Not out to get them. The media is out to profit off them. And it's working.

I don't watch CNN often but it's on at the gym so I listen to music and read the closed captioning today. The ridiculous minutiae that they go on about...showing Trump's walkthrough for his speech today? A plane crashed into a house in Joliet around the same time, there are purges in Turkey, etc, etc, but they're on and on about the mic checks and secret service at the Convention like we're watching a Madonna concert tour movie. I mean WTF but I'm sure they're getting a ton of eyeballs. I was especially shocked to see Wolf Blitzer's show is called Wolf Grille or something like that, with a set that I'd expect to see on ESPN or a local Cubs talk show. It's all about entertainment.

Likewise, a kindhearted or informative article about a candidate's wife's business is boring (but "better" than nothing in terms of cheap eyeballs). But an article ridiculing her business will get a ton of views.

It really is mock-worthy, you have to admit.

The whole point of writing an article is so people read it. When I was reviewing computer/video games, I often had to review games that probably nobody but the developer's mother would buy. So I could waste my time and do nothing to profit my employer by writing a "kindhearted" article skimming over the game's failings, or I could give it an over-the-top beatdown. Guess which style got the best response?

This particular article made me laugh, were I assigned to write it, I'd have been just as merciless. It is such a ridiculous thing that, if there are indeed people who have this problem that is solved by these trinkets, I'd go out of my way just to irritate them.

Anyway i doubt he files suit because it was all bullshit anyway. Our potential future President is just an insecure jackass who defends his every crazy thought like a Youtube commenter.

He's like the anti-ivory tower elite, except he's also no friend of the working man and in fact does his best to screw anyone near him, but especially the working man. His entire business history is littered with unpaid invoices from small businesses, daring them to sue him for the money he owes them.

He literally steals from the people screaming his name at the convention. God he's human garbage.

Trump took his post-convention press conference today and used it to lash out at Ted Cruz:
"Somebody got booed the hell out of a place by thousands and thousands of people," Trump said. "There wasn't one person in the room -- not one. And then they said there may not be unity. Unity? There wasn't one person in the room, including the Texas delegation, right? Honestly, he may have ruined his political career. I feel so badly. I feel so badly."

As bad as he claimed to feel, Trump made it clear he does not need Cruz on his side to win the presidency.

"You know, he'll come and endorse over the next little while," he said. "He'll — because he has no choice. But I don't want his endorsement. What difference does it make? And I don't want his endorsement. I have such great -- I don't want his endorsement. Just -- Ted, stay home, relax, enjoy yourself."

"Again, I don't want his endorsement," he said. "If he gives it, I will not accept it. Just so you understand. If he gives it -- I will not accept it."

The real estate mogul then circled back to old Cruz insults that have gotten him in trouble, from the conspiracy theory that Cruz's father was somehow involved with JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald to a meme he retweeted mocking Heidi Cruz's appearance. Trump also said that the National Enquirer, which published the bizarre and totally unsubstantiated story about Rafael Cruz and Oswald, should win a Pulitzer Prize.

Keeping the attacks against Cruz coming, Trump claimed that the Texas senator went off of his prepared "boring" remarks to make his anti-Trump stand on the RNC stage. The businessman said that was a betrayal.

"(He) made a statement that wasn't on the speech and then went back to his speech," he said. "See, to me, that's dishonorable. To me, not signing a pledge is dishonorable, okay? It's dishonorable. Not a nice thing to do. And I talk this way, because we're all together."
I'm just thankful he didn't have his finger on the button. Has anyone this thin-skinned ever gotten this far?

I don't understand why anyone would even consider the possibility that Cruz would endorse him after those attacks. I hate Cruz as much as the next guy, but damn. If someone accused my father of helping assassinate JFK and made fun of my wife's appearance, I'd have been a hell of a lot less civil than Cruz was.

And speaking of which, we're at the point in American politics where spouse appearance is fair game? All the anti-bullying rhetoric we push in schools, and this is the guy we nominate to be President. :grund:

The people endorsing him are on the opposite side of the anti-bullying campaign. And I'm sure it's not because they're bastions of First Amendment defenders.

I have this sneaking suspicion that Cruz is going to ride this through though. Back off and pull a Palin. Stay near political power, but only as a commentator/pundit for the duration of Trump or Hillary's term. Sticking to his guns may show those conservatives that aren't fans of Trump that Cruz is a man of integrity in a sea of sell outs no matter who wins.

And if Trump DOES win, he'll inevitably go down in history as the worst goddamn president the U.S. has ever had...probably within an hour of the swearing in, to be honest. Then Cruz just rides back into Washington in a knight's armor and pronounces himself the king of the land of I Told You So.

I'm normally not very Machiavellian, but I can't get over the feeling that both Cruz and Trump worked together for that little bit of political theater with Cruz setting himself up as the lone conscience for 2020 if Trump loses while Trump uses Cruz as a focal point for old guard GOP criticism for the current election.

Even on Celebrity Apprentice, I thought Ivanka totally destroyed her dad in terms of asking really interesting questions, pushing buttons, and coming to the correct conclusions. Of all the people on the other side of the boardroom, her take on the results of the challenges was always the one I most looked forward to.

I didn't watch it long, and I'm sure I didn't know her relationship to Trump for most of it, but I agree. I haven't watched her during Trump's campaign but she was solid on the show. She seemed to take the role of judge seriously and had grown up things to say. Trump would say stupid things, but I was still naive enough about reality TV at the time that I didn't realize things were scripted, edited and drama instigated for ratings.

Yeah, I can be very naive.

Why won't Donald Trump release his income tax returns? Perhaps it's the involvement of four Trump-licensed real estate developments at the center of a $250 million income tax evasion scheme. Trump is at least a material witness to the 2010 lawsuit on behalf of New York taxpayers unsealed last week.

The Trump family alone would save $7.1 billion in taxes from the proposed repeal of the Federal estate tax -- if Trump's estimate of his current net worth of $10 billion is true (assuming a conservative 4.2% aftertax rate of return through his actuarial life expectancy of 2030).

It was pretty popular in 1930's Germany too.
