Maybe there are places (such as apartment complex roofs) where that makes sense, but that's one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard of.

It was a 60-gallon drum so the water weighed a lot when it was full, but not enough to drive a hose. I only used it to fill a watering can for some potted herbs, and I left it behind when we moved. It would've had marginal value if we lived in a dry climate, but (current flash drought notwithstanding) we don't.
Collecting it does have the value of limiting heavy run-off from the downspout across the flower beds.

From what I recall, such laws are typically meant to prevent private interests from diverting significant amounts of runoff into private reservoirs and screwing up the watershed at scale rather than being about homeowners with rain barrels.

My uncle was once fined by the county EPA for altering the shoreline on a pond that qualified as lowlands/wetlands on his farm. The pond was the remnants of a dirt/gravel pit from his topsoil business from the years before the county staffed its EPA division. We joked it wouldn’t help to point out to the government inspector that he should be credited for creating the lowland/wetland area in the first place.

Got my Walmart grocery order today. Came with a free box of store brand saltine crackers. That I didn't order or pay for or need. Maybe I could make a list they could pick a free item from and send me with each order. Something I might need. Be handier. But crackers. ...suppose they saw I ordered 4 cans of Chunky soup and suspected I needed them. Or they are just have a cracker abundance right now and all the crackers are coming ripe at the same time so better to share than toss. But ya..free crackers. :)

My wife orders from Food Lion pickup so much that she has a "guy." He knows her and always grabs her orders when they come in. He's great at finding good substitutions, and has good recommendations if he finds out we're making chili or something. It's nice to have an employee like that looking out - he's never let us down.

I forget how many years ago it was that I tried Burger King, but the enduring memory I have is that the Whopper was excessively moist for my liking.

The ad said, "If it doesn't get all over the place, it doesn't belong in your face!"

I dislike the wet mess that it is also. That's why when I do go to BK, I ask for no ketchup and light mayo on the Whopper. Then it's not bad.

And if you like those toppings on your burger, ask for packets and put on the amount you want.

I’ve only eaten at Burger King a few times, and it’s been mediocre to bad every time.

Burger King advertises constantly during college football season. One random Saturday last year, their “chicken parm sandwich” looked good in the ad so I figured I’d go try it out. They had to have gotten better in the 10 years since I last tried them, right?

I’m not exaggerating when I say that was the most awful fast food item I have ever put into my mouth. It smelled awful and somehow tasted even worse. Took two bites, chucked it in the trash because it was turning my stomach, and went somewhere else.

This ends my once-a-decade attempt at eating Burger King.

When I was a teen I loved their bacon double cheeseburger. Either it or I have long since changed. I haven't been there since before times when I wasn't really seriously calorie conscious and croisandwich coupons or their five for $3 meal were just fine for what they were.

Burger King is not great. But to be fair, it's a minimum wage fast food joint - it's entirely possible to have two BKs (or McDs, or Wendy's, or...) in the same town and have one be of consistently and considerably better quality than the other. Trying it once isn't really meaningful.

Yeah I know that's part of my problem - we only have two Burger Kings in town and both are awful. I have been to Burger Kings out of town on road trips that were at least passable.

Still, I kind of have to fault corporate if they can't keep their franchises at a consistent quality level. I never see that problem with McDonalds or Chick-Fil-A.

Bojangles is another one where I see wildly varying consistency. We have the "good" Bojangles and then we have a couple of bad ones. We also have a good Wendy's and a bad Wendy's.

We've found ourselves going to BK more often (which still isn't a lot) than McD anymore.

McDonalds has gotten ridiculously expensive and all the ones in our area have replaced cashiers with automated kiosks. They don't even have registers in the lobby anymore.
The food has declined while getting more costly and counter to common theory, using a kiosk takes WAY longer to place an order.
The only reason to go to McD for me is their breakfast which is still OK and their fries which, let's be honest, have a 30 second window when they are the best fast food fries but once they go lukewarm they are absolute dog shit.

BK fries are awful from the start so I never bother with them. An easy double cheeseburger and an order of chicken fries does the trick for me.

We do McDs quite often (couple times a month) but only drive through. Self-checkout kiosks are the devil, especially with kids that are picky eaters. I wouldn’t say I like their food, per se, but find it tolerable. I do like the fact that there’s consistency and every McDs will be exactly the same.

I do like their breakfast stuff but can only ewt it about once a month. Pretty sure there’s more grease in one of their bacon egg & cheese biscuits than I typically eat in several weeks.

We’ve started doing Wendy’s more often as well. They used to be awful, but both of the ones close to us have improved significantly over the past 6 months.
