I about got into it with my mom last night. My stepdad dragged her to that Hillary propaganda movie and she came out of it foaming at the mouth that she was not voting for Clinton and was going Trump all the way. I told her there was no way i was voting for Trump so we'd just have to cancel each other out.

She then played the "think of your kids" card to which I replied - I am thinking of the kids, that's exactly why I'm NOT voting for Trump. As much as I dislike Hillary, she's not disparaging women and minorities, threatening to build walls to keep people out, trashing the parents of soldiers who died for this country, etc. I'll take a thousand unsecured email servers over a short-fused misogynistic racist bully with zero political experience, who has been caught in multiple lies and has shown a breathtaking ignorance of current events.

This should make our trip out of town together on election week really interesting. :grund:

Re: debate rescheduling
Trump acted as if the dates were news, however. In an interview with ABC News, Trump said of the debate scheduling, "I got a letter from the NFL saying, 'This is ridiculous.'"

The NFL denied that. "While we'd obviously wish the debate commission could find another night, we did not send a letter to Trump," a spokesman said.
The guy is a pathological liar. What I find interesting is that my stepdad bashes Hillary all the time for lying about her mail servers, but apparently is OK with Trump lying nearly every day about some subject or another. What's incredible is Trump lies about stuff that can easily be fact-checked.

When smart phones started becoming commonplace I had this naive thought that maybe now we don't have to go to the "well, he said...and I believe him" route and instead people would just google and fact check for themselves, thus reducing the amount of lying and obfuscation in politics. Boy was I wrong.

That is the frustrating part for me. It isn't about the lying. It is mostly about tribalism. It doesn't matter if my guy is lying. It doesn't matter if he is the darkest soul to probably ever aspire to the office. Because at the end of the day I trust he'll have my back.

Can you imagine if the the NFL had existed during the Lincoln-Douglas debates? Honest Abe would have been like, "Sorry dude, the Bears are playing the Patriots this weekend."

(Former LD debater - so excuse the translation to full LD debate style). The NFL is a moral good that should not be shirked for political convenience. The spectacle of the gridiron is a microcosm of the world with all its intrinsic flaws and wonders that imbues the world with wisdom that far outweighs our paltry attempts at political discourse. Since we both support our fine boys - the Chicago Bears - let us not be a house divided and instead unite to watch the destruction of those godforsaken Patriots!

I loved that one of the Trump people said that scheduling the debates opposite a football game was disenfranchising the voters. That word does not mean what they think it means.

Trump complains that new debate schedule puts them up against a rerun of The Shawshank Redemption on TBS.

TBS reminds Trump that The Shawshank Redemption is the only thing they broadcast.

Trump's Chief Surrogate for Red Meat, Roger Stone, is now pushing the line that Khizr Khan is a Muslim Brotherhood agent and that his son, U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, was a sleeper terrorist.
(Don't follow Stone's link unless you're willing to put a brick through your monitor.)

The whole Trump phenomenon is totally unhinged. I no longer fear him as much as I fear the supporters who are staying with him through all this.

It's interesting how he follows classic internet troll behavior. He tweeted this:
@realDonaldTrump wrote:Mr. Khan, who does not know me, viciously attacked me from the stage of the DNC and is now all over T.V. doing the same - Nice!
That's Trolling 101. Attack/make outlandish claim, wait for backlash, claim to be a victim.

If Joe in the street wants to make crazy claims about muslim women not being able to talk on a public stage. Whatever. But if you are trying to become the CiC and the top Exectutive office holder in the land, you don't fuckin get to throw mud at grieving parents for KIA children. Period. You just don't. Out of the long list of offensive things he's done this campaign beginning with his insanity with Megan Kelly, and it's a long list. This tops the list... Like "How do I top a welcoming invitation to Russia to attack psuedo government institutions." "Oh, I got it McCain, wasn't enough. Angry grieving parents of dead soldiers. I'll go after them." What's messed up is that he's going after all of these sacred conservative cows and pissing on them and he's being defended for it. It's the weirdest game of cognitive dissonance meets in for a penny, in for a pound I have ever seen in my lifetime. I'm pretty certain evoking Jesus name to kick babies and send children to government run internment educational camps is next.

