2x4s stick out the back with a flag. You can get the plywood cut down as its purpose would be shelf bottoms/sides…possibly the back depending on design. All of those can be cut to fit a car at most stores. It doesn’t need to be pretty if your skill is limited but it can take a load.

Did you try Home Depot? If you just want the old fashioned cheap book shelves they start at about $55 delivered. If you go less traditional they can get less expensive.Blackhawk wrote: Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:07 pm I have a bookshelf that's falling apart (it's a cheap MDF junker.) I'm going to try to reinforce it (despite a serious lack of reasonable guides), but on a whim I went looking. There are still next to zero bookshelves for sale at most places. Books don't exist anymore, so 99% of all 'book shelves' are curio shelves that would hold a couple of dozen books, max. When you do find full-sized shelves online, they're horribly expensive. On a whim I even checked Ikea, even though I knew it was a waste of time. I did find shelves there for $79, which looked decent. Only $250 shipped. I've never seen a company try so hard to be useless to people that don't live nearby.
Sadly, I think the bookshelf market is dead. Not enough people want them to justify stores carrying the affordable ones anymore (I think I paid $25 for mine probably 15 years ago.)

I've also tried Ikea for cheap shelving, desks, etc... and found them to be not even remotely cheap.

‘Steamboat Willie’ Horror Film Announced as Mickey Mouse Enters Public Domain
Steven LaMorte is set to direct an untitled horror-comedy based on Mickey’s cartoon debut. In it, a sadistic mouse will torment a group of unsuspecting ferry passengers. Production is set to begin in the spring.
...
LaMorte previously directed “The Mean One,” a horror parody of the Grinch.
...
In the film, the character will not even be called “Mickey Mouse.” Instead, he will go by “Steamboat Willie.”
...
The announcement follows the release on Monday of a trailer for “Mickey’s Mouse Trap,” another public domain horror-comedy directed by Jamie Bailey. That one, which is set an amusement arcade, appears to already have been shot. In a press release, the filmmakers said they don’t have a release date yet, but expect it to be out sometime in March.

Mickey Mouse-Inspired Horror Game 'Infestation 88' Announced
Nightmare Forge games has announced Infestation 88, a new 1-4 player survival horror co-op game that aims to infuse nostalgia with terror (in the vein of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey) by twisting the now-in-the-public-domain Steamboat Willie into something much scarier. It's in development for PC.
The developers describe it as such: "In the year 1988, what was thought to be an outbreak of rodents in various locations morphed into something far more sinister." Sometimes you'll need to fight, sometimes you'll need to run, and sometimes you'll need to hide in a locker. You can set traps and utilize CCTV cameras to try and stay one step ahead of the infestation, and item layouts are randomized in order to help keep matches fresh.

Correct...only this very specific appearance of the mouse is in public domain now. The more recent look of Mickey Mouse as most of the world knows him is still protected for quite a few years.Blackhawk wrote:As far as I know, Mickey Mouse has not entered the public domain - only Steamboat Willie.

Re: Random randomness
The Evolution of Mickey Mouse
As for Mickey’s shoes, his trademark footwear is introduced in the second Mickey cartoon produced, The Gallopin’ Gaucho (1928), and has stayed with him almost ever since. But when did Mickey’s gloves come into play? In the 1929 cartoon, The Opry House, the gloves made their debut appearance as part of his stage costume, but had the added effect of distinguishing his hands from his body. His trademark gloves became a permanent fixture in the following short, When the Cat’s Away (1929), and has remained part of his design ever since. Of course, Mickey’s face was subject to some changes, too. Unlike Plane Crazy, where his eyes occupy almost his entire face, in Steamboat Willie his eyes were redesigned as small, black ovals giving Mickey a greater range of facial expression.
Starting in 1929, the era of “pie-eyed” Mickey Mouse came to be. “Pie-cut eyes” were mostly used in print cartoons, while the animated shorts showed Mickey with the earlier-mentioned black oval eyes. This was part of the “Inkblot Cartoon Style”, which was a very common principle of character design during the 1930s and not something typical of modern animation (with the exception of some of the newest Mickey Mouse shorts).
...
With Walt’s ever-growing success and determination to keep up with the industry, a special cartoon featuring Mickey Mouse was created in color in 1932: Parade of the Award Nominees. This cartoon was never released to the public as it was created exclusively for the 5th Academy Award® ceremony. Therefore, The Band Concert (1935) was the first standard Mickey Mouse cartoon made in color.

Anyone notice how chewy and rubbery frozen sandwich's meats and especially bread is? Doesn't matter if its a sausage and biscuit or a ham and croissant. The bread is tough to eat because its a bit rubbery. Its soft and tasty but man. Ive been eating a load of these type sandwiches thanks to that delivery mixup and no matter the type of food or the brand name they are the same way.
im wondering if its because they have to be frozen or if its because they get moist when reheating. maybe normal bread would just become soggy.

My understanding is it's because whatever moisture was present initially has now frozen and formed ice crystals. You are now microwaving it, and the ice crystals melt with the water having nowhere to go but get re-absorbed into the bread. So it gets soggy. Microwaving at lower power levels, flipping it halfway through, or wrapping it in a paper towel (which tends to whisk moisture away) might help but it won't fix it 100%.

I try not to microwave much because of what it does to food. That same not so great food is usually much better from an oven or toaster oven. I have the patience to wait 20 minutes or whatever for a better tasting and textured food. Texture in food is crazy important to me.

