Alright...but you need to open the box when you get it instead of letting it sit somewhere for a long period of time. I cramp up easily if I stay in the same position for too long.

So, as a brief side discussion, where does everyone play boardgames? I have a coffee table, and a gaming board topper that I use for RPGs, but I'm finding that it is just too low for boardgames. In an RPG, everyone is sitting back relaxing, only leaning up to roll dice every now and then. For board games, everyone has to lean up to the table (which is still the height of a coffee table), and it absolutely kills your back after an hour or two.

I've thought about getting a card table, but I can't see how it would be big enough for a lot of games. No, the topper wouldn't fit - a ~3.5'x7.5' topper on a wobbly 34" square table would be a recipe for disaster.

And before you ask, I don't have a dining room. The last time I had a dining room was 1996.

Currently using my dining room table. As soon as my kitchen remodel is done, I'm redoing my gaming room in the basement and getting a new table.

Right now my gaming table in the basement is an old cafeteria table (as in really old, heavy wood table) that's 8 feet long, and it has a gaming table top on it that's basically a 4x8 sheet of plywood painted blue (for hypothetical naval battles) with a lip around the edge. That table is WAY too big for it's own good. Any mini's gaming we do we're doing on a max of 4X4 tables now.

So I'm thinking about buying something like this table. Round for smaller boardgames, and expandable to almost 4x6 for the larger games.

Played Battlestar Galactica with the Cylon Fleet Board (Exodus expansion). It was a 4-player game, and I removed the Sympathiser card; I don't like those mechanics at all. So we had 8 non-cylon cards and 1 cylon card in the Loyalty deck (Exodus rules add 1 non-cylon card to the deck to prevent problems when executing characters).

We won easily, and - off course - the only remaining Loyalty card was the Cylon one. So we had no traitors at all. It was a pretty boring game, and it shows you really need a cylon to spice things up.

I've also played a game of Star Wars the card game (core set), and I really liked the feel of that game. It was fast and bloody, with many meaningful choices. It was a very pleasant surprise, and when the multiplayer rules become available I'm sure it'll be a hit with my group.

Kitchen table for most stuff. Pool table for stuff I might need to leave out or if the kitchen table is occupied. Pool table is a play standing up only back killer, but when it's the only choice you have, you deal with it. I play on the floor with the kids a lot since they can't reach stuff on either table. We play on the carpet upstairs which isn't optimal, but the dogs don't often wander upstairs (they are old) so it minimizes the chances they will disrupt us. If we need a flat surface (pitch car mini) we'll play on the floor level, but on a card table with the legs folded under. We do have a small (2.5x4 maybe) train table that's about coffee table height that we could use with the kids, but it's generally covered with toys.

To answer your question directly, all over the place.

The room that I would call the game room has nothing but shelves half for board games and half for storage. I would love to get a table in there for gaming but it's ruled by legos and geotrax at the moment.

I have a 'table' I built out of 2 sheets of plywood and 2X4's. It was supposed to be a workbench at one time, but then I turned it into a gaming table full time in the basement. I also have some folding tables to help out if I get a large group of people playing some miniatures games.

When I am watching my kids and playing games, we play in the dining room, or the living room on the folding tables. I have a 2x6 and 2x8 folding table for that purpose.

The 4X8 table that I built is where I game mostly, as I have put recessed lighting and some florescence lighting to ensure illumination. We play pathfinder and other RPG's there on a monthly basis. The ceiling in the basement is a little low, but it is dry and cool in the summer and fairly warm in the winter(I have a heater for the winter months).

I'll take some pictures and post them if I get a chance.

I was at a Lowes yesterday for some supplies I needed for the company server room when I spied the lumber aisle across the store. I suddenly had a brilliant idea that I would purchase a 4x4 piece of plywood to put over my smaller kitchen table for miniature gaming.

Now I realize I'm actually the last damn person on earth to think of this.

Mostly at the kitchen table, it's a little less than 4'x8' and big enough for nearly everything. The downside to that is our kitchen is central in the house, and games can't stay on the kitchen table for long due to meals and other activities.

We've also played on a smaller folding card table in the basement, this works for many of our games. Larger games don't work though. At some point I will buy or build a larger gaming table for the basement, once I get enough space cleared out there for regular gaming. We really need a table where we can set up a game and leave it out for multiple days.

I think I need to invest in a bigger house.

Friendly local game store, at a local bar or hepcat's tiny table. Occasionally on my nice large kitchen table when kids are away. Having toddlers with early bedtimes makes it hard to gather at my place.

Dig a basement. Or expand over into your neighbors yard....

I have three dining room size tables to play on, as well as two 6 person patio tables and a 4 person table. I run a meetup so I basically kept all the tables I had between my house and my mom's house (she passed away and I moved in).

Actually, I wonder if I could get away with storing the coffee table and putting a dining room table in the living room? Hmm...

I'd thought of that, but the large folding tables I've seen are expensive, and the 'height enhancers' take up a lot of space. My house is small enough that bringing something new in usually means taking something else out.

Height could come from something as simple as cinder blocks. I don't know about stability.

You could build it so the legs fold and it's just a long board.

Hmm. I will look into that. Maybe I've been checking the wrong Walmarts - mine have smaller tables for higher prices. As for building my own - that isn't very likely. I have zero ability when it comes to carpentry.

I bought one of those bad boys a year or so ago for some gaming at my place. The only problem is that width wise, it's only around 2 and a half foot. Doesn't work for miniature gaming or games that require large player tableaus while playing, but it's okay for most other gaming needs. I actually unfold mine and have it to the side for snacks and stat cards and dice rolling when playing minis.

Coworkers have seem then as cheap as $30 at WalMart. I don't shop there so I don't know.

I have two folding tables at home and they're great. As set of two is great for largish games and you can configure them in to a large taple, an L, or a T depending on your needs. If you refuse to shop at WalMart, like I do and you have a CostCo membership you can get some fairly high quality (but still plastic) folding tables for $50. I got a couple for workbenches here at work.

Yep I sue the two folding tables I have to create a 6 foot by 5 foot area. Leaves some room for books and whatnot not on the playing surface, and I use a very thin reflective tape to mask off the play area. Comes off very easy from the tables, and windex cleans and sticky residue.(From the tape Hepcat...)

So the board game thread is now the thread about boards to put on your table, huh?

The good news is that, as an experiment, I've replaced my coffee table with a dining room table. In the living room. A living room table.

That means a decent place to eat that doesn't involve sitting on the floor. It means that when playing games with kids and friends, I no longer have to spend an hour and a half bending over a sub-knee height table, causing my spine to try and crawl out through my cortex.

The bad news is that all my chairs are now too short.

So we're remodeling our kitchen, a complete rebuild. And we're having a rough time settling on a backsplash. Tonight, my wife hits me with the idea of going to a thrift shop, buying a bunch of old cheap boardgames, and cutting up the boxes and boards and putting them up on the wall for a backsplash. I told her even I'm not that crazy.
