Wow, I hope they put together a Cthulhu expansion for that one too! Although I guess Huey could just use The Power of Love. That would make for a short game.

Got in 3 great games of Lost Cities over lunch today. Still one of my favorite lite 2 player games. Plays quick, and lots of agonizing decisions to make.

That's an odd choice for a game's subject. How's that work?
You play the leader of a band trying to make it big in the 80s, trying to use the new medium of "music videos" to land the big record contract. Beware the "drug and too much partying card" which will add to your stress. The campaign takes place in the 80s but look for the upcoming expansion where you try and make a comeback in the 21st century to an aging nostalgic yet has disposable income audience along with trying to be relevant to the younger crowd. Fight your way from small fairground venues to larger clubs and perhaps a supertour with groups Crowded House and The Outfield.
Interesting. I hadn't heard The News, yet.

BTW, you bastards just got me to spend on Pathfinder and Navajo Wars. BASTARDS! Thankfully I made both room and money by selling some of my unplayed games on eBay.

It's funny, I'll sell off a couple of games on BGG and make a decent amount of money, use that to buy a new game I want, and I still feel guilty about it.

I'm the same way. However, every time I see another increase in the price of cigarettes, I realize that I'm now spending less than that per month AND the hobby isn't killing me slowly.

That really sucks -- I've had mine for weeks now.

Does Fantasy Flight really have a QC problem? I've learned to not buy their games when they're released as they're seemingly loaded with printing errors on both the materials and the manuals. So I figured 2 years (!) after it was released, maybe buying the core set for the Lord of the Rings card game would mean I'd get an updated, fixed edition. Sure enough, the box indicates it was printed in February of 2013 -- awesome. And then I go to the FF website and see they issued a FAQ / Errata document in February of 2013...to address errors in the manual and printed cards. Are you f-ing kidding me??

I know, that's the main issue...all the new game glow is gone now as you guys in the States have had it since forever it feels like. There's even reports that there are stores here in Canada selling it. I have pretty much decided I'm not backing anything else from TMG (or as I call them The Missing Game) unless they actually use a company other than PSI for shipping. They don't even send shipping notices, told us they had shipped us the game prior to GenCon (International backers), then told us after GenCon that "Ooops, PSI wasn't sure what to do and since we were all at GenCon we couldn't do help, but it will ship tomorrow". Then when we asked for confirmation whether or not it shipped we never got a response. For. Six. Days. We probably wouldn't have gotten one then except we discovered a thread he started on Boardgamegeeks touting his own horn regarding how awesome his customer service was. So, we ganged up on him there and low and behold he updated us the next day. Been nothing since when there were daily (almost hourly) updates up to when the US backers got there shipments sent.

As for FFG, yeah, I don't think I have gotten anything from them that didn't have a lot of errata.

A good week of gaming so far. Last week I played zombicide to death. My family was in town and my brothers love it so we played it at least 6 to seven times. Still really enjoying it. Our win percentage has significantly increased with the new zombivore rules but everyone seems to be enjoying it just as much so I don't mind. Still lots of stressful moments when playing and a fair number of losses. The new zombie types are great. Can't wait for the dogs!

Also played a couple of games of krosmaster arena since all my kickstarter pieces have arrived. Starting to like this game more and more but it still isn't my favorite. I may have obedient on this one. I'm debating if I should list my resin tokens, terrain and double promo characters on Ebay to make up some of the expense since I'm not sure how often it will hit the table.

Played a lot of love letters in short down periods between games this week too. Always a great game. All in all a good amount of gaming this week. Can't wait for xwing wave three to arrive next week...

I'm having such the dilemma.

I've got an old text book that I'm trading back in to Amazon for $55 in credit. I've also got Arkham Horror, Princes of Florence, D&D: Ravenloft, Stronghold, and Ghost Stories that I'm looking to get rid of, and my FLGS has offered $67 for the batch of games.

My thinking right now is to take the $67 in FLGS monies and wait for Crusoe to come back in stock, then use the $55 in Amazon monies to put toward Pathfinder and the first expansion. The Amazon prices aren't super great, but they're okay, and they're in stock. I don't know when Crusoe will be back in stock there, or how much it'll be when it is.

