Galactica 1980 S01E10: The Return Of Starbuck

Ya ya I know...Galactica 1980 was pretty crappy. Even as an 11 year old who dearly loved BSG I knew 1980 was pretty bad.

But this is a pretty good ep because its Starbuck and a Cylon becoming stranded together and being friends. Theres so dodgy space magic crap in it and a really REALLY bad wig on a kid and beard on Adama.....but the friendship makes it worth a watch.

It really is. As one of the comments says, "Only Queen can rock an entire stadium without even being there."

That stadium singing video was unexpectedly affecting. It's not like I'm a big Queen fan or anything. But I think I get excited about people working together in a such a cool and unexpected way... odd.

I have to admit, one of my favorite memories from my time in the Navy was being in a bar in Spain with a group of about 80 drunken sailors all singing along to American Pie.

Well it is Wembley Stadium right? Of course it had to be Queen. Their greatest stuff was there in 85 and 86.

I can only imagine that Green Day knew the bar for their performance that night was raised way high with that crowd...

Several years ago we saw They Might Be Giants play a small auditorium at the Museum of Fine Arts. Halfway into their first set, the power blew out. The Johns stood there for a few minutes, not knowing what to do; there was no PA to even make an announcement. One of them shouted an awkward non-explanation and they left the stage.

After watching roadies trace cables for a few minutes the audience spontaneously started singing their hits. I think we were into Anna Ng when the Johns came back out and stood there silently, just taking it in. The sight of 250 fans singing their music moved them to tears.

When the power finally came back on they gave us a helluva show.

Its a HUGE dome church made only by who else, the Romans and their arches that hold it up. Its totally open under that massive dome. It would be another 900 years before a bigger dome was built.

Hmmm seeing that open pit mine in Utah makes me wonder that if they ever stopped using it and converted it into a radio dish telescope just how powerful ti would be compared to Arecibo .
