I don't think it's any more complicated than midnight on the Doomsday Clock represents nuclear Armageddon, the clock has perpetually been kept 5 - 15 minutes from midnight, and DST moves clocks forward an hour, therefore...Jaymann wrote:Uh, yeah. Heh, so it is. I had to read the strip 3 more times before I finally realized that he explicity said that (I was just seeing the clock in that panel). I blame my dozy lack of perception on the switch to DST (compounded by my general doziness).El Guapo wrote:"Spring forward" is a pretty obvious reference to daylight savings time.

You guys spent way to much time discussing a comic I found amusing enough to post. But hey, now you guys know about daylight savings time and the doomsday clock.

I think we were discussing my lack of reading skills more than the actual comic. What makes you think that we didn't know about DST or the doomsday clock (other than a compulsive need to assert superior knowledge)?Defiant wrote:You guys spent way to much time discussing a comic I found amusing enough to post. Nope. And so now I won't either.

Re: Pictures for R&P
The alt text didn't start it; my misinterpreting El Guapo's post while skimming past the one bit of dialogue in the comic started it*, while Defiant's impulse to be a douchebag about it spun up the momentum. It's almost like someone is riffing on the transition to DST (making people cranky due to loss of sleep) and nuclear escalation elements of the comic.LordMortis wrote:![]()

Probably a fair question. I would wonder the same thing if a dude had long tresses as well. Seems impracticable for a space mission and surprising they don't have a gender neutral hair length policy.Jaymann wrote:She may be wrapped a bit too tight.GreenGoo wrote:I assume Alexander is the bald one beside her.

I don't disagree. My response to her response would be something along the lines of "Because Alexander doesn't have 2 feet of hair tied into a tight bun on the top of his head".Jag wrote:Probably a fair question. I get her stance and I understand the ire at being asked such an inconsequential question while the other astro(cosmo?)nauts were probably asked more substantial questions, but it is something to be mildly curious about, although I doubt it's more interesting than "I leave it tied in a knot/bun the entire time".

OTOH I like her attitude, but OTOH (polymorphism!) other astronauts have handled the question with greater tact.

I like her attitude too, for what it's worth.
Tact is great, but eventually you just want to punch a reporter who asks that question for the millionth time. So as far as tact goes, her answer was more tactful than a bloody nose.