This too. But he was talking frozen foods. A perfect example for me is I like Pizza fresh. I like pizza that's been sitting on the table for an hour. I like pizza out of the fridge. I like pizza warmed in the oven. I don't do pizza reheated in the microwave exactly because of the rubbery texture dea doesn't like from frozen sandwiches.Holman wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 6:35 pmOn the other hand, I've been know to eat leftovers cold rather than wait even for the microwave.LordMortis wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 5:55 pm I try not to microwave much because of what it does to food. Re: Random randomness
Kotaku reports that the developers claim to have no idea that 88 had any significance.
It looks like they've already changed the name to "Infestation: Origins" on Steam. Between the Steamboat Willie gimmick and the they-might-be-nazis kerfluffle, they certainly are getting a lot of free publicity. So they've got that going for them. Our game is set in the 1980s, with the year 1988 being chosen simply for its symmetrical design in our game’s artwork. Therefore, the 88 strictly represents the year 1988; no additional connotations are intended. We are in the process of revising this artwork to clarify the abbreviation, as shown in the image below. Should there still be concerns, we’re open to changing the game’s name.

I have a 80 gallon bin and it goes to the curb when it get stinky. Or about twice during winter. I do the recycling 80 gallon recycling bin about once a month. I'm not sure why I bother. I've walked the neighborhood enough of recycling day to know that every load is contaminated to the point that it's really just garbage by the time they empty the truck.

How different things are in some places. We easily fill a 95 gallon every week. The only recycling we had around here literally fired the city - cancelled the contract - five or six years ago when people wouldn't stop using the curbside recycling bins as an extra trash can. The only place to get rid of old appliances is a about a 150 mile round trip with a very steep fee (so most people just throw things like air conditioners in the trash.).
Hell, our storage room has old mattresses in it that we simply have no way to get rid of.

Must be because no one in store will buy them and they want to get rid of them for money instead of trashing them. Ive not complained or returned anything ...yet. One items I will refuse is a sharply dented can. I taught at a young age a dented can is fine as long as the dent is sharp...like a fine deep dent. That can compromise the can interior or lining.

It's all relative. That would not bring joy to many in the Philippines who depend on scavenging.Unagi wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 1:59 pmwell, honestly - good for them! If there is nothing else wrong with the product, at least they are forcing it to be used instead of just going into a landfill.Daehawk wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 1:34 pm Also Walmart employees who shop for your groceries. I think they must be trained or told to pick damaged items off the shelves to send to online orders. Must be because no one in store will buy them and they want to get rid of them for money instead of trashing them. I get so many items that are dented, bent, and with labels stuck anywhere but where they should be.

Re: Random randomness
We are down to about one kitchen trash bag a week which gets the cat litter and the little trash cans emptied into it before it goes out. It feels a little weird to roll the big can out to the street with one kitchen trash bag in it but we've been told that they won't take it if you simply leave a bag beside the street. Plus we are rolling the can less than 10 feet so it might be silly but it isn't much effort!hitbyambulance wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 12:18 am i think i generate one bag of garbage like every... three months. recycling takes care of 80%+ and compost another 10% of my trash.

What do you mean the right-click way doesn't work? If there's a "Copy" option in the right-click menu, then it works. There are some sites that block that option to prevent people from stealing their content but then it would give you a message when you tried to copy it.Daehawk wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 2:35 pm All the WIKI sites have started to annoy me. You cant simply highlight a word or phrase then right click to copy it . You have to highlight and use ctrl-c. I never remember that and use my old highlight and right click...then it hits me i cant and i try ctrl-c..and of course that wont work with my right click menu open. So then i close it and do it right...three tries....every time..lol.
Wonder why the rightclick way doesn't work?

Re: Random randomness
also there are grocery stores here (in Seattle) that have a 'plastic bag/film' recycling bin that i will occasionally drop plastic wrappers/mailers/shrinkwrap/etc off at, once i have a critical mass accumulated. that takes care of sooooo much garbage (as to what actually happens with the plastic on the other end, i'm assured it gets taken care of as best as it can: https://kingcounty.gov/en/legacy/depts/ ... ling-pilot )
The clean and dry plastics accepted include plastic bags for groceries, produce, bread, dry cleaning, newspapers, and food storage – even sealable food bags with “zippers” – along with e-commerce packaging such as plastic mailers, bubble wrap, and shipping pillows; plastic wraps from beverage cases, diapers, bathroom tissue, and paper towels. These are items that can confuse people who often incorrectly toss them in recycling bins at home.

Solid wood, or "realwood" bookshelves are on the expensive side. 100-200 for short ones 200 and up for the tall ones. All the bookshelves in the affordable price range are some sort of manufactured wood, usually with that mysterious "22 pound" capacity.
If you are looking for function over form, thare is the old standbye of brick and planks.
Bricks are around 3 or 5 dollars each. can get 6 foot long boards for about 15 each. those prices vary depending on your store and location. a 6 foot board will fit in most cars. If not, you can get 8 foot boards, and the store will cut them into 4 foot for no charge.
Sand the ends and edges to prevent splinters, and you are good to go.

On all WIKI pages when you right click the COPY is greyed out and does not work. But ctrl-C still does.gilraen wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 2:58 pmWhat do you mean the right-click way doesn't work? Re: Random randomness
And if you do come across a site that seems to block copying via the right-click or context menu? You can use the NoScript browser plugin to (temporarily) block JavaScript on that site, which should restore normal copy and paste functionality. Alternatively, if you use the uBlock Origin adblocker, you can just click this symbol "to disable JavaScript on this site":gilraen wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 2:58 pmWhat do you mean the right-click way doesn't work?
