My point?
That I really like elk.
Good points. I just assumed that Johnson would be more apt to draw moderate Republicans away from Trump lunacy (like me) than he would be drawing moderate Democrats away from a mainstream Clinton.Defiant wrote:The guy is a libertarian, meaning he's socially liberal and economically conservative. In addition, he could be appealing to NeverTrump Republicans who would rather not vote for Clinton if there's a more appealing option available.
I concur with your assumptions. Whereas Stein does just the opposite.pr0ner wrote:Good points. I just assumed that Johnson would be more apt to draw moderate Republicans away from Trump lunacy (like me) than he would be drawing moderate Democrats away from a mainstream Clinton.
I don't think that is going to play with many outside his base to be honest. It is pretty transparent and is still completely unprofessional - I'm personally not even going to attempt to hold him up to any sort of "Presidentiality" standard at this point.YellowKing wrote:The pattern's getting quite predictable:

I think Johnson will get a lot of support from Republicans who reject Trump and can sullenly resign themselves to a Clinton presidency. There aren't nearly as many Clinton-disliking Dems willing to accept a President Trump.LordMortis wrote:I concur with your assumptions. Whereas Stein does just the opposite.pr0ner wrote:Good points. David Robinson, a data scientist at Stack Overflow, determined that the angriest tweets from Trump's official Twitter account, @realDonaldTrump, were sent from an Android device — while more moderated messages that focused on events and campaign strategy were sent by an iPhone.
Members of the Republican nominee's campaign staff are known to use iPhones. However, Trump uses a Samsung Galaxy, having sworn off Apple after that company's battle with the FBI over unlocking the phone of one of the San Bernadino attackers.
Looking only at tweets sent from an iPhone or Android device, Robinson's analysis showed there were distinct differences between the types of tweets sent from the two devices, including style, tone and the time of day.
...
Tweets from the Android phone were mostly sent in the morning and included emotionally charged words such as "badly," "crazy," "weak," and "dumb."
A sentiment analysis revealed Trump's Android account uses about 40 to 80 percent more words related to negative feelings than the iPhone account.
...
Trump's tweets have been the target of particular scrutiny during his presidential campaign, due to frequent and egregious misspellings. After the February 25 Republican debate, he twice tweeted that then-challenger Senator Marco Rubio was a "leightweight chocker" (those tweets since deleted). Trump has also mangled the spelling of several American cities, including Phoenix, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City; and even misspelled Barack Obama's name. Twice.

There will be tightening as the election gets close. A lot of Republicans will hold their noses and vote R when Ryan and McConnell swear that President Trump can be educated and contained. I don't think GA or AZ will stay blue for long.El Guapo wrote:A poll came out the other day showing Clinton up 9 (!) in North Carolina. YK's mother will not be pleased. I wonder if that's going to hold up.

Donald Trump has found at least one person who agrees with his allegation that the U.S. administration founded the Islamic State group. The leader of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah group quoted Trump at a rally in the country's south Saturday, saying the presidential candidate's statements were based on facts. Hassan Nasrallah says: "this is an American presidential candidate who is saying this. What he says is based on facts and documents." Trump this week described President Barack Obama as the "founder" of IS. Trump later said the claim was intended as sarcasm. Nasrallah, who has sent thousands of his fighters to Syria to shore up President Bashar Assad's forces, has long claimed that the U.S. helped create and fuel the rise of Islamic extremists to destabilize the Middle East.
I wonder if the Black Panthers standing out there to intimidate conservative voters will make room for them?Holman wrote:So, yeah, we can look forward to gangs of Trumpshirts challenging citizens' right to vote across the country. One wonders how they'll decide who looks suspicious.
I remember that 2008 episode. Fox tried to spin it as swarms of Obama terrorists standing guard to attack white voters nationwide, but it was literally just those two guys at one polling place in Philadelphia. They stood around yelling for a while until the cops arrived to send them away.em2nought wrote:I wonder if the Black Panthers standing out there to intimidate conservative voters will make room for them?Holman wrote:So, yeah, we can look forward to gangs of Trumpshirts challenging citizens' right to vote across the country. The more he does stupid shit like this the more convinced I am he's in the tank for Hillary.YellowKing wrote:Trump's campaigning in Connecticut, which hasn't voted Republican since 1988, at a time when he's having trouble holding red states. It's almost as if the campaign says, "What's the absolute best thing we could do to save this campaign? Ok, now let's do the exact opposite."
Trump visiting Connecticut, a heavily Democratic state, raised eyebrows among many Republicans. "It's asinine that he would be in Connecticut holding a public rally less than 90 days before the election," said Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak. "You don't see Hillary publicly campaigning in Idaho and Mississippi. I have to think this proves the candidate is running the campaign, which explains why it's such a disaster of biblical proportions." At several points the crowd chanted "lock her up," a frequent campaign rally chant in reference to Trump's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Trump told the crowd that normally he responds by saying he intends instead to defeat her in the Nov. 8 election, but this time added, "You know what? You have a point!" Trump also dropped his recent efforts to say he was not being serious when he said Obama was the "founder" of the Islamic State militant group. "It's the opinion of myself and a lot of people that he was the founder," Trump told the crowd.
