There are all sorts of things that could be done, but I don't see this administration doing them.

If we run out of doctors and nurses, we can get the ones that play them on TV. That should be enough for at least a dozen hospitals.Isgrimnur wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 10:45 pmBut who’s going to staff them, kid? Article via Politico.Neither the CDC nor the coronavirus task force chaired by Pence would say who made the decision to forgo the WHO test that so many other countries accepted and used.
It will eventually come out.
Methinks that congressional hearings will be coming and subpoenas issued to all.Smoove_B wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 11:25 pm https://twitter.com/HeidiNBC/status/1237158783027159048

Now, this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this, because a lot of people will have this, and it's very mild. They will get better very rapidly. They don't even see a doctor.Daehawk wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 11:55 pm They say there are 500 known cases. My feeling is there are over 3000 unknown already.

Pence then closed the meeting with a prayer for all of those affected before attending debriefing with the President in preparation for his meeting with top WallStreet executives. (If it's not obvious that I'm making that up, well, I'm making it up. It's getting harder and harder to find that perfect edge between cynicism and what's really going on)Smoove_B wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 11:25 pm https://twitter.com/HeidiNBC/status/1237158783027159048

Everything you need to know about the Chinese coronavirus can be found on one, regularly-updated website:
Honestly never would have occurred to me that was a joke. That's 100% on brand for Pence.LordMortis wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:08 am Pence then closed the meeting with a prayer for all of those affected before attending debriefing with the President in preparation for his meeting with top WallStreet executives. I don't think he's stupid enough to sell that message when the market is still only 80% of what it was a few weeks ago, making it down year over year and down year over year before that. Though, as usual. I have no finger on the pulse of Trump nor why stupid messaging still succeeds.$iljanus wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 9:58 am Dow is going up which to Trump is probably mission accomplished since the stock market is his barometer for all things. Can't wait to hear the circle jerkers praising him for his decisive leadership from the back nine.

As long as that smoking crater is whites only, I'm guessing most Trump supporters are good with it.Octavious wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 10:52 am Only like +300 now, but ya I have no idea why anyone would react to the nonsense he spouts. President Trump confirms our scoop from last week that the White House is looking at special federal relief for the hotel, cruise, and airline industries amid the coronavirus downturn
Not that I'm wild about siding with the Trump administration if they do impose restrictions that impinge on civil liberties, but isn't restriction of movement and association (although Constitutionally-nightmarish) one of the ways to fight Corona and reduce potential deaths?El Guapo wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:28 am I will say, while obviously the administration's response to the coronavirus has been woefully deficient, I do at least feel grateful that Trump doesn't seem to have discovered the civil liberties restrictions that he could plausibly impose in connection with an epidemic.
It is. And it may well be justifiable or even necessary. But god, can you imagine how Trump would use and abuse that authority?Dogstar wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:03 pmNot that I'm wild about siding with the Trump administration if they do impose restrictions that impinge on civil liberties, but isn't restriction of movement and association (although Constitutionally-nightmarish) one of the ways to fight Corona and reduce potential deaths?El Guapo wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:28 am I will say, while obviously the administration's response to the coronavirus has been woefully deficient, I do at least feel grateful that Trump doesn't seem to have discovered the civil liberties restrictions that he could plausibly impose in connection with an epidemic.
It's kind of funny/scary how often our boys seem to be hospitalized at the same time. Saw in the other thread that you're hoping to be released soon. We're hoping for Thursday, which puts us at around 16 days total. You win this time, Naednek! (At least I hope we go home then and you win for longer stay!)naednek wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 5:40 pmLooks like we're in the same boat.. Day 18 here. I'll probably get this thing and it probably won't make me very sick. Probably.

Carnival is headquartered in Florida. It's not a foreign line. Its corporate parent is also headquartered in he US, though it does have a lot of foreign lines too.stessier wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:36 am There aren't any US cruise lines, are there? The optics of bailing out foreign cruise lines while farmers continue to suffer depressed prices due to China are interesting.
Washington state Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R) says her constituents aren't getting coronavirus test results for days after being tested.
CDC Director Redfield responds that there is "not enough equipment, not enough people, not enough internal capacity."
Fuck, almost better to send the samples to South Korea at this point. The difference in response between the US and South Korea is embarrassing and instructive for the future.Smoove_B wrote:By the way, it's been almost a week since NJ sent our first set of presumptive positive cases for the CDC to verify and we've yet to hear back. It has 26 vessels and is the largest fleet in the Carnival group.[3] The ships fly flags of convenience: 18 of the ships fly the Panama flag, six that of the Bahamas and two that of Malta.
I'm not wild about it by any means. For what it's worth, I think Trump will try to defer to the states rather than issuing such an order.El Guapo wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 12:04 pm It is. Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), also known in short as Norwegian, is a cruise line founded in 1966 and based in the United States.
...
As of December 2019, Norwegian Cruise Line operates 17 cruise ships, with six on order. It has also previously owned or operated 19 other ships. All its ships are flagged to the Bahamas, except for the Pride of America, which operates cruises within the United States and is flagged and registered in the US, as well as being owned by a US-registered subsidiary, NCL America.

Asked if he's been briefed that up to 100M could ultimately be exposed, Trump: "I've been briefed on every contingency you could possibly imagine. Many contingencies. A lot of positive. Different numbers, all different numbers, very large numbers, and some small numbers too."
