I haven't plummeted to my death but I have parked at the top of a cliff and had to take a 20-min detour to get back up. Whups.

As a side note, as I was heading back to the space port, some pirates scanned me and were about to engage. Managed to sneak in to the spaceport in time.

You don't have to take the scenic route in that scenario. You can climb vertical cliffs by facing into them and using the jetpack. As long as you maintain contact with the cliff face, the jetpack charge doesn't run down (I'm guessing it's a buglet where the game thinks you're on the ground and therefore the jetpack is charging).Zaxxon wrote:I haven't plummeted to my death but I have parked at the top of a cliff and had to take a 20-min detour to get back up. Re: No Man's Sky
I just double-checked to be sure, and I was able to zip up a cliff without any drain at all until I flew off the top. I do have the sigma/tau jetpack boosters installed, so that might make a difference. Aside from that, the only thing I can think of is that you might not be maintaining contact with the surface.Zaxxon wrote:Sure runs down for me. Weird.

I'll have to try it again. You're sure you're trying a totally sheer cliff?

Yup. It can't be a bug. A message pops up to tell you to do it when you run into a vertical wall. I've used it a few times.Zaxxon wrote:I'll have to try it again. You're sure you're trying a totally sheer cliff?
The other thing is with a bypass chip you can summon your ship from any parking location.

Re: No Man's Sky
If anything it seems to work better with sheer cliffs (I've used it to exit from deep mine shafts that have perfectly smooth vertical walls). With bumpier cliffs, I think there can be a tendency to bounce off and start draining the jetpack if you don't steer yourself into the cliff face.Zaxxon wrote:I'll have to try it again. Rocket-assisted climbing is definitely a feature. Rocket-assisted climbing with unlimited duration because it doesn't drain the jetpack may or may not be a "feature".coopasonic wrote:Yup. It could be intentional to prevent players from getting themselves stuck in a pit or cave or whatever.Max Peck wrote:Rocket-assisted climbing is definitely a feature. I landed on this great star warsian column with a flat plate like feature on top. It was located between 2 points of interest. I jumped off without thinking and realized there was no path back to my ship. Luckily the jetpack had enough fuel to fly me straight up the lip of the plate, or I would have been screwed (I thought). I have since found the ship calling thingies so I realize now I wouldn't have been.
Still, I can see the free wall climbing as being intentional. That doesn't mean it is, just that I could see it being.
edit: 8 meg patch today? Anyone know what's in it? Just steam related stuff?

I get the feeling the patches are addressing things that they really don't want to draw attention to until they are sure it will work.
Some time when you release a fix you are also just crossing your fingers it will work like you think it will.

Re: No Man's Sky
Well today I hit a game breaking bug. I had just warped to a new system and hit pulse to head for the space station. Instead of shutting down pulse to glide into the sapce station, pulse never disengaged and I went at full speed into the space station. I clipped into the center of the thing which is basically nothingness and am trapped like a fly in amber. My thrusters work but I cant move from where I am at. I tried pulsing out and then tried to access the map to warp out. No luck there. I even tried shooting my way out. Finally, I decided to quit and figured since I hadnt exited my ship, it would flip me back to my previous save point. Great in theory but not in practice. Now every time I tried to start the game, it gets to the Hello Games loading screen and then crashes back to steam. I put in a ticket but I fear my game may be lost along with many hours of play time, a 40 slot ship and a maxxed multi tool. I havent heard of this being an issue before so I guess I just got really unlucky. I contacted customer support but I doubt I will hear back from them anytime soon and I really dont know how they can save my game. I am disappointed, to say the least.

If you could get in, there is an option for loading a previous restore point. But that requires getting the game to actually run. Hopefully this will iron out!rshetts2 wrote:Well today I hit a game breaking bug. I had just warped to a new system and hit pulse to head for the space station. Re: No Man's Sky
Here's an interesting item I think.
I'm borrowing my son's game. Here's some behaviour we've noticed.
While I'm playing, my discoveries are marked with my steam account. This includes everything: Planet, fauna, flora whatever. Just like you'd expect.
However, once I stop playing and then start playing again, all my previous discoveries are marked as being discovered by my son, no longer by me. This coincides with my early experiences where my first planet was marked with his name, despite knowing he hadn't been anywhere near it. I was just learning the game (still am) and wasn't confident in what I was seeing, but now I have more evidence.
So it looks like if I want my name in the great database in the sky, I need to buy the game. That ain't happening, so I guess my son gets twice as many discoveries.

Re: No Man's Sky
There doesn't appear to be an easy way to get the little "do this next" texts to appear. They seem to pop up and fade away and if I'm concentrating on something else I can miss them until they pop up again. I also find they range from obvious and easy to understand to obscure and confusing. Perhaps this is intentional.

Re: No Man's Sky
I decided to copy my game files from my steam file and rename them, saving them on my desktop. I then deleted the game from steam and then downloaded it again. I figured that if they stored info on their side, perhaps my save game was stored there as well. Well, it worked! I logged in and my game reverted to my previous save. So just a heads up. If you run into a situation like I did, it is fixable. I played for awhile with no ill effects and then logged off then logged back on again and everything was as it should be. Frankly I was surprised it worked and I fully expected to have to restart the game. Sure glad that it did!

