I think it was based out of three or four locations over weeks of real time... but yeah - package theft in cities is an epidemic. He even mentions going to the cops with video evidence and they refused to deal with it. One of his thieves is a couple with backpacks on, just trolling neighborhoods they walk through until they're weighted down and head home.

It's really common. I've been hit few times. Once they got a case of cat food. I found it opened a few doors down with 1 can missing (?). Another time it was 1,000 rounds of.22lr. That package showed up on the front stoop 2 days later ripped apart but sloppily resealed with nothing missing.

But they are getting brash, just opening packages right there and leaving what they don't want to save room for the rest of their spree.


Now FedEx delivers to Walgreens next door and there is an Amazon locker a few blocks away. So my better stuff isn't sitting out. Although when I'm walking down the street with my Amazon boxes from the locker I get suspicious looks.

As I very strongly suspected, shenanigans.

They noticed some strange coincidences, like how one of the porch bandits seemed to live directly next door to Rober's friend, Cici, and that the car used in one of the heists, a black Ford Focus with a rosary hanging on the mirror, was parked right in front of her house in Pittsburg, California.

At first, Rober's video made it seem like people were taking the packages off porches in Illinois, but later added a disclaimer to the video that this was not his actual house.

On Wednesday, a man named Peter Logan emailed BuzzFeed News to share some strange things he noticed using Google's Street View feature and Zillow. He realized that when the third thief, who opened the glitter-fart bomb inside her home, went outside to throw it out, her side yard and outdoor space seemed to be right next door to Cici's house.

After watching the video several times much more closely, he realized that the second package thief's car, a black Ford Focus, was also parked outside Cici's house in several other shots. Zooming in, Logan was able to read the address on the third thief's house, google it, and confirm that it was indeed Cici's neighbor, leading him, he wrote, to "come to the opinion that the whole video was a put-on, that the package thieves were in on the gag."

Some of you may be old enough to remember these most excellent MADtv parodies of Rankin/Bass stop-motion kids' movies, and some of you need a pop culture elder like myself to point you to them. Either way, I think they're brilliant and hope they'll make you laugh as hard as I did when I first saw them. They're definitely not for little eyes though!

Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac

I had never heard this great song until I caught it playing at a restaurant last week and Googled it. The story is pretty crazy. Nicks and Buckingham had broken up before recording the legendary Rumours album. Buckingham wrote Go Your Own Way about the breakup and Nicks wrote Silver Springs in response. While it is a great song, it was decided (against Nicks' strong objections) to be omitted from the album due to it's slower speed. It wasn't released until decades later in the live form seen above.

Towards the end of the video Nicks stares at Buckingham with daggers and he just gives it right back to her. It's crazy that two people could have that resentment in them and still make such beautiful music.

Not sure if this would be of interest to anyone, but here's an episode of Almost Impossible (I think? I didn't look into it. Not sure how Wired is involved. Whatever) discussing the physical limits of cycling's 1 hour distance record. Talks a bit about the limits of training and the need to be physically gifted with the ability to process enormous amounts of oxygen. I think it's 18 minutes long.

Here's the same video about sprinting. I've put it in a tag so it won't take up real estate in the thread. Sprinters approach 27 miles per hour. The last time I was working out regularly, I was extremely happy to approach 27 *kilometers* an hour over a sustained period of time on my BIKE. I could almost reach the women's marathon record holder's pace. Almost. Normally I was far below. That means that the woman recorder holder could have been running beside me the entire time, and most times pulling away from me, while I went full out on my bike. 27 miles an hour is pretty insane, even if it's for less than 10 seconds.
