That sort of hat was what I was originally going to go for. The new masks are in my washing machine right now. Instructions say no drier, which is a drag for me but I don't imagine I'll be washing them often. Should be dry by Monday, so we'll see what's up then. I'm more concerned about the biting cold wind than the cold itself, especially on my ears, so this should be good to take the edge off and make walking tolerable.

Plus, when a man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything.

I have one a lot like this..cheaper version though..faux everything....made for warmth not looks. Really is comfy.

I've been looking, and I can't find them. Did you mean those that support 200+250 lbs? If so, those won't work either. The top bunk supports 200 pounds, which has to include the mattress. A 35-pound mattress (which is what he has) combined with a 170-pound, 6'+ man already exceeds that.

It's listed under "kids bunk beds" but they list lower bunk weight limit at 450lbs and upper bunk at 300lbs.

Ashley Furniture used to be in the old Chicago Toys R Us location. I joked about being old having switched toy shopping for board game table chair shopping. Chairs were sturdy and reasonably priced, but too tempting for clawed cats and will eventually get reupholstered.

What's the point of the turned-up flap in front? Are there conditions under which you would flip it down over your face, thus blinding yourself?

The utility of leather & fur bomber-jacket style clothing is that 1940s/50s planes flew nearly unheated at high cold altitudes. But no one flying an airplane would want to cover their face. So why that flap?

EDIT: It looks like that classic "bomber hat" is closely related to the Eastern-European/Russian "Ushanka," a warm furred hat for people on the ground. Landed wearers would benefit from covering their face while resting, etc.

But this still doesn't explain why efficiency-obsessed air forces like the WW2 Americans and British would have wasted leather and fur on face flaps for flight crews (if indeed they did at all?).

Ive wondered that myself. All the flaps on mine have snaps so I can snap them up out of the way. Then I have a little fut beanie on my head which I cant figure why anyone would wear it that way..well cept the back its more like a fur mullet. But that front flap does unsnap..why I dont know. Perhaps driving wind blown snow .

The best reference I can find in several places is that the fur helps against blunt force trauma as to if this is part of the reason for they fur on the front or if it is just age old fashion, no idea.

I just spent some time looking at pics of WW2 bomber crews, and everything I saw suggests that Allied fliers wore caps without face-flaps.

I conclude that the "bomber cap" is a marketing misnomer. "Ushanka" is the accurate description.

Wind break and extra insulation? To make it warmer for taking a nap (this style is early 20th century, so it was cold inside, too.) Perhaps for passengers in vehicles who didn't need to see, but were getting a face full or icy wind? Or, just as likely (for oddball fashion trends that don't make sense out of context - like wearing ties), maybe it was originally a completely different design, and the front was retained for stylistic reasons. Or maybe it was like slashed sleeves in the 16th century - there to show off the expensive fur that was otherwise all on the inside (slashed sleeves were to show off your expensive shirt when you were wearing a jacket over it.)

For the last few months I've been giving my dogs Cesars dog food. It is unbelievable how happy these olde dogs get. And that makes me happy.

Im glad. I bought a little pack of it and wrapped it for Buster. I have no clue what to get him. He needs nothing and wants less. So some food is it. Maybe some other little item if I find something this week. Pretty sad Christmas.

Chipotle just opened near me within walking distance so we will give it a try for the first time today. I've been to Moe's a couple times but never a Chipotle.

I see they have a plant-based option Sofritas that my wife may like. Has anyone tried it? Any opinions on go-to items to definitely try from Chipotle? If the food is good, we may be visiting frequently.

My wife (vegan) is good with the sofritos. I think she likes the seasoning with a little kick to them. I've never tried them.

Chipotle is perfectly cromulent for generic burritos. I don't think they'll blow you away, but they're big and filling and lots of customization options.

This is consistent with my trip this morning. The last shop for eggs for me was a deep sale of 18 large for $1.49. I picked up 90 eggs (limit 5) and that last me until now. I just couldn't pull the trigger today and the suggestion out there is that prices are still rising. Ouch.

Never had Chipolte. I had mostly quit eating out before they became ubiquitous around here. I dug me some Moe's way back when, when I cared less about my weight than I do now.

As long as it's decent food, I'm happy to have a place I can just walk over to. I'll probably stick with the generic burritos to start. I should probably download their app and see if they have a reward program or something like Starbucks and just about everybody else has.

I stopped buying eggs almost a year now. My last trip to Aldi's which I remember getting some good organic eggs for $2.79/dozen is now over $5.

It's for extra insulation. When it is windy, cold will go right through the single layer and give you a massive headache. Consider riding a horse. Then consider open cockpits, or the waist gunners on B-17s.

Its always that way for me. Ive said that before. And recently. I got some money from a sale of an item last week and planned to put a little with it come Jan and pay my property taxes which Ive had ZERO saved for..and they are due in 2 months. But if I get money I bleed it away and cant help it. Like now I HAVE to get Kerosene and its $5.50+ a gal and I need 5 gal. The cold snap may know out power and after just getting water I cant afford to lose it to busted piping. But there goes property tax . Never fails and its not something I can stop. It would also take away all next months medicine...unless they let me pay for it in Feb which then puts me that far instantly behind in feb.

My friend sent me the info on this...this may be his video....and train smacked a truck down the road from here and derailed...all 3 engines and a lot of cars plus the track is ripped up for a long ways. No details on deaths yet.

OK, so I'm not crazy...I needed to buy some eggs last Friday before going on a ski trip, and a dozen large AA eggs (generic Kroger brand) were $4.99, which is the highest I've seen them...well, ever. I checked every price tag on the shelf to make sure that I wasn't looking at the wrong thing.

Lens wipes. Which is two aisles down. Sometimes aisles are used as throughways. This one is the one that's right in front of the pharmacy window.

In our Walmart those items are in a locked case and you have to press a button that calls for an associate.

Then press it again when nobody shows up.
Then repeat the cycle eight more times until you give up and chase an associate down so they can call over the one person that actually has the key.

Probably better suited to go to a local specialty store or mail order.
