It's possible that he drove by first, which triggered the arrival message. And perhaps the 'delivered' message is automated on a timer (as opposed to giving pizza drivers specialized tech to break.)

Here we used to get delivery and it was high...they add that stupid delivery fee which isn't even a tip. A large 3 topping pan pizza delivered was like $30 and if I just pick it up it was $12. They are even cheaper now. But I just get frozen for $5...almost as good.

We grew up with #5.
I have seen most of those at other peoples houses, but - nope. I grew up with two sets.

The first was my mother's set, which we used from sometime in the 70s (or possibly even '80) on when she was alive, and after when my father and I lived together. I haven't seen it since we moved around 1990. I loved this set, and only lost the last piece of it (a single bowl that I'd kept) in the last decade. I wish now that I had checked the maker's mark on it, as I've been trying to find a replacement for years. It was brown stoneware, a full set including cups, plates, bowls, utility pieces, etc. It was a warm, medium brown, darker toward the edges. The surface was just slightly textured (natural bumps) rather than smooth, and the whole thing was matte - not shiny. It was also tough as hell. My father and I weren't careful when I was growing up, and these things lasted for twenty years, during which time I don't recall a single piece breaking.

The second set was my grandmother's. When I live with her from '82 to '85, and again from '90 to '92, these were what we ate on:

I have never been able to warrant deliver for just that reason. Delivery fee plus tip $5 or 10% whichever is more customary, turns a $15 order into $25 order. For that $10+ I can pick it up. The convenience isn't there... Unless we're gaming... Then the convenience is what you're paying for.

(I grew up with white dishes. No patterns.)

The only time I've ever gotten delivery here was during in-person D&D games, and that was always on a 'everybody chip in' order.

If I could find even a single image of it, I would. It's too similar in description to too many other sets.

Holy crap, change one word. Dozens of variations and combinations of the words 'brown matte plate stoneware dinnerware 1970s 1980s' etc, and nothing. But on a whim I switched 'stoneware' to 'clay' and found them.

Are the wine cooler drinks of today as good as the old originals of the 80s? For some reason Im thinking they suck but then again after time and testing they should rock. Ive not had one in decades. In the 80s though I liked Bartle & Jaymes and loved Seagrams Golden.

Im not talking malt drinks. I hate malt liquor ever since I drooled over Malt Duck until I got one..yeech.

I saw our little bat flying around just now eating his or her fill of mosquitos and bugs. As long as Ive lived here...34 years......we've always had a pair of them. Never seen more than that at once. Wife said they were here since she was little so another 30+ years before I met her. I have no idea where they live or why there never seems to be more of them. Must be some small nook in the hill behind the house. Love them. They only come out at dusk to feed. Can sit on the porch and watch them flit around here and there between the trees. Sometimes low sometimes higher up.

The house smells like my father in law has returned from Heaven for a day of canning. He always had one or two gardens going every year. I mean he was out there in 100 degree July and Aug heat at age 90. That was his last year as he passed the next year. But he was cooking and canning all summer long every year. The kitchen was always an inferno and smelled of dill or vinegar and what not.

I was just boiling some vinegar and pickling spice for my pickled eggs and the smell filled the house. I instantly thought of him and it brought tears to me. That mans dill pickles were so amazingly good and unique. At times that heat and smell was too much for me. Even my wife would tire of it and we'd hit the movies or the mall or something. But smelling it again now its a happy yet sad memory of him and the time long gone.

Bizarre case of a shooting at the Hollywood Wax Museum, in Myrthle Beach SC.

B and his family went to the Zombie Experience at the Hollywood Wax Museum Haunted House.

During one of the scares by a performer, a member of the audience fell to the floor.

B felt a pistol hit his foot.

He then picked it up and fired two shots at the performer, hitting him once in the shoulder. (!)

Realizing the gun is f***ing real, B then handed the gun to his 15-year-old nephew and they
left the area. (!!)

I remember us talking about AARP. Funny is they offered me a free year today. Not sure Ill take it. Im just 52 and will be 53 next month. I remember when my wife had it she liked the magazine but it seemed awfully spammy and stuff to me. Id probably get it then come a year from now they would auto charge me another year.

I just got in an order of soap from Stirling Soap Company, both bar soap and body wash. One of the bottles of body wash cracked open in transit, and the entire order arrived in a half dissolved box with the entire contents covered in a layer of soap slime and liquefied packing peanuts. It was a huge mess (although it did smell nice...) I'll be reaching out to Stirling for a replacement for the broken bottle.

But my novel experience of the day was washing soap off.

I was watching a TV show from the 70s the other day. They showed the olde decrepit man who was supposed to be 65 and they were all talking that he had lived too long and it was time for him to go.
I looked up the actor and he was 80.

The average age of death last year was 79 years. You remember the people who die at 60 because it is so young, and you remember the ones that die at 95 because it is so old. That doesn't mean that they represent the average.

'Middle age' is usually defined as 45-65.

Talking about average lifespan can be very misleading. This is especially true when talking about past generations.

For example, you frequently hear things like "average lifespan in the Middle Ages was 35," but that doesn't mean most people died in their 30s. Instead, it reflects that many children didn't survive childhood due to untreatable childhood diseases.

I assume statisticians have this covered. Is there a term for "average lifespan of people who survived to puberty"?

While the numbers may not be exact, the point didn't rely on them. People in 30s aren't middle-aged, and people in their 50s aren't elderly.

Unless you're 17.

In a variation of that I had a friend (around 20) who said he wasn't going to be religious until just before he died.

I have a Mustang so of course I have the 3 panel rear lights. But damn if I know what the innermost panel does. It never lights up. I tried blinkers, flashers, and brakes. Just the outer two panels bulbs light up. The one on the innermost side on both sides has bulbs but never lights up. Theres a separate backup bulb and white panel below that one. Maybe it lights up with the backup but doubt it. Im alone so not sticking it in reverse and running over myself to find out.

Looks like this...not my car.
