That's the way you do it. You learn the way children learn English.

1. Learn to pronounce words/sound them out.
2. Learn very basic sentences ("See Dick run. Run, Dick, run!")
3. Learn more words.
4. Learn how the other parts of speech work (him, theirs, the, pluralizaing, etc.)
5. Keep getting more complex.

I will tell you now that one thing you don't wan to brush off is word forms, be that gender, declension, verb forms, etc. Learn them as they go, and if they throw terms at you that you don't know (accusative, nominative, etc.), look them up and take the time to understand them. It's one of the more confusing things for English speakers, and you don't want to fall behind the rest of what you're learning. They'll give it to you a little bit at a time, so just take your time and make sure you understand lesson 12 before you do 13.

Der, Die, Das, and Die - OK, I'm with you so far.

Den, Die, Das, and Die - OK, thats a bit different, but I think I've got it

Dem, Der, Dem, and Den - Now hold up, I am pretty sure you told me that der is masculine, whats going on here?

Des, Der, Des, and Der - Holy Frankfurter, I don't even know what genetive means, no wonder German sounds so angry, its from the constant migraine everyone has trying to remember how to say The. I think I'll go do something easy, like learn how to spell in English.
Yup.

On the good news side, after a few beers on a Eurail train to Vienna, neither I nor the Germans I was talking and drinking beers with cared ;)

then once you start learning multiple languages, experience the fun of getting them mixed up

(and the vagarities of inter-country realpolitik.... my first Russian tutor was from Ukraine and she didn't like Germany, so she would always get low-key mad when i would accidentally slip Deutsch in, e.g. "ja" instead of "да")

Theres a woman on YT I watch who is blonde and American but married to a Japanese man and she speaks Chinese, Japanese, and Korean and such. Its fun to watch her catch people speaking about her thinking she cannot understand them and she speaks the languages as well as them lol.

Upstream in this thread there was a discussion of relocating to SE Asia. There are pluses and minuses to all countries, but consideration should be given to the Philippines. You will easily be able to communicate with most people. They often actually enjoy practicing their English with native speakers. Although they will joke that their nose bleeds when they try. :) Because of Douglas MacArthur during WW2, they have a general fondness for Americans. We did save them from the ugliness of the Japanese occupation after all. We had a naval base there for decades. Unlike many countries, most Filipinos actually like Americans.
Thanks for the input, and recommendation. The Philippines is on my short list, and that's the reason I've been watching videos. The weather in Baguio City would certainly suite me, and I like the looks of it.

All 41 workers rescued from collapsed tunnel in India after 17-day ordeal
The laborers – all migrant workers from some of India’s poorest states – have been receiving food, water and oxygen through a 53-meter (173 foot) pipe that has been inserted through the debris and authorities say they remain in good health.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

So noted, I'm probably a confirmed bachelor by now. Several things in my favor.

Very cheap which is never attractive to females in my experience,
don't trust my own judgement in regards to making friends, lovers, or business associates so very likely not to jump too soon,
very set in my ways which are not ways appealing to women,
personality in general which has never seemed to appeal to women.
Overweight and bald, and generally not handsome in the first place.

So I'm probably OK. Although I've seen a few Filipinas stating they like old ugly guys because they think those guys are more likely to be faithful.

Just get a simple double-hinged corkscrew like this -- available from Amazon for $6.03 -- as recommended by The Wirecutter:

Just a few bucks gets you a reliable and easy-to-use manual opener. The double-hinge makes pulling the cork out of a bottle a simple process.

Not by a long shot. Although the screw cap is superior to a cork (which is porous) for both ease of use and product protection, it is still shunned by oenophiles. In the last mixed case of wine I bought -- each bottle priced at $20 or more -- only one bottle had a screw cap. Maybe they're more common on cheap wine. The ideal wine package is said to be the plastic bladder in a box, but as only rotgut wine comes that way I don't think it will ever take off.

The situation might be analogous to beer in cans 10 years ago. Cans are superior to bottles and more convenient, but because they were associated with the cheapest beer it took the craft beer revolution (and better can liners) to shift consumer preference. Ten years ago I turned up my nose at canned beer; now I shun bottles.

Theres a local accident thats been bothering me for a week now because the news each night talks about it and updates it. An out of town couple visiting with their 1 year old boy were walking on the sidewalk in Chattanooga when a drunk driver hit another car then ran over them and hit a building. Full DUI..was belligerent at the scene. Lucky they got him. Stupid damn drunk driver.

Killed the woman and the little 1 year old boy. The man is in critical condition. I cant imagine what his life will be like if he wakes up and makes it and finds out.

All because one dumbass sob had to get behind the wheel when he was drunk. I hope they throw his ass under the jail with a alcohol enema up his ass till dead. Least I want to think that. But I cant. Karma. I cant wish that on even him. But karma will get him sometime some where some how.

You dont lose your mind even when slobbering drunk. Ive been so drunk I couldn't see or walk straight or talk right and would pass out every few hundred feet of walking. Yep as a teen I did that once..ONCE..Blind drunk. But I could still think. I still remember it all that night. I knew what I was thinking but my body wasn't cooperating. My mind was fine my body was not.

So I know that drunks choose to get in their car and drive. I know it isn't the alcohol clouding their senses. They do it on purpose knowing full well they have had too much.

So I dont feel ONE BIT of sympathy for a DUI idiot. Not a bit not one iota. No sir. I wish laws were even harsher than they are. In the 80s there used to be MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. I dont see that now. We need more anti-DUI education, funding, and penalties.

This is just awful that a family came here to have a good day just walking the sidewalks and shopping the stores to be killed in such a useless tragic horrible way by one dumb piece of filth.

When I was a teenager I used to say that I could still drive long after I couldn't walk. Fortunately I didn't learn how wrong I was the hard way. And I mostly got around on a motorcycle back then anyway.

I wish I lived within walking distance of a bar that had clientele I'd find to be decent companions as I won't drive to a bar. I had a nearby bar once, but my sister didn't find my neighborhood acceptable for my mother so I upended my life. Funny thing, that house is around $400,000 now, and I'd bought if for $75.000.

Probably not germane to the incident in Chattanooga but I wouldn't be so sure. The only time I've driven drunk it was clearly the alcohol clouding my judgement. I wasn't blind drunk, stumbling, or having problems. I'd simply been drinking all afternoon while on a Mardi Gras float with a homebrew club. I'd stopped drinking near the end of the route, helped clean up the float and felt fine by the time I went to leave. I got about halfway home when I realized that I really wasn't fine for driving even if I was fine for standing around or even walking home. Luckily the entire trip was less than 10 minutes on back streets.

People make bad decisions fairly regularly.
Drunk people make bad decisions at a much higher rate. Daehawk, with all due respect, is just talking out of his ass here. Sounded drunk, ironically.

That doesn't excuse the drunk driver, but plenty of people make the wrong choice and get away with it. I've done it (in my youth), and it sounds like a lot of us have 'done it'. When a person makes the wrong choice and doesn't get away with it, it's a DUI or Manslaughter.

Came across this little gem last night. Its a sci fi space movie that came out in 1977...the same year as Star Wars. But it looks a decade or more older. Hard to believe they released the same year. 1977

Watch the trailer there on IMDB's site..horrid. lol. And it stars John Richardson.
