1. I dont know how my phone pocketdials or whatever but if I forget to turn it completely off before pocketing it then when I get it out its trying to install some app...every time. Never the same app. To do it needs to swipe to the next page, click the apps button, then find an app randomly to start to install. All this within 6 minutes of being put into my pocket and driving home.
My phone has a pocket mode that disables interaction whenever it's in a pocket. It does that by using the camera's infrared sensor as an interrupt. Great feature. More phones should have this.
Where would I look to see if I have this?
Ahh, found my problem. Under Smart Lock, I had "On-body detection" turned on, so the phone never locked when I walk. Turned that sucker off. Let's see if that puts an end to its shenanigans.
Another Microsoft update. Another case of them wanting me to sign in even tho I have my computer signing in when I turn it on. Another case of them not letting me continue until I do.
Another case of me resetting my computer and bypassing them.
Also another case of them wanting me to reset all my settings. <sigh>

Every few days I get a "Let's finish setting up your computer" notice from MS. They want to link up my phone and email and bank account and cloud and who the fuck knows what else. No fricking way. There is no option to say NO THANKS or STOP ASKING ME, all can do is hit REMIND ME LATER. This is hate with the heat of a thousand suns.

Do yourself a favour, and use the free Windows Utility developed by Chris Titus Tech to configure the 'Updates' section so that Windows Updates will only install necessary security updates, and feature updates after they have been proven stable, i.e. the recommended settings shown here:
To use it, you need only press your Windows key + X, select "Windows Powershell (Admin)" from the pop-up menu, then copy & paste the following into your elevated Powershell window and press enter:

I got that same message yesterday. I finally said ok, let's do it. On the next several screens, it gave me the option to say no for each feature. I ended up saying no to everything, and it said we're all done setting up Windows now. Done.

Sometimes I feel that around 1990 or so I forgot the English language. So many new words and acronyms. I think I understand olde English better than I do modern English. Not to mention my hearing volume has gone down.

My gadget from Finland arrived today. It doesn't fit. I'm going to email their "custermer service" (sic) and see if they'll give me a partial refund. I'm sure as hell not mailing it back to Finland. I don't mind paying their shipping fee, since they did ship it, but it would be nice to get the price of the gadget back, even if it is only $9.
I'm guessing it's a metric vs. imperial standards thing. US plumbing diameters are in inches, right? They are in my old house, anyway. This drain insert thingamabob is just a few millimeters too wide. Now I need to spend some time looking for a domestic equivalent product.
Background: my bathroom sink popup doesn't work anymore. I'm unwilling to replace it with another standard popup because the space I have to work in is just too tight. The gadget I bought is a popup + filter basket that just slips into the drain opening. Or should do.

Can you give it to us in the accent?

If I want to close the drain, I can just drop the popup stopper into place. It's sitting next to the sink and it plops right down. The problem is that it won't stay up. I want something that will prevent objects from falling down the drain while it's in use. I see a few products that do that, but they don't close.

That's kind of similar to what I want, but not quite there.
Not sure that will fit. "For 1-1/2" drains - does not fit 1-1/8" or 1-3/8" drains. My drain is 1-3/8" right at the lip, flush with the sink, but it tapers quickly to a 1-1/2" pipe. So it depends on which measurement is salient. Since it rests on the surface, I'd guess that the surface measurement is more relevant.
I'll try it anyway if I can't find anything better.

Sigh….walking back from the gym this afternoon I noticed a car with its back end pointed into the street and the front end side smashed in. I was like “that poor basta….THAT’S MY GODDAMN CAR!”.
Yup, hit and run, folks.
There also happened to be a cop car at the intersection. Turns out my 78 year old neighbor across the courtyard died sometime in the last few days. I really do think the most horrific sentence you can hear is “the neighbors smelled something”. Nice guy though. Sorry to hear he passed.
The cop that eventually returned to his squad car told me that waiting for a police cruiser to come out and file a report would take a long time, so he told me the car looked like it was drivable, so I should just head over to the police station and file it there. Which I did. It makes scraping sounds as the fender is demolished and hanging over the wheel, but the engine and steering seem fine. There is an airbag warning that constantly displays on my dash though.
Geico is having me take it in for repairs on Tuesday morning, the soonest they could get me in anywhere apparently. I’ve never had a car this badly damaged, so I hope it can be repaired. I would assume it can be as I did drive it a few miles today to the police station. But I’m a dunce when it comes to cars (and math, science, simple reasoning skills, etc.).
I really don’t want to have to buy a new car right now. I just broke a hundred thousand on this one, but it’s a Honda Civic 2016 so I was planning on getting at least another. 50 thousand out of it. I just really hate car shopping.

Philadelphia has for years had a traditional "Porchfest" day when various local bands play on house porches in a kind of rolling local music festival.
Porchfest is traditionally based in West Philly neighborhoods close to the university district. This year my good friend Eliot organized and expanded it (at a different date) to include NW Philly (the Roxborough and Manayunk neighborhoods) as RoxYunk Porchfest, which happened today.
We hosted a Jazz and Pop combo on our porch for two hours and attracted an audience of close to 40. It was great fun and produced some new neighborhood connections.
Meanwhile, just around the corner there was porch show that started at 1pm and ended around 6:30. They had several bands, and when I was hanging out with them I heard covers ranging from sea shanties, Hank Williams, the Pogues, Talking Heads, Blondie, and the Pixies. The crowd spilled out into and shut down the street. There were probably 120 in the audience for just a neighborhood porch show without commercial ticketing or advertising. Good stuff!
What's amazing to me is the number of local porch performers who have a presence on Spotify, YouTube, Band Camp, etc.

Man, that sucks. GEICO came through nicely when I was rear ended. Hope they do the same for you. Waiting to get the parts in was the worst part.
And fixing the door I had dinged myself.

I love Geico. I’ve never had an ounce of trouble with them. I selected a body shop they steer folks towards that’s a little further away from my place because the last time I had to have some body work done, they actually fixed up other stuff unrelated to the accident “just because”. I’m hoping they fix the long scratch on my hood that resulted from me thinking I could brush some snow off the hood of my car with a snow shovel last winter.
But I’m not looking forward to the 7 mile drive to the shop with my left side fender hanging off and the plastic scraping against my wheel the whole way.
I don’t think they’ll recommend it be considered totaled, but if the cost of the repairs does come out to be more than the value of the car (which I doubt), it looks like prices are starting to trend downward. They’re still high, but at least it’s not the height of overpriced trend.

I've only had one claim since switching to GEICO several years ago, and they handled it like champs. No hassles, no arguments.
