Got my car tag renewal card in the mail today. Strangely its always been $25 - $30 or so. This time it simply shows $5.25. And thats it. Im not sure if thats because we got new tags completely last year or what. Ill take it though...and even toss in an extra $1 to help organ donor awareness.

Your car may have crossed an "age" threshold, where vehicles made prior to a certain year are charged a different price.

That made me dig into my State's registration site. Looks like there is a 1 year fee waiver or something. So We're saving $23 on cars and motor homes and about the some on motorcycles. Still not sure why they did it..we are a GOP led state..so this is weird.

We had a bountiful harvest of avocados this year, so now I am all into making gourmet guacamole. Today I added salsa, tomatoes, lemon juice, green Tabasco, and green peas (that's right). Some of the best food you can make without cooking.

While it technically does involve cooking, I have a friend who swears by freshly roasted corn as the secret ingredient in their guacamole.

Smut was not rotted corn when I was growing up. Smut was a fungus growing on the cobs. Really nasty looking too. Looking it up, apparently people do make smut taco's. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Man, I've seen videos of trucks that power their loads over 3-foot-tall barricades from a parked position.

It just seems like that truck was barely stuck... yeah - he would have scratched up his flatbed a bit by flooring it - but a lot less damage than a train.... and of course, that back-hoe on the flatbed costs millions.

A train can only go one way. Two steel rails nailed to the ground. They weigh as much as a ship and cannot stop in much less than a mile. Why do idiots keep challenging them? Is that extra few minutes really worth it?
OTOH I've seen idiot trainmen switching across a major highway for like 10-15 minutes and laughing at the stuck traffic. Right up until this guy got out of his truck with a shotgun and gave them an "adjustment".

I've heard that it's possible to befriend crows so that they see you as an ally. I should look into strategies for offering them food that the squirrels won't get first. (Crows are interesting, but squirrels are dumb assholes.)
My sibling in Seattle has befriended a flock of crows. Feeds them peanuts every day. Since my sibling is a walker, not a driver, now when they walk around there is a flock of crows following them, at least for a certain distance. Crows are territorial, so its only a few blocks in each direction before they stray into some other flocks territory.

New jerk neighbor actually apologized when I started parking in the street to keep his guests from hemming me in.

We'll see if that's meaningful. If he starts showing some awareness of his surrounding and commanding that awareness of his guests then I may revoke my assessment.

They don't technically block egress. They inch right to the edge of either side of the drive and one side is with and SUV. So there is no vision and very little ability to turn after backing out.

That and pissing contests are a losing proposition unless you have something on the line. If I get someone towed then it's likely as not that they are going to try and extract the cost and effort in revenge.

I wish that Firefox had a custom spell-check dictionary for gamers and nerds. Something that includes video game titles, tabletop terms, terms related to certain shows, tech terms, etc.

Instead, it tells me that 'gamers' is misspelled in the previous sentence.

And in the previous sentence as well.

Ive been told many times a word is misspelled only to see that in fact it is not. Just out of pure example say the word is unreasonable ...the spell checker will tell me its wrong and instead off stuff like unreason - able and such.

Also, I am completely incapable of spelling 'misspell' correctly on the first try. I write it correctly, then remember that it is a frequently misspelled word, and that I usually get it wrong, so I correct it - to the wrong spelling.

I do the same thing with restaurant.

I dunno about many times but it's happened enough to be noticeable. It also can figure out some words I'd think it should. Google figures them out as I'm typing them, so I usually treat google as my spell check if right click in FF doesn't do the job and I don't see the problem.

Nope. I am well aware of the correct way to spell them. It's the self-doubt problem. No matter what trick I use to remember it, I remember that I always get it wrong. So I spell it right, then change it to wrong, then doubt that one...

Stupid psychology.

At least I finally broke myself of doing that with calender.

I have the identical problem with maybe a half dozen words. I start with some problem - learn the right answer and even maybe a trick to recall it... but then later when it comes up I will not remember if my little trick was what worked or what was fooling me originally - and I can't remember if what I'm now thinking is really really right, or if I've now corrected myself twice and I'm back to my original mistake. It works (or haunts me) on other things besides just spelling too.

I alwats flub restaurant as resterant . I know theres a U in there someplace lol.....its the way we speak in the south and words are spelled different than the way we say them. "Sound them out" the teacher used to say. Yaaa that doesn't help. Its why I sucked at spelling bees lol.

Also always flub ingredients. ...damn just did again. I usually say it so type it 'ingrediants or ingreadients'.

I've been wondering about prices of "Beyond Meat" and similar products.

For funsies I bought a pack of Beyond Meat jerky. It actually taste remarkably like real beef jerky, similar texture and all. And it's cheaper than real jerky. A 3 oz bag of Beyond jerky is like $4, compared to $5+ for the real thing.

And if I love the food, but the rest of you don't, then: rest a u rant, cause I won't.

In Chicago, we've had thunderstorms in January and then the other night, in February.... that's crazy.
