I don't think it's any more complicated than midnight on the Doomsday Clock represents nuclear Armageddon, the clock has perpetually been kept 5 - 15 minutes from midnight, and DST moves clocks forward an hour, therefore...

Heh, so it is. I had to read the strip 3 more times before I finally realized that he explicity said that (I was just seeing the clock in that panel). I blame my dozy lack of perception on the switch to DST (compounded by my general doziness).

You guys spent way to much time discussing a comic I found amusing enough to post. But hey, now you guys know about daylight savings time and the doomsday clock.

I think we were discussing my lack of reading skills more than the actual comic. What makes you think that we didn't know about DST or the doomsday clock (other than a compulsive need to assert superior knowledge)?

The fact that people felt the need to
explain DST and
the doomsday clock?

Next up: we tackle the complex nature of the Knock Knock joke and why who's there can make all the difference in the world.

Has anyone actually posted the Alt Text that started it all?
/Runs off to xkcd.
Nope. And so now I won't either.

The alt text didn't start it; my misinterpreting El Guapo's post while skimming past the one bit of dialogue in the comic started it*, while Defiant's impulse to be a douchebag about it spun up the momentum. It's almost like someone is riffing on the transition to DST (making people cranky due to loss of sleep) and nuclear escalation elements of the comic.
* "It" being the entertaining** part of the exchange.
** "Entertaining" is an inherently subjective characteristic.

If she were a trump supporter maybe he would.
Of course had she been the WH would be calling it a hate crime.

Probably a fair question. I would wonder the same thing if a dude had long tresses as well. Seems impracticable for a space mission and surprising they don't have a gender neutral hair length policy.

I don't disagree. My response to her response would be something along the lines of "Because Alexander doesn't have 2 feet of hair tied into a tight bun on the top of his head".
I get her stance and I understand the ire at being asked such an inconsequential question while the other astro(cosmo?)nauts were probably asked more substantial questions, but it is something to be mildly curious about, although I doubt it's more interesting than "I leave it tied in a knot/bun the entire time".

OTOH I like her attitude, but OTOH (polymorphism!) other astronauts have handled the question with greater tact.

I like her attitude too, for what it's worth.
Tact is great, but eventually you just want to punch a reporter who asks that question for the millionth time. So as far as tact goes, her answer was more tactful than a bloody nose.
