Re: Random randomness
My weird ear allergy is back. I know it's an allergy because it happens at this time every year.
One of my ear canals is swelling up (and thus closing down). The symptoms are a weird sense that my ear is clogged along with actual loss of hearing (which is what makes me think it's outside the eardrum rather in the eustachian tube). It mostly affects my right ear, although there's a slight effect in the left as well.
If I hold my nose and blow, the ear will open up for a second but then close down again. Use of a Q-tip feels a little tender in the affected ear. I don't believe it's ear wax buildup because it does eventually clear up by itself: history tells me that this will go away in a few weeks when we get past whatever is blooming right now.
Anyone else have this?

I like the zero sugar version of it, although I think I like their cream soda version better.

Opened the dog door this morning. Got up just now to close it. Heard the dog door slamming shut. Yep, my little buddy again. I guess I need to close it before dark.

Our VP of Sales has started a new sales initiative focused on "customer intimacy". Ew. Every time they say it, my skin just kinda crawls.
I get the intent (connecting better with our clients, being less transactional, etc.), but they really need a new name.

Re: Random randomness
Strangely enough, I know exactly what you mean. I have a history of having my right ear blocked by earwax. Doctor once told me my ear canal is small enough that it doesn't always drain properly. But other times I've had it feel exactly the way you describe, and no earwax as far as I could tell, with symptoms going away on their own. I never realized that it could be related to allergies though.Holman wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 5:00 pm My weird ear allergy is back. I know it's an allergy because it happens at this time every year.

I went searching for that book in my shelves yesterday, and realized I have given away or loaned out every copy. No, I am not a library. This particular book I deliberatly had extra copies, so I could loan them out or give them away, but I went a little overboard. Now I have zero copies.
Oh, this is about Bellwether, by Connie Willis.
If you have worked in an office in the past 10 or 15 years, than this book is quite likely to strike your fancy. Its a comedic send up of office life. A scientist type has been hired to find the specific cause and reasoning behind fads, so the company she works for can trigger one and make profit from it. Along the way she suffers from meetings, re-orgs, smoking policies, office admins, and learning that sheep need round pens so they don't get stuck in corners.

Is there a core fee on lawnmower batteries like there is on car batteries? Do I need to take my old one in so I dont get charged or would I look stupid carrying a lawnmower battery into the store for exchange? Last time we bought one was my dad and me in like the early 80s so I have no recall of it.

Re: Random randomness
I'd need to look into your state laws, but typically you're able to return a battery like that to a point of sale retailer and the manufacturer completely pays for collection and recycling. Sometimes they'll offer a small discount on a replacement purchase. In your state? No idea.
EDIT: Yeah, here you go. Basically, don't throw in trash. Maybe consider contacting manufacturer directly or see if a local retailer is collecting them.

The simplest way to confirm and find out for certain would be to use yer phone to call and ask a hardware/auto parts store in your locale about the particular model of battery you need to replace.

I live in Tennessee too. I recently took my dead lawnmower battery to the local county recycling/trash center. They took it with no charge.Daehawk wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 3:40 pm Is there a core fee on lawnmower batteries like there is on car batteries? Re: Random randomness
It actually had its roots in a valid concept, which he took to paranoid, bat-shit crazy extremes. If you sign a contract it is preferable to use blue ink so you know it is an original and not a copy. But he forbade the use of black pens and made us do a purge of all black ink pens in the office. One time we had a subsidiary office that failed and he made a comment to me, "I knew we had a problem when I saw all the black pens."hitbyambulance wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 4:19 pm
i want to hear more about this
(also wondered how Microsoft came to recognize blue as it's 'official' ink color)
Maybe Microsoft is on to something, or maybe they just have paranoid leaders.
