Rather accept that pop is gone, and this is an entirely new drink, to be approached on its own terms. "If I'm not drinking pop, I can find a new thing to drink - how about this?" Or possibly do a 'palate reset' when you're finally done with pop - get rid of every sugary drink in your house, and make yourself stick with plain water for a month. Afterward, your mouth won't be expecting sugar when something wet goes in, and you'll be able to better appreciate other things. And, from my experience, pop will then taste like painfully sweet super-syrup. I can't stand the stuff anymore, save for the occasional small drink.

Whatever you do, don't fall for other sugary drinks (sweet tea, Kool-Aid, lemonade, sports drinks, juice, etc), or large amounts of high-calorie drinks (milk - this was a problem for me for a while.) Or compensate with sugary snacks.
Soft drink makers hate this one weird trick:

Drink unflavored seltzer, but buy a few bottles of flavored syrup used by bartenders for various cocktails (e.g. grenadine, etc).

A tablespoon of syrup in a tall glass of plain seltzer adds a lot of flavor without anything like the sugar of a canned soda.

I recently saw it pointed out how strange it is that so many New York movies feature narrow alleys that NYC just doesn't have.

Turns out it's because Vancouver has them.

That would be quite expensive just for a 12 pack.

Depending on my mood, I could see these working for me.

Along with the popsicle one and maybe the prescription one.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

In all honesty, those didn’t really grab me enough to laugh.

They are all versions of ‘it’s so hot that This Thing is even more !”
Flamingos move more north. More AC needed. The Sicle is off the Pop.

I’d go for more of a juxtaposed joke of two common phrases, add a pinch of vulgarity for reaction:

It’s so hot outside you could fry an egg on a witch’s tit!

I'm running behind here, but I found it easiest to just drive to Niagara Falls to get it. Of course that was 25 years ago and I am about 1300 miles further away now (and also stopped drinking).

I've never even seen it here. Mind you, the way liquor stores work in Ontario, things can sometimes be hyper-regional rather than being available at every location. Sometimes only available in major centres. I've also never seen anything by the Big Rock brewery out this way.

We were watching Jeopardy tonight when a contestant mentioned that his family had been watching the show so long ago that they were recording it on their VCR. Ken then made a joke about it. It made me think back to when my wife and I got our first VCR; it was a VHS unit. I can't be sure, but when I was sent TDY to Vandenberg AFB in California in spring of 1986 we shipped our VCR out to there so she could record her daytime programs; she took the time she was out there to drive down to LA to try out for various game shows*. We shipped the VCR back and used it until we eventually switched to DVRs. And we've had those ever since.

* My wife got try outs on several shows and eventually was selected for Password. She drove down on the day of taping but they had canceled because one of the celebrities was sick. They rescheduled the taping and she would have gone, except my TDY was up and I was surprising her with a trip to Hawaii. She weighed the options, Hawaii vs Password, and Password lost out .

It's not the first time someone in her family had been on a game show. Her mother was on I've Got A Secret and no, the panel never guessed the secret.

Your resident copy editor rules that "OK" is the correct form in all instances. I don't shame those who write "okay," but I do silently judge them.

"OK" is understood in nearly all languages, and nobody's sure how it originated.

Wish I knew how to preserve things. I'd say I should learn but this pricing won't hold out forever, right? There's a farm not too far from me that will let you put all the fresh sweet corn (way better than the stuff at any of my grocers) in two bags (about 50 ears) for $7. I can only go through about 8-10 ears of fresh corn before it's not fresh any more and I'd also not care for corn at every meal 4 to 5 days straight. I'd start to remember that I used to work on a corn farm... Even going to farm with my parents brought bag memories of the crazy labor I did when I was moving into my teens.

My wife won a set of expensive watches on The Price is Right about 10 years ago. She came within a few inches during the follow-up sliding price guess of winning a new car.
We tried getting a new battery for one of the watches last year, and they can't be found.

Although, depending on the local laws, it may be possible to have a liquor store handle the shipping legally. Of course, now you're talking about surcharge on top of surcharge.

When I got my first apartment as a starving college student, I bought a dozen ears of sweet corn (glad to hear it's still so cheap in Mich.), stripped the kernels from the cobs, and froze them in personal serving sizes.

The food bank gives me canned corn which with my dental history is tough to eat...or chew I guess. So I drain it into a bowl or plate then take a fork and squish it all up into a mush. Then I heat it in a small pot and add salt, butter, a little milk, and some sugar for a nice squishy dessert creamed corn that is awesome.

I'm OK with ok, but most copy editors don't have the luxury of choosing a style. All of my clients default to AP Style, and AP says it's "OK, OK'd, OK'ing, OKs. Do not use okay".

"Oll korrect" is the most widely accepted origin story (and probably right), but it's not universally believed.
Although OK became one of the more commonly used initialisms, it might have passed into oblivion when the linguistic fad had passed if not for the presidential election of 1840, when Martin Van Buren was given the nickname of "Old Kinderhook" because of his hometown of Kinderhook, NY. The Van Buren stans who joined "OK Clubs" nationwide were themselves, they proclaimed, "OK." Their campaign was memorable enough to have both popularized the word and to have hijacked the story of its origin: there are today still those who believe that "Old Kinderhook" is the original meaning of OK.

As OK spread (helped along by the advent of the telegraph), its origin story was a topic of much speculation. "Old Kinderhook" persisted, and various linguistic ancestors from various languages were also proposed, with forebears from Latin, Greek, Scottish, French, Finnish, Anglo-Saxon via Swedish, Mandingo, and Wolof all being offered. The most persistent of these ancestors was the Choctaw word okeh. This etymon was suggested in 1885, with Andrew Jackson supposedly having borrowed the word from members of the Choctaw tribe. Woodrow Wilson was a believer: he wrote okeh on papers he approved. He was asked why he did not use O.K. "Because it is wrong," he replied.
