Every few weeks he should email them and ask about that toaster. I get a good laugh out of his antics. I can just see those guys in some room when he sent them a made up toaster newspaper pic looking at each other and pointing at the screen.

Have a laugh

This morning I took a flight from LAX back to NJ. I still can't hear the LAX airport announcements without cracking up.

Didn't care for the first one with Optimus but the others are good. Turn on CC for extra fun. Reminds me of this Scottish streamer I watch and he leaves CC on for shits and giggles. Its horrible.

There was a bright future ahead with women's clothing getting smaller and smaller in the 80s and 90s. Then Moore's law of small clothing somehow failed us all.

Most people dont know that the downtown city of Chattanooga sits atop the old city of Chattanooga. Due to floods in the 19th century Chattanooga was raised a full story up. A lot of the old town was simply covered or built on top of. Not a lot left now...a window or door arch that shows up at sidewalk level and such. But there are places to go down into basements and see the old stuff.

It's interesting that they have a similar grip on the sticks to the way one would grip a katana. And apparently the notion of kata also applies to taiko drumming.

Ken "Hiwatt" Marshall is a sound engineer who has worked with industrial bands for years. He did the mastering for Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly, etc.

He's got a fascinating series where he dissects individual elements of certain tracks and explains how and why they sound the way they do, the equipment used, how it was recorded, and how the effects were structured. It's absolutely fascinating stuff, even if I don't understand even half of the highly technical stuff he's talking about. Makes me really appreciate how these albums sound, as the level of effort that goes into making seemingly simple vocals or drums sound great is insane.

I thought about using this as my ringtone at one time.

A great story from Huey Lewis. One Ive not heard before. Loved this guy and his work since a teen in the 80s.

First concert I ever saw was Huey Lewis and The News, circa Grade 8. It was right before Do You Believe In Love became a big hit.

2011 great Japan earthquake and tsunami. This thing shook for nearly 3 minutes. And as they say it hits hard then lightens up then really hits harder and finally eases off. Filmed inside some airport's eatery.



Heres a good one of the tsunami itself. Look how much distance there is under the bridge at the start then see it near the end when he looks again. Also the huge ass waves breaking on shore in the distance..HUGE.

I feel like...we're crossing lines here.

Damn. Someone pre cgi and didn't know the actors would have no idea something wasn't kosher.

Cinema history/technique question!

Does anyone know the origin of the following cinematic trope? "Characters sit in a private theater, watching a film while cigarette smoke wafts around them and in front of the projector."

I feel like I've seen this many times, but I can't recall the origin point. It must be a classic, but I can't recall it.

But I really do think there's a (maybe film noir?) origin point for this kind of scene. I just can't dredge it up.

I want to to say it's in Citizen Kane, but I can't recall any such scene.
