I actually read and comprehended that at almost-normal speed. It helps that the connector words aren't obscured.

I lost my carefully constructed examples when my ISP dropped, but you can confound this by structuring longer words into different familiar syllables or jumbling their letters into total gibberish.

Ah, I overlooked that.

As a copy editor, fixing broken words is what I get paid to do, so I have a broad net for word recognition.

Running over stuff from my past, whether its old pc hardware, places, people, whatever, is a way of coping with my life. Its a time passer and usually a pick me up. Sometimes it can depress me though and make me sad. But most times Ive come to see it as mentally coping and getting through a spot or day.

Tonight Im doing it with old pc hardware Ive owned and used over the years. I try to remember what that hardware was, when and why I stopped using it and then onto the next. Like monitors. Ive gone from 14" to 17" crts to 20" and 27" lcds flat panels to this 29" ultrawide lcd . I was going over the time I used them and it sure seems like a long time I used a 14" then 17" crt before moving on. Because my first 20" LCD was May 2007. I was thinking it was 2004 until I looked up LOTR Online's beta test. It was during that test I was asking chat about LCDs for gaming and decided to get one that May 2007 not 2004. So my memory sucks..nothing new. I dont think I had a 15" that I recall at all.

All this started because I have a 15" crt I found in my old pc parts room and have no clue why I have it or how. Im sure its not mine. I think its the one I was given around 2009.

Anyways thats one coping mechanism for me.

I remember going from a 14" to a 17" just to get ready for the 3DO video machine that was coming soon. Never got the 3DO, but used that 17" monitor for many years! Google says that would have been in 1993. Sheesh. Time flies by.

It's kind of funny - auto and home debt doesn't bother me. Well, I do keep it to a pretty small ratio of my salary, so even if I get fired and have to take a pretty healthy step back, I'll still be able to make the payments. So that might play a big part.

Our "mortgage" was a HELOC, so hitting zero didn't feel like a huge milestone. After all, the LOC is still open and we'll probably borrow against it for home improvements later this year.

Paying off my car last November felt like a bigger deal because I got my title in the mail.

It is nice to be debt-free for the moment but it didn't change my monthly budget. I'm still making monthly house and car payments...into our savings account.

Congrats! Im looking to do that someday before I die :)

Ill just add this to this post and save a post....

I had to pay half my property taxes this month. If I dont pay them in full but the end of next month they add back my credit discount so another $150 id be behind. I was unable to save the money to pay them all last year. I tried. And tried. So half next month too. I didn't know I could pay half and half before Jan or I would have done it last year when I had some extra cash.

But this has left me with no money to pay my power bill...and Ive now found out they are not flexible at all. They have already added a late fee as of the 19th and if I dont pay by the 29th they cut my power off. I went by today to show them my credit voucher approval of $600. I get them every year. They can see that. When it goes in it will pay this month's total amount. They dont care. I get the credit 2nd week in Feb. But they dont care. Cut off come 29th. I dont get the silliness of that. Its hard to comprehend. In the 17 years me and my wife and now myself have paid that bill we have never once been late. Before that I dont think my father in law was late . Power has been hooked up and on here since like 1940. And its 100% guaranteed they will be paid in full next month...and thats enough credit for about 3 or 4 more months. They dont care.

So I went by Salvation Army to beg. They might be able to help but require the bill, my ID , proof of income, and the disconnect letter from the power company. All well and good but the power company doesn't mail that letter out until 3 day AFTER the 19th. So it will be at least the 25th or so before I even get it. Thats cutting it damn close.

If I fail at it and they cut me off Ill be without power at least a week maybe 2. Most likely 2 because I could pay my bill come the 3rd of Feb but then I have NONE yet again for the next power bill or the property tax..and they'll had that $150 fee thing. Besides no cooking, no internet, and no heat for me and the little dog that means all my frozen food will spoil. Half my food is frozen as I stock it up a little each month because its cheap and keeps so long. It gets me by.

What a shitty policy. Sry for long post just venting. They did tell me about the salvation army and one other place to try. And Im doing more. You'd think they'd accept a partial payment as I think I may be able to borrow $20. But they said no. Its all of nothing not part of something with them.

EDIT: Ill have the credit next month so wont need to make a payment.

Man, life in a red state. Here, it takes an act of the Department of Public Utilities to shut off someone's power.
If all residents of your home are age 65 and over, your electricity or gas cannot be shut off without permission from the Department of Public Utilities (DPU).

If you are experiencing financial hardship and one of the following applies, your electric or gas cannot be shut off without permission from the DPU:

You, or someone in your home, is seriously ill;
You have an infant under 12 months in your home;
All adults in the home are age 65 or older and a minor child resides in the home;
It is between November 15 and March 15 and the utility service is needed to heat your home.
Practically speaking, one needs to be delinquent for months before the state will allow a shutoff, and never during heating season. Not late by 2 weeks. That's nuts.

This state and this town in particular suck. Always have.

Nah cant get anything when you pawn an item around here. I dont really have anything to pawn anyways....mostly my wife stuffed animals and dolls and clothes and such. My only items I have up for sale right now are that barely used well pump I bought and a 15" crt monitor and my last Brother laser printer i replaced a couple years ago.

Im still looking for more stuff to sell all the time though. Just people want to just click and looks. I get dozens of clicks and maybe 1 or 2 "is it still for sale" even if I posted it that day and a couple "will you take $5?"

I swear if I posted a $1000 gold brick for $2 someone would ask if Id take $1. Im gonna start posting stuff higher then work down. Trouble then is less interest.

I just discovered today that once you are President you can never drive again. Least not on public roads. Not allowed. You are driven by Secret Service forever. I would seriously hate that one. Least I never have to worry about it :D

So what if the President and Vice President were in an accident and the VP was killed and the Pres went into a coma, and they swore in the Speaker as President. Then an hour later the Pres snaps out of it and jumps out of bed to resume his duties. Would the Speaker who was President for an hour be prohibited from ever driving again?

Re: Random randomness

So far as I can find out, there is no actual law prohibiting an ex-President from driving on public roads. It seems to be a security procedure, and the penalty for breaking the rule is that they piss off their security detail.

There are anecdotes out there of President Johnson driving out in Texas over the speed limit and driving his security detail nuts. Note that it not illegal for the president to do that or at least he can't be prosecuted.
