monarch butterflies soon to be on the endangered species list?
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature added the migrating monarch butterfly for the first time to its “red list” of threatened species and categorized it as “endangered” — two steps from extinct.

The group estimates that the population of monarch butterflies in North America has declined between 22% and 72% over 10 years, depending on the measurement method.

Conversely, whenever someone spells it as O.K, I always think of the O.K. Corral!

I dislike that we can't react to posts with an emoji like on Facebook, Discord, etc. Often someone has said something interesting or funny and I want to show approval and appreciation. But it isn't so interesting or funny that it deserves a whole post in reply. You may not have gotten a response but your joke was still good. We were not sending you a message. Do not despair.

And uh... relationship. What's that, your cousin on a boat? Hip sex?

+1

Yeah, but you wouldn't want to see that after every post. Then you're clicking on threads with new messages thinking someone has added something interesting to the conversation and it's just a +1.

Here's a fun dishonesty story (inspired, oddly enough, by a derail of the Fast Food thread):

After we graduated high school, my best friend went to a prestigious Military College where in their 1st semester the cadets take an oath to act honestly and to rectify (as far as possible) dishonest acts in the past.

As it turned out, my friend had been stealing chemistry equipment all through high-school senior year in order to build a nice little chemistry lab at home. Who knows why? He wasn't making drugs or even explosives.

His interpretation of his oath meant that he was required to set things as right as possible. However, since no one appeared to actually know that the stuff he'd stolen was even missing (the chemistry teacher was scatter-brained and somewhat bonkers), he felt that things could be set right by simply returning the stolen goods, few of which had been diminished by use at all.

Thus, in the interest of U.S. Navy honor, I went with my friend to break and enter into our former high school over Thanksgiving Break, finding an unlocked window that allowed us to slither through and return the stolen goods. Unfortunately, while the window itself was easily opened, the chemical storage closet itself was securely locked. We piled everything on the teacher's desk and wrote an anonymous apology and explanation on the blackboard.

This was in the late 1980s, probably just before more advanced security would have made the exploit impossible.

I'd love to know how the discovery struck everyone after the break.

Seriously though, it's a good story. Where have I heard another beaker theft story? Perhaps this is the one.

I'm thinking of taking a walk in the moderate heat and I'm seriously weighing whether I should wear clean clothes. I feel like my entire life has been a battle to synchronize the cleanliness of my body and my clothing.

You know, I think a pivotal moment in my childhood was being told by my dad after we'd just gotten two kittens, "Don't pet the cat while it's eating!" It's stuck with me throughout my life and I apply it to metaphorical situations as well as real. It's basically a family saying at this point.

That could be! Either that or it's actually a common thing and we had no idea.

If ever need to get information out of somebody I'll just give them hot tea before I make them eat ice cream.

I think was actually still 50 when Cocoon came out. He was definitely capable of playing above his age.

I'm 53 and still have a head of blond hair (although my chin is gray).

In my opinion, though, the important question isn't "What do you look like at 50" but "What would you do in The Thing?"

I think Stranger Things speaks well of Winona's answer.

It hit 99 degrees in Philly today.

Because the humidity wasn't so bad, it felt deceptively bearable. But when I tried to take the dog out for a walk (and he loooves his walks), he plopped down in the porch shade and refused to go another step. I always take that as a sign that the heat is dangerous.
