This one was mine. A friend pulled out this cassette on our drive home from school, and said "you guys gotta hear this". It blew me away.

I had a friend try to introduce me to Skain Pickle at the time and I rejected them along with Humungousfungusaomngus. He did, however, forever make me fall in love Camper Van Beethoven and Big Black in 86 or 87.

We watched a YouTube video of a live performance. I didn't tell him in advance what to expect.Skinypupy wrote: Wed Aug 15, 2018 9:31 amI had to look up 4'33", never heard of that before. Is there some joke here that's just sailing over my headAWS260 wrote: Tue Aug 14, 2018 11:46 pm We did a bit of cultural education for the boy tonight: Smells Like Teen Spirit ("When does this song end? Is it over yet?"), 4' 33" ("This is boring."), and Rapper's Delight (intrigued silence). One out of three ain't bad.
After about 30 seconds, he asked "What are they doing?", and I explained that 4' 33" is whatever ambient noise you hear -- for me, it was leaves rustling in the tree outside our window, cars on the street, and him chewing pretzels.
He wasn't fazed by this profound insight and said, "This is boring."
I replied, "Now the song is you saying 'This is boring.'"
He countered, "Poop poop poop poooooop!"

Now you made me look up 4'33". I saw the name John Cage and looked no further and I assume AWS 2.0. The others? Well, how old is the little one?

One of the best shows I've been to was the tour for this album. Caught a drumstick. Big fun. I want this music played at my funeral.
I think I've had at least 3 LTJ albums in my car CD changer (how old am I?) for 15+ years now. Never fails to make driving more gooder.

These guys were friends and hometown heroes. My wife went to High School with most of the dudes in the band and dated their first bass player.

Jill Janus, lead singer of Huntress, committed suicide yesterday at 43 years old. I was never a huge fan, but they did a hell of a job doing some straight-up, old-school heavy metal. RIP Jill.

I am having a great afternoon listening to (and watching music videos from) FKA Twigs. Her music is wonderfully weird and disturbing, and she's an amazing dancer.

I was lucky enough to see them a few years ago when Afterman was released and they were amazing. Despite the complexity of a lot of their songs, they sounded almost like the recordings live. Totally awesome show

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I can believe it. I listen to a lot of their live stuff via Youtube and I think I saw them perform a "live" show on a Guitar Center exclusive via DirecTV at some point. There's so much going on in every song - things I only pick up on when I have headphone on or it's blasting at hearing-loss levels in my car. Guitar or drum fills, sometimes even the backing vocals. That's what makes stripped down versions like this:disarm wrote: Sun Oct 07, 2018 1:08 am I was lucky enough to see them a few years ago when Afterman was released and they were amazing. Even more amazing to me. I only just found out this song is about the drummer's heroin addition (and recovery), but it's been another that's in my rotation. I like it even more than the album version.

In retrospect, the fact that I was alerted to it on release day via a banner ad in my fantasy baseball league website probably should have been a sign.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I've been enjoying it, particularly the songs sung by Dan. It's their first album in 5 years, and their 9th overall. That has to mean something! I'd love to see this live.
I saw them play a show back in the early 2000s. One of the shortest shows I've ever been to, but they were solid.

You say that like its a bad thing.

But yeah, it definitely feels like a Maiden riff...right up until the song loses its goddamn mind.

VNV Nation's latest album Noire is off to a good start with this track, A Million:
Among other things, I've pretty much had Gloryhammer on repeat since seeing them live. They've also piqued/re-piqued my interest in power metal, so I've been listening to Blind Guardian's entire catalogue for the first time (outside of Beyond the Red Mirror and Battlefield, the amazing song from Robot Unicorn Attack: Heavy Metal). One of my favourites is Mordred's Song from 1995's Imaginations from the Other Side.

Back when Paul Rudd was the secret front-man for 3EB!Listening to a little late 90s.
I know they're not the greatest, but their first CD came out just as I was graduating college and moving into my first apartment, ready to have the most ridiculous year of my life. There are a number of CDs and songs that came out that year that are forever inked on my brain simply because of the time and I won't apologize for liking them!
Trivia: The bassist in 3EB for that debut album (Arion Salazar) was the composer for the soundtrack of Interstate '76.
Maybe next year, maybe no go
