Canned pears are the worst. They never have any flavor but they make up for that with an unpleasant gritty texture.

Got stuck behind a slow poke on the way home. 15 miles. It was a 55 mph back road and they managed to do almost 45 down hill and a paltry 35 up hill. I was right behind them and no way to pass. Looking behind me there were at least 15 other cars wondering who the hell cant find the gas pedal. People like this should pull over sometimes and let people go on.

I swear he could have been driving Dennis Weaver's car from Duel.

Christopher Walken on how t oact like Christopher Walken.
Of a cat’s tail, right? Yes, of a cat walking away. Which is interesting, but dubious. Sometimes when I see a question mark in a script, I’ll deliberately make it a statement. Or if something has an exclamation point, I’ll make it a question just to see what will happen. Punctuation can be a stumbling block, so I take it out.
For a while I was working on a Walken impression. I never got good at it, but his accent was creeping into my speech inappropriately during work, so I stopped working on the impression.

Which reminds me of how he lost the Batman role to Michael Keaton.

After I got out of the army I used to drive pretty slow. One reason the that little Datsun wouldn't go very fast and the other was just trying to take life easy after my army stint. Anyrate I would pull over all the time if I was in a one way lane and there were three people behind me. Drivers seemed to appreciate it.

So, now we get to add night terrors to our fun list of parenting activities.

There’s nothing quite as adrenaline-inducing than being woken up at 2am by your 8 year old screaming “No! Stop! HELP MEEEEEEE!” at the top of their lungs.

That was gorram terrifying. Took a good 5 minutes to snap the poor kid out of it too. :(

I remember being so afraid of nightmares at that age that my dad would pray with me before bed. My uncle also suggested I try to control my brain by repeating a mantra. I'd wake up in the middle of the night repeatedly saying, "no bad dreams, no bad dreams". I don't think it worked, but I eventually grew out of the fear.

I still wake up screaming a few times a year, usually followed by 30 seconds of disorientation that I barely recall the next morning. (Mrs. Nym remembers for me.)

Man, I can understand cost being an issue, but if you have nowhere to set up a Z-Scale layout... :D

Well, I hear ya... but, I'm generally genuinely more concerned about all the people that are truly made unhappy on this day. Or the relationships put under artificial pressure, or all the kids in school that feel confused and challenged by it.
So, while there are people that use this day to express love, I don't see it as a healthy holiday at all. That quote I shared says it all.

I've been seeing a lot of holidays that way, recently. But I've come to realize that a lot of the chocolate that gets discounted really isn't worth eating. I'm even tired of Lindt balls.

I had a girlfriend like that many years ago. I've always wanted to treat the day as such but I can't remember a February 15th that has allowed me to chocolate shop. This year is no exception.

On the other hand, this hits close to home for most every other relationship I've had

I've never felt VD left out, lonely, or depressed. I have felt major stress for doing something special on prescribed day. I don't miss it.

Christmas gets me a little. Mainly, I think, because pre-COVID, there was a small group of us who did after Christmas gatherings, dubbed "Sucks to be Yule" by the original host and I miss the group, some of which literally only see that day any more.

I am sure I posted stuff about it at one point, but 10-15 years ago I got heavily into hobby grade RC cars and eventually just stopped. This past week my youngest (12) decided he wanted to play with them. I have 8 hobby grade RC cars, 5 of which are fully built and kitted out. I also have 5 radios/controllers, some of which are capable of being bound to multiple cars. Most of the cars batteries are LiPO, which is not know for a great shelf life. Out of all of those cars and controllers, I was actually able to get 1 controller to power up and find once of the cars it was bound too which also still had some battery left. Side note, my high end charger wouldn't actually do anything.

Basically I spent a couple of hours scouring (and later another hour cleaning out) a closet to find all the bits and bobbins to mess with an RC car for 15 minutes. Somewhat sadly, the one I got running is a road car. We were really hoping for some backyard fun.

Now I am thinking about next steps. I could take them all to the hobby shop and ask for help and post them all for sale "as is" and wish somebody best of luck collecting a pittance for what cost me thousands.

Went to the pawn shop to sell some of my jewelry. Got less than half of my estimate for it. Also tried to sell a 22 to them. They couldn't meet my minimum. Looks like my collection is worth less than half of what I thought it was.

Went on to the hospital to see my wife. She's still in ICU. Still doing rather poorly in my opinion.
She's still intubated . Recognizes me and could squeeze my hand. That's about it. Guess she's still sedated. Looks like it's going to be awhile before/if she comes home. <sigh>
I actually got a parking space at the hospital that was close to the door. It said veterans only. First time I've ever seen that. Took me awhile to figure out if I was qualified. Maybe in service now?

I wish I could go back in time to different points in my own life and pay attention more. Today Im eating frozen lasagna and wishing Id paid more attention when I would help my step mom make her homemade lasagna. All I recall is the noodles and adding tomato paste. She had some special way of making the meat sauce. Ive never had a better lasagna in my life and her's was a simple recipe. But its that meat sauce flavor Ive never found again. Some kinda spices or something. AFAIK she used a jarred pasta sauce from the store and a little can of paste but what spices she added to the meat eludes me.