PC World
Donald Trump has pledged to crack down on Internet pornography via corporate partnerships and possibly establishing a federal commission on the harmful effects of pornography, a nonprofit said Monday.
...
The pledge Trump signed calls for preventing the sexual exploitation of children, better enforcing Internet obscenity laws, and recognizing that exposure to Internet porn is "deforming the sexual development of younger viewers.”
Reading through the pledge, it seems to cloak a general attack on pornography in a lot of "won't someone think of the children" verbiage.

Trump Says He's 'Afraid' Election is 'About to be Rigged'

Gotta love the way he is already making excuses (and prepping the internet outrage/conspiracy machine) for losing which have nothing to do with him or his poorly run and financed campaign.

Trump on sexual harassment in the workplace.
Donald Trump thinks it’s “very sad” that women at Fox News are “complaining” about being sexually harassed by former Fox chief Roger Ailes. As allegations against his old friend piled up, Trump told NBC’s Chuck Todd on July 24 that, “Some of the women that are complaining, I know how much he's helped them…And when they write books….and say wonderful things about him….[N]ow, all of a sudden, they're saying these horrible things about him.” Without passing judgment about the specific allegations, which are currently under investigation by 21st Century Fox, one should be able to accept that a woman could both have been promoted by a boss and harassed by him. Women are often forced to maintain good relations with men who abuse them precisely because those men have power. When I mentioned this to Trump in a phone interview last Tuesday, he doubled down on his retrograde take. “There was quite a bit of fabulous things said [about Ailes by Gretchen Carlson],” he told me. “It would be easier for me and more politically correct for me to say you are right. But you would think she wouldn’t say those things.” I pointed out that it wasn’t just Carlson who had made allegations. “I didn’t know it was more than just her,” Trump told me, even though his comments to Chuck Todd referred to women, plural. What if someone had treated Ivanka in the way Ailes allegedly behaved? His reply was startling, even by Trumpian standards. “I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case,” he said.

Seriously, how can going on the attack against the Khan family be good politics? The more Trump feeds this story, the more it's going to hurt.

How do you ensure you don't really lose in an election?

Tell your supporters that the elections are rigged.

If he wins, he'll announce that he's happy that they weren't this time. If he loses, he only did so because of fraud.

Trump's FB page is full of comments from fans who claim the polls are lying and the media is trying to silence Trump. It's a conspiracy. All the elite institutions, now including disloyal portions of the GOP, are in on it.

Claiming the elections will be rigged is the next logical step. If the lying polls suppressed Trump's lead and the voting itself gives Hillary a win, then clearly the votes were also lying.

The creepy part is Trump's warning/promise that there will be violence if the election is "rigged" (i.e. if his troops don't accept the result). I don't believe we'll see real violence after the results come in, but this kind of threat is a set-up to encourage intimidation at the polls as Trump die-hards show up in force to "poll watch" and "prevent voter fraud."

I really do wonder if we haven't reached a tipping point where republicans are realizing that they need to cut their losses and pivot to focus on 2020 instead.

Cruz took a gamble with this speech at the RNC, but I think it was a calculated one. If GOP ire over Trump continues to rise, the GOP may do exactly what you say and back off until 2020. At which point Cruz emerges from his man cave and reminds people he had the balls to stand up to Trump at one point....in his own house, so to speak, too.

Stone and Trump have been together since at least the 1990s when Stone was a lobbyist for Trump's casino businesses.

He was officially part of the campaign during 2015, but he resigned after his sexist and racist comments went too far. (This was back when Trump was still occasionally attempting damage control.) Today he's an independent operative, but no one doubts that he and Trump continue to be close and continue to coordinate. He's still Trump's attack dog, and he's the campaign's unofficial liaison to the hard-right fringe. He's a regular on Alex Jones.

Stone is vile in every conceivable way.

From that interview with Stone:
“But it’s interesting to hear you say this, and it’s funny also, because Trump will go there. He will go to the places other politicians wont, and he’s probably the only person to run for president within the last fifty years who would dare to do this, and might even get away with it. It’s remarkable isn’t it how he’s just sort of re-injected reality into politics”.
So we're calling it "reality" now?

I was reading an old Time Magazine in the waiting room. A magazine from well before Trump was the selected candidate and it was already being suggested then that the RNC chairperson was going to pull the plug for down ballot respectability, a la Bob Dole, if Trump got the nod. Essentially, all RNC funding would go to congressional districts. But then how much R money has Trump received so far?

I'm glad that Red State did that, although I think the polls need to get much worse and remain there before Ryan or McConnell would consider throwing Trump under the bus. I think Trump would need to be down by double digits for at least a couple weeks.
