It is a common mistake but it takes on a sinister undertone when it's Drumpfster "quoting" Obama.

The Donald gets truthy. :)
TRUMP: "I never met Putin, I don't know who Putin is. ... I've never spoken to him." - Miami news conference, during a discussion of whether Russia had hacked into emails of the Democratic National Committee.

THE FACTS: Not so long ago, Trump bragged about well he knew Russian President Vladimir Putin. Now he says he doesn't know him at all. That appears to be closer to the truth. In November, when he was trying to burnish his foreign-policy credentials during a GOP primary debate, he said of Putin, "I got to know him very well because we were both on '60 Minutes,' we were stablemates, and we did very well that night. " That claim was debunked at the time because Trump's only connection to the Russian leader was that they both appeared on the same show. He was interviewed in New York, Putin in Moscow and they weren't even in the same segment on the program.

Because watching tv means something.

Drumpf understands that he's not getting paid based on ratings, right?

I guess you guys haven't been following Scott Adams very closely then. After what he said back in 2011, being a Trump supporter doesn't surprise me at all.

I have not, no. Hence my surprise, though discovering some of what he's posted on Trump was my gateway into his brand of insanity.

Trump says he would like to "hit" DNC speakers who disparaged him

I'm sure this will be spun as more "sarcasm." This is who the GOP wants in charge of the military. A guy so thin-skinned he has to threaten violence just because his political opponents said bad things about him at their own rally.

From YK's link:
"I was going to hit one guy in particular, a very little guy," Trump said to laughs at a campaign rally in Davenport, Iowa. "I was going to hit this guy so hard his head would spin, he wouldn't know what the hell happened."
Trump said this individual "came out of nowhere" and had done work with Trump in the past.
It's so difficult to figure out who he's talking about... :?

Not that I'm surprised that more people would rather watch DNC speeches and feel more optimistic rather than watch RNC and feel that they need to hide under the covers :) Still, though, I never understood how Nielsen runs their ratings, and it makes even less sense now, when you have people watching live streams online.

So he was really mad and wanted to "hit" the speakers back. But he decided not to...why? When has he ever been shy about "hitting" people who he doesn't like?

This reads a lot like that bully who talks tough about how he's going to beat someone up at lunch, but then lunch rolls around and everyone's waiting for him to make good, and he shrugs it off saying "You know what? You're not even worth it. I'll get you later." and then slinking off.

His choice of words was terrible but I think this is more in line with his weird penchant for implying he knows deep, dark secrets. Totally want him in charge of a vast national intelligence apparatus.

I think the Clinton campaign is doing the right thing by giving Trump the rope to hang himself and not stooping to his level. There's a difference between pointing out your opponent's deficiencies and mud-slinging, and while she has done the former, she hasn't resorted to the latter. It's going to be interesting to see if this is the same tactic she uses in the debates - stay calm, positive, and professional, and hope Trump's thin skin forces him to go into a total meltdown on national television.

I still think Clinton holds the edge in the debates. She's an experienced debater, and she basically just needs to rise above the level of a 5-year old. If Trump says anything that comes off as remotely sexist or bullying, he's going to be crucified in the press. He also has the unenviable position of answering questions about things he knows nothing about (like foreign policy).

I think the Clinton campaign is doing the right thing by giving Trump the rope to hang himself and not stooping to his level.
A coworker mentioned an ad by the Democratic super-pac that was just basically clips of Trump saying the things that Trump says. In essence, letting Trump grab all the rope he wants.

The sad thing is, this also works as an ad FOR Trump given that it's all those things he said that got him the nomination in the first place.

Yup, the two of them speak to entirely different audiences and there is so little crossover between them (and so few voters who don't fall naturally into one camp or the other) that this election is not about persuasion, but about whose tribe is bigger and more motivated.

Clinton can dismantle Trump with facts and logic, and Trump voters shrug it off. Trump can insult Clinton and throw mud, and Clinton voters brush that aside. You'll see this when they debate -- neither one can afford to engage on the other one's turf.

Clinton has the bigger tribe, but their support is lukewarm. Trump has fewer but more passionate supporters. It's unclear to me which will prevail.

You know what they're saying are lies. It's very disrespectful, what they are saying. I like most of the DNC speakers. I've bought most of them luncheons. I never said I would like hit anybody. Why are you saying I would hit anybody?
