Very tempted to pick them up for Alien Frontiers. But, I really need to cut down.

It is another game I now own, really wanting to get to the table...Ancient Egypt mythology game, in the same vein as Cyclades.
I have Kemet as well, and have it set up at home, and plan to learn it tonight. I've heard really good things.

The only thing that is tough looking to me...is the power tiles. And there are quite a bit of them.

Those rocket dice are really cool... but $40 for dice to cover my copy of Alien Frontiers + Factions is pretty steep, for just a visual upgrade. They already got money from me for the upgrade kit, but that was less money for all those cool domed cities.

Yes, the ship dice look great but the price is just too high. I'm also not convinced these would roll well.

Looking forward to Relic, the WH40K reimagining of Talisman. However, I ordered from Cardhaus (as they are now in New Albany, IN, and closest to me) and they seem to be behind the other major retailers in getting it. Grrrr... why do I stray from MM and Coolstuff?

I saw Relic at my FLGS last night when I stopped in to get some Malifaux stuff. It looks sweet, but I'm a little wary of buying something without seeing a bunch of reviews right now. Although that's not going to stop me from picking up the 51st State/New Era expansion Winter on my way home tonight. I loves me some 51st State style gamin'.

The plan is to go to the FLGS tomorrow to grab a copy of Relic, and hopefully the first Netrunner booster if they have them in stock.

The early reviews for Relic are that it is exactly Talisman reskinned with the 40k universe, but adding caps on stats and programmed leveling per character. If you want Talisman IN SPACE!, then you're golden.

I already have 2 and 3, and I'm holding off on 4 because it sounds like it's more faction-focused like 3, which I don't need at the moment. 1 has the agendas I'd like available for more deckbuilding options.

Ah. I'm more of a gotta have em all kinda guy. Data Pack for is on fedex vehicle for delivery right now.

It's terrible, but for the last 3 months I have had a $100 order from CSI just so I can get the monthly data pack cheap with free shipping.

I'm generally the same way, but I haven't even started to actually get into the deckbuilding aspect of Netrunner, so having all the data packs is just kinda silly. :)

I actually figured out that you can get the data packs for a reasonable price from Amazon with free shipping most times, or from coolstuff, and the shipping isn't bad for a pack by itself.

I would just as soon finally play Talisman again than play Relic, so I'm hoping hepcat passes on it at the FLGS.

Since this thread is the equivalent of Gaming Randomness, I'll share this here:

Cracked's article on 6 Board Games That Ruined It for Everyone, and it includes alternatives each one.

I've always wanted to play Talisman again. Not sure why we haven't in such a long time.

Also wouldn't mind revisiting:

Yeah, the name of this thread has bugged me for a while now. I'd thought about bringing it up, but decided to wait until someone else did (not being a boat rocker by nature.)

I'm of the opinion now that every forum needs a randomness thread. Some are created to purpose a la EBG by Brian, others just fall into the role, as this one has done.

Has anyone tried Airlines Europe? I'm intrigued by it but can't quite pull the trigger. I'm not a big fan of Ticket to Ride, but I do recognize that a lot of people are and I don't mind it horribly. I do love stock games like Acquire and Imperial. I'm hoping this game would fit that middle ground for a semi-gateway game for lighter gamers and a stock game for me.

Is this the game I'm looking for?

I easily spent 5X the amount of time painting the miniatures for Earth Reborn as I have spent actually playing the game. If you figure out what your problem is, let me know. :?

I agree with some of the 6, but I still like Monopoly and Risk. They get a bad rap considering I think they are still decent games. And who doesn't like a little battleship from time to time?! The rest I don't particularly care for and never have.

Played one game of Suburbia with the wife. A lot of potential with that one. I think the more players, the merrier with the interactions between the suburbs.

The Village has about 80 stickers to apply to the meeples and that was not fun. I dislike stickers.

That really was a pain. But it's a great game, so worth the temporary amount of pain.

Picked up FF's Merchants of Venus after finally reading it is for 1-4 players. I needed something besides Zombicide for solo play.

Painting the Zombicide miniatures will take some time. Besides, you can never have too many board games for temptation.

It's fun, flexible, soloable and you get to kill a LOT of zombies.

It's probably the best tactical combat co-op game I have encountered. For the record, I haven't encountered any others. ;)

If that description doesn't appeal to you and the price isn't justified to you by all the minis, then it's not for you. It is undoubtely expensive... and getting more expensive with season 2. The best thing to do is to get someone else in your game group to buy it. ;)

It plays longer than I would prefer and has a couple quirkcs/imbalances (cars), but nobody I have played it with has been disappointed.

Got in a scrap level game of Malifaux on Saturday. As I'm obsessed with the game, I've been spending WAY too much money on it...however, I now have enough to field some decent looking games.

I was able to build a few houses and a gazebo for the table using terraclips and then pepper the playing area with trees from a model railroad set I found at a game store. We decided it was going to be a ghost town.

In Malifaux, you choose your crew, designate the playing area (for example: the ghost town as mentioned above) then draw cards to determine the encounter type for each player. Finally, you select up to two additional schemes (which are basically just regular encounters) that you should try to complete for more victory points at the end of the game. If you announce schemes that have the option of being announced prior to the game, they're worth more VP as that allows you opponent to plan around them.

I was assigned Destroy Evidence which meant I had to slip into Seppe's deployment zone to destroy 3 pieces of evidence represented by specifically placed counters on his side of the table. He got Slaughter which meant he had to kill more of my characters than I did of his.

...I lost horribly.

If I'd played it less like a wargame and more like the tactical skirmish game it is, I might have had a chance. When you have a goal like mine, you don't just rush to the center and get decimated. I should have flanked, used distractions and mobility powers, etc..

Frankly, that's a testament to how great the game is. You have to change your tactics based on your objectives. Since there are numerous objectives you may get when setting up each game, that means you'll rarely play the same way twice.

Can't wait to play again though!

Also picked up the latest expansion for 51st State/New Era called Winter. I like that they've moved away from a "get 30 vp, game over" objective and moved towards a limited number of rounds (6 now). It feels a bit more focused (at least it does from reading the rules). I'm still annoyed they changed iconography between 51st State and New Era to the point where you really can't use both of those base games without having to remember way too many conversion steps, but at least they've not done it a second time with this expansion.

Malifuax - I only won slaughter by two (16-14) so that was close. But as Hepcat said part of the strategy is picking your 'schemes' (side missions for victory points). When i saw he had to travel to my side to get points and my victory points where based on taking out his crew i took a scheme that involved holding the center of the field at the end of the game (since i know he had to come to me).

We are both still learning how to play the game and our particular figures. Hepcat didn't use a key part of his figure (we found this out afterwards) which allows him to slingshot on of his characters to the middle of the field on the first turn.

I have a spell-caster leader while Hepcat has a support leader which takes more work to learn. He also has a leader made to destroy mine, but he has been kind enough to not it (yet).

I think if it did not have a zombie theme it wouldn't sell half as much. I do not think it is a great game. I do not find the decisions to be made interesting. Maybe as a solo game it would be better. Sorry to break Zarathud's heart with this.