I could also reverse that plan (Crusoe through amazon, Pathfinder at the FLGS). Alternately, I could just try and sell the games here or on BGG, but who knows how long that'd take. Decisions! :horse:

I'm really looking to unload a bunch of boardgames too, but I don't think I have a LGS selling option...which means dealing with eBay...which doesn't really seem ideal. Once you start looking into the shipping costs for some of these games, I really do wonder how Amazon makes any money. :)

I usually do a small purge at the auction held at Origins each spring, but after the screw ups they had last time, I think I'm going to do it via bgg or ebay...preferably bgg. I really do need to do a larger purge though. I've got a ton of games I really don't see myself playing ever again...and god knows I need the closet space for all the new ones!

...such a vicious cycle.

Amazon doesn't pay a fraction of what you do for shipping. I get my corp discount (not amazon but we send a lot of stuff in our own. at one time we were the usps second largest customer after the govt) on shipping and it can be up to 70% off for the faster shipping options. Depending on weight/size next day can be cheaper than ground.

I want to get rid of a bunch of games myself, but really don't want to be bothered shipping them. I guess I can donate them to the in-law's church for their next "garage sale."

This is why I generally prefer roleplaying games. One book = hundreds of different hours of gaming and nowadays, that book is often on my tablet in pdf form so it doesn't take up any room. That said, I too have too many boardgames for the space I have :)

The listing and shipping is a major motivator to go with selling them to my FLGS instead of on BGG. If I was going to a convention, I'd try and get in on a no-ship math trade, but I don't have any of those on the horizon.

If you're willing to be patient, it's hard to beat selling boardgames on the BGG Marketplace. I started selling games out of my collection last September, and in the year since then I've sold 15 games for a total of $393. Every buyer has paid for shipping (usually around $10) and the only cost to me is the extra gas to swing by the Post Office and drop it off. With online postage options, shipping USPS is super convenient.

Typically I'll price games at the bottom end of the Marketplace prices, which tends to be $5-$10 below OLGS prices for a new copy. I keep my games in like-new condition so I feel justified offering at that price. I have a few that have been up for sale for that entire year, but many of them will sell within a few days of being posted.

If you can't wait, then BGG auctions are another option, and will probably get you better response than eBay auctions.

I've had fabulous luck selling off old boardgames at local conventions. Two years ago I purged about 15 games and took in $350. Enough to pay for my banjo. Now there was a good investment.

(Side note: All those smilies, and no banjo playing ones? For shame...)

Good to know that BGG is an option. I took a look through the marketplace, and the problem is that all of the ones I'm looking to ditch have a ton of listings. I don't know that I'm that patient. ;)

Maybe I'll try listing them on BGG with BGGCON delivery only when we're closer to the con... that or just donate them somewhere. It's way more about the space than the money.

It's a hassle, but you could always run an auction. Something about the psychology of bidding gets people throwing money at games that they wouldn't have thought to look up on the Marketplace.

I rather like that board games are the type of commodity that tend to hold their value well. If something goes out of print, it often increases. The added bonus of BGG is that it encompasses almost the entire world demographic that you're trying to sell games to.

Business Day #9 (they said it should arrive within 6-9 business days) after they claimed they shipped it. Still not here. Desire to play it has pretty much faded by now. Oh well.

I think if I had just one game to sell, I might try it. With even five, I don't know that I want to go through the hassle. Especially since all the games were bought years and years ago, so they're basically a sunk cost, and any return on them is okay. I'd really just like to free up the shelf space, and I can't see myself playing these again.

The book that I had to buy for the film class I took over the summer (which we had to read exactly 2 chapters from, and paid $90 for). What's annoying is that the trade in price a few weeks ago was $70, but I procrastinated about sending it in, and now it's only $55. :(

That would make sense. I'm sure, by comparison, that people are chomping at the bit to pay $50 for a nearly decade old highlighted law textbook, right?

When I'm trying to move a bunch of games, I do auctions on BGG. I'll only auction up to 10 games at a time, otherwise the logistics gets too overwhelming for me. I've been very happy with auctioning there, and you only have to pay a 3% fee to BGG. No fee just for listing either.

