I don't know how guys weren't just disintegrating when Octavious shot them with that rail gun (AWM) he found. Must have been satisfying popping guys with that because it was fun to hear it go off :)

I played another 2 rounds. I have played a crazy amount in the last 2 weeks. I haven't spent this much time in a game in probably 10 years. It's like digital crack for me. JUST NEED ONE MORE ROUND!

Oh and if you find a mini-14. Take it, love it, give it a ring. I hadn't tried it until late last night and I was just mowing people down. With a 4x scope it's a murder machine. If I get one of those with a silencer I will be in heaven.
Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.
