Well, we've been told there's been exposure on our campus, not a direct exposure, but a family member that was exposed, but they're sending all of the people that work in that part of the building home for 2 weeks while they disinfect.
I guess I could handle working at home for a couple of weeks. We'll see if it goes that far.

NY to deploy National Guard to New Rochelle. This seems more like a typical flu season every day. Cue Trump saying this is an overreaction and a Dem trying to destroy the markets, etc.

The University where I work has cancelled in-person classes, and will be fully online, with most staff probably working from home where appropriate.

Read a quote today that college dorms are just stationary cruise ships. Be interesting to see if they close down my daughter's small rural liberal arts college.

Going out and getting water by force is risky no matter how much ammo you have. Water is heavy and awkward to carry. You're better off with a lot of water/water source and a little bit of ammo vs. lot of ammo and little water.
I don't have any ammo, but I have hoarded enough toilet paper to declare myself Lord of the Wasteland.

Just got word that the Institute is doing the same thing. Classes are all canceled next week, then will be fully online after spring break. Not unexpected, but still shocking.

There appears to be 1, maybe 2 cases in the SEC's DC office, so everyone there is teleworking for now. I assume that it's more or less inevitable that it'll happen in Boston also. I also assume that it's inevitable that someone in my school's community will get it at some point at that'll shut down for awhile. Should be fun.
Re: Corona Virus/Superbug Thread: It's the End of the World as We Know It...
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a one-mile (1.6km) coronavirus "containment zone" around a town north of New York City.
New Rochelle has seen "probably the largest cluster" of US cases, he said.
National Guard troops will be used to clean schools in the town and deliver food to any quarantined individuals.
Mr Cuomo said there would be no travel restrictions in New Rochelle (population 77,000) but large meeting points in the area would be closed.
Schools, gathering places and businesses in the virus hot spot will be closed for two weeks.
Officials will also set up a coronavirus testing facility at a local hospital.
"It is a dramatic action but it is the largest cluster in the country and this is literally a matter of life and death," Mr Cuomo said, adding that numbers of cases were "going up unabated" in New Rochelle.
"You're not containing people. You're containing facilities."

The eye-openers for me were an initial R-naught of 3.86 before containment measures dropped it to .3, and that (if I'm reading it correctly) -- there were an additional 59% of undiagnosed cases floating around out there.

This is the (il)logical conclusion you have to come to when you keep skewing your views on reality so you don't need to feel like a monster for backing a monster.

It is true that the one big upside to the coronavirus is that at this point it will materially lower Trump's chances of reelection, both due to Trump's obviously botched response to it and due to the likely economic impacts. The irony being that an early and vigorous response was both in the nation's best interest and in Trump's own political self-interests, but he was too dumb to realize that.

I dont know. The MAGAs aren't the brightest bulbs. Ive seen farmers interviewed that say Trump is making them lose their farms and yet they will vote for him again. Others Ive seen still support him and think he's just peachy perfect the best even after all his stupidity and bungling and lack of caring.

Trump can't win with just the MAGA faithful. He also needs to win a decent percentage of habitual Republicans and white working class voters who haven't gone full MAGA. If the economy is diving in November 2020 Trump is borderline doomed.

Chinese health authorities and a team from the World Health Organization reported Monday evening that 3,387 health workers in China had been infected with COVID-19, more than 90% of whom were in Hubei province, the outbreak’s ground zero.
The rate of new infections and deaths overall appears to be slowing in China. But the toll on medical workers reflects the harrowing costs of a politically delayed response that overwhelmed Wuhan and surrounding Hubei’s healthcare systems. Hospital staffer were left underprotected, overworked and increasingly vulnerable, even as they became the nexus between a frightened public and a misdirected government.