Chaz, if those games are in good condition, I think you might be selling yourself short selling five games for $67. Let me put it this way, you can probably get $30+ for Stronghold alone on eBay. What you need to do is to get the flat-rate Medium Priority Shipping boxes from the USPS. You can order them (for free) in lots or pick them up at your local USPS. Then, you set your shipping price on ebay to a cool $12.50 - ship anywhere in the US (beauty of flat rate). You can also have the USPS do an at-home pickup of your boxes by "Scheduling a Pickup" on the USPS website. Easy-peasey.

Ebay is also good if you have no patience. You set the time limit to 7 days, you can set the starting price fairly low ($15-20 on those games) and watch the magic happen. What I do is set the starting bid at around $15-20 less than the Amazon new price. As far as the description and listing - I just do a short description of the game's condition, upload two pictures (one of box, one of stuff inside) and then copy-paste the game description off BGG.

A key element, after you list on eBay, you can cross-list that eBay auction on BGG. All you need to do is copy the auction number (given to you after you list) and paste it into the auction lookup on BGG.

It might be a slight extra hassle, but you will likely make another $40+.

Well, there's a possibility that I may be able to sell two of them to a guy at work for $25 each. If I can do that, then I'll be perfectly happy selling the rest to the game store.

Finished the Mice & Mystics miniatures and added some paint-on sealant two hours before we started. A hairdryer helped get everything dry in time.

My 2 girls (4 and 6) played with me, my sister and her boyfriend in a run through the long intro scenario. Things worked out well even though I messed up a few rules. My sister and her boyfriend were surprised that rolling lots of dice ended up advancing the cheese track more quickly (which sunk us quickly). We ended up rushed for time and skipped the Kitchen despite the kids wanting to visit. My youngest decided after a while that she didn't like the fighting as much as stealing everyone's cheese tokens to make "cheese pizzas." We made it to the final tree with our Wild Mystic risking death from the Raven, with just a little time left. We'll try again, but my youngest isn't going to have the attention.

Great day of gaming on Saturday with the family. Started out with a game of Robinson Crusoe, still on the basic "Castaways" scenario. We managed to win on the final turn of the game, and surprisingly surviving was never really an issue. We had little trouble with health, it was always trying to keep our wood supply up high enough to make progress on the bonfire. In truth, it came down to the weather roll on Turn 11 - if that had been bad enough we'd have lost too much wood and not been able to complete the bonfire. Think I'm about ready to move onto the next scenario of the game.

After that, I pulled out the Pathfinder card game that I broke down and bought from MM Friday afternoon. I had high hopes that my kids would take to it - they really like the "loot collecting" aspect of games and that's one of the big draws of Pathfinder. I was right - we went through the opening "Brigadoom!" scenario and they loved it. We have one of them playing the ranger, one playing the fighter, and I'm playing the rogue. We beat that scenario, then moved onto "Poison Pill" and beat that one as well. We started the final one last night, but are only a few turns into it. This one looks like it could be a pretty good long-term game with them.

To wrap up the day we played a few rounds of Rise of Augustus, which was fun because even the 4-year-old could get involved by being the Official Token Draw-er.

Hopefully more Pathfinder tonight!

Not only am I getting a CSI order this week. I am out of town all next week, when it is quite possible 4 packages my wife is unaware of will be delivered, two pre-orders from CSI including the x-wing stuff and mage wars stuff, my zombicide first shipment (I hope) plus GTA V. Normally I get home first and can deal with packages and she doesn't even check the front porch or mailbox on a daily basis. I probably need to remind her to check for packages. I'm so dead.

On the gameplay front, my son and I are still workign our way through Castle Ravenloft. After finally losing a scenario playing with just a fighter and cleric, I gave it some thought and realized they way the game is structured, fewer players makes the game harder in a few ways. Sure you get more monsters and encounters, but I think the many more HPs and powers more than makes up for that in most cases.

Argh! I'd meant to post this Kickstarter before, and now there's only 3 hours left :( But for those who happen to, check out:

Looks really nice. I'm in for 3 sets, likely going to go with 3x Viking sets. I just like how the designs are generally vague and could fit in with just about anything.