Re: No Man's Sky
So i had my first bad encounter with pirates. Was leaving a planet full of loot when five pirates hit me. Took 2 down before they got me. Kind of frustrating since I wasn't ready for em, but i should have known better. So next order of business is to upgrade my starship so that i can defend myself. All the whilel with an eye to hitting up that one planet with those pearls. If i can get on there and do some serious pearl snatching, i'll be able to buy a nice expensive ship. Still will need to upgrade my combat abilities. But that will be a high priority with the new ship as well. I have plenty of lvl 2 schematics and a smattering of level three, but they have those graviton balls, which i havent come across yet.
One gripe with the pirates is that i wish there was an easier way to keep your shields up; instead had to go into a seperate menu to bring them back online. Now i know i have to keep tons of iron on my ships.

Re: No Man's Sky
Walked up to my first sheer vertical surface and immediately got a popup text that said "use your jetpack to climb", so I'm fairly sure the zero jetpack fuel usage is by design.
Also had my discoveries switch over to being my son's discovers while I was playing, so I don't even have to leave the game and return for the change to happen. Just an fyi.
My first crashed ship was a 14 slotter, which is worse than your starting ship of 15 slots. It had a few techs that might have been nice to have, but on the whole it was smaller and had less cargo space because it had more components installed. Oh well.

Re: No Man's Sky
Sounds like it's a situation that might have been fixed by going to the game's properties in Steam and clicking "verify integrity of game cache". It often fixes weird crash bugs like this.rshetts2 wrote:I decided to copy my game files from my steam file and rename them, saving them on my desktop. Five, yes FIVE pirates downed after they scanned me. Suck it, pirates! I got lucky, they jumped in right in front of me so I got a lot of free shots at them before they started attacking. I know why they were after me, nearly every slot in my ship was full of gold!

Re: No Man's Sky
Hit the 25 hour mark yesterday and had the "Oh...this again" thought while landing on another planet. Maybe I'm just having a bad string of planets, but the last three or four I've hit have been environmental nightmares. High temps, radiation, storms, etc... and getting anything done on them has been problematic even with all my advanced suit protections. I also felt pretty good about the 2.7 million credits I had until I saw a ship for sale going for 19 million credits. Hilarious.
I also don't enjoy the pirate element. I'm not really into space pew pew pew and the idea that I'm zipping along with pulse engines and they yank me out of that to fight is rather annoying. Also, my ship is slotted for cargo, not fighting - which doesn't help.
I'm guessing I'm a bit burned out on the game and likely need a break for a bit.

Re: No Man's Sky
The pirate thing is easier once you apply all kinds of mods to your shields and pulse beam. That thing's hitscan and does some auto aim, which makes it WAY better than the regular cannons. I'd uninstall those if I could. That said, getting dragged out of a pulse jump to fight stinks. Do you even get anything for blowing up pirates? I haven't noticed it if you do.
I can't imagine, even at my most inebriated, hearing a bouncer offering me an hour with a stripper for only $1,400 and thinking That sounds like a reasonable idea.-Two Sheds

They can drop a couple of items for you to scoop up if you have free cargo slots, but I'm not sure if that is a sometimes/often/always thing.Chaz wrote:Do you even get anything for blowing up pirates? I haven't noticed it if you do.

Some of the upgrades come in multi tiers. Is it okay to dump a lower tier upgrade and keep the higher rated one? On some of the tools and ships I buy, I see that they have a 1 and a 2 and a 3 upgrade?

You can use any upgrade without having built its weaker version, but you might want to consider building all of them and connecting them directly to each other in the grid. That way you'll maximize what you get out of them and get a bonus on top. This is especially important for things like your hyperdrive.D.A.Lewis wrote:Some of the upgrades come in multi tiers. I took the path of free exploration instead of the atlas path. May have made a mistake. Am stranded in the second system I warped to, no anti matter and no formula to make same.
None of the traders or bases seem to have anti matter.
There is no way to start a new game the way the save system set up, which is really a down point for this game.
Any suggestions to locate or make anti matter? Or do I have to explore every inch of the planet in hope of finding some. If so this is kind of a grind that needs to be addressed.

Re: No Man's Sky
You can (very rarely) see antimatter for sale, either from traders or on the market. I've seen a grand total of 4 units for sale to date. I've also read that the blueprint for crafting it can be obtained randomly from factories (or whatever they're called -- the places with the locked doors), but I haven't seen it pop up that way myself. If you haven't done so, try flying into space and performing a scan of the system. During the tutorial, warping to a new system and performing a scan results in a waypoint to a factory that provides a copy of the antimatter blueprint.Anzac wrote:I took the path of free exploration instead of the atlas path. If you do want to start a new game, you should be able to do so by moving/deleting the local save files (if you disable cloud saves).

If you do a scan while you're in space it might pop up a location on a planet in the system you're in that will get you to the plans so you can craft it yourself. I'd thought it was something you can buy off the Galactic trader, though maybe that's a random thing as well...or the list of available things changes as you move from planet to planet (and in theory, time progresses).Anzac wrote:Any suggestions to locate or make anti matter?
