I get the theory, but given the amount of mockery he's been subjected to from all quarters, the number of prominent Republicans that refuse to support him and his historic negatives, I don't think it's going to work for him.

My reading of that quote there was he was talking about Drumpf comments - not his own views...but it might be...very confusing, confusing sentence tbh.

The whole quote:
