The Boston Globe's $67 monthly bill for home delivery precludes any other newspaper subs. Yes, I am the last person in America who still gets a daily newspaper, and No, I won't voluntarily give up my morning paper. Although every time they raise the price I'm tempted.

Absolutely brilliant that they came out with all the info first. O'Keefe has a long history of releasing heavily edited videos that they present as "evidence". WaPo beating them to the punch eliminates that.

It would have been interesting to see what PV put out first, then counter it with the un-edited recording.

Reading O'Keefe tweets about how he successfully ran a sting on WaPo as part of his quest to expose that they are the American Pravda as a direct result of the WaPo article is pretty great, too.

You don't really believe that at this point right? You think Alex Jones and all the other nutjobs out there will be deterred? :(

I keep hearing about this paywall, but I've never seen any sign of it (and I read a lot of WaPo articles).

Is Mexico paying for it on my behalf?
Some reads don’t seem to count. Through google news for example.

If you’d like to see the paywall, just go directly to WP and click on eleven links. :D
I normally do access it directly from the WaPo site. I just went and clicked 20 articles in a row as a test, and still no sign of a paywall. Maybe Canadians get a free ride...

At least the NYT gives me a countdown so I can pace myself. WaPo just locks me out with no warning. I don't even know how many freebies I'm supposed to get in a month.

Power without any ethics standards or controls--what could go wrong?

BTW I think this is going to be the overwhelming theme of historical analysis of our crazy present - the populace doesn't give a fig about having ethical leadership. They just want whoever speaks to their own "reality".

Angela Lansbury talks sexual harassment: Women 'must sometimes take blame'

“We must sometimes take blame, women," she continued. "I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped.”

However, Lansbury does not believe harassment is exculpatory. “Should women be prepared for this? No, they shouldn’t have to be!" she said. "There’s no excuse for that. And I think it will stop now – it will have to. I think a lot of men must be very worried at this point.”
In the unedited version of Murder, She Wrote, she spends a short time in each episode with the surprise revelation of blaming the victim for doing their part in the murder by living. You can't murder someone if they're not living!

and now we have seen.

A federal judge hearing the case over who rightfully can lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on an acting basis Tuesday denied a request to block President Donald Trump from installing Mick Mulvaney as acting director.

At a hearing Tuesday evening at the US District Court in Washington, DC, Judge Timothy Kelly ruled that he will not issue an emergency order blocking Trump from installing Mulvaney in the post.

Yup, now Trump gets his way. His way is to install a guy who wants to dismantle a consumer focused bureau that's done actual, quantifiable good for many consumers. That's so great. America is embiggened by this victory.

It's always nice to know that no matter how infuriated I can get with Trump or his antics, good old Mitch McConnell can still do or say something that makes my blood boil. How reporters don't just say, "Are you fucking kidding me Mitch??" to his face, I'll never know.

Thing is, McConnells' claim is a lie.

I wasn't even on Twitter much today, and I caught a reminder of the time McConnell refused a White House meeting of just this kind. He made a big show of attending a Heritage Foundation or Federalist Society meeting instead.

There were probably others as well. I seem to recall several WH-Congressional sit-downs during the ACA negotiations that Republicans refused to attend.

They are just jockeying for blame for the coming government shutdown. Of course, each party will blame the other regardless, but asses must be covered for that sliver of the electorate that hasn't already decided who's at fault.

Textbook co-authored by Roy Moore in 2011 says women shouldn’t run for office.
Alabama Republican Senate Candidate Roy Moore co-authored a study course, published in 2011 and recently obtained by ThinkProgress, that instructs students that women should not be permitted to run for elected office. If women do run for office, the course argues, people have a moral obligation not to vote for them. The course is also critical of the women’s suffrage movement, which in 1920 secured some American women the right to vote.

The course, called “Law and Government: An Introductory Study Course,” includes 28 hours of audio and visual lectures given by Moore and others, as well as a study guide. The course is available for purchase on Amazon, where “Chief Justice Roy Moore” is listed as a co-author alongside Doug Phillips, Dr. Joseph C. Morecraft, and Dr. Paul Jehle.
The curriculum was a product of Vision Forum, a now-defunct Texas-based evangelical organization headed by Doug Phillips, which taught “Biblical patriarchy”, a theology that prescribes strict, unequal gender roles for men and women. According a statement on the Vision Forum’s website, “Egalitarian feminism is a false ideology that has bred false doctrine in the church and seduced many believers.”

For at least a decade, dating back to 1999, Moore served on the “faculty” of Vision Forum’s so-called “Witherspoon School of Law and Public Policy.” Not a school at all, Witherspoon was instead a series of four-day crash courses that taught men — and only men — that the Bible is the source of “law and liberty and the only sure foundation for addressing the challenging ethical questions of the twenty-first century.”
Oh, and this:
Vision Forum closed in 2013 after Phillips resigned, having admitted to a “lengthy” and “inappropriately romantic and affectionate” relationship with a woman who was not his wife. Shortly thereafter, that woman, Lourdes Torres-Manteufel, sued Phillips and Vision Forum, detailing an emotionally, psychologically, and sexually abusive relationship that started when she was just 15 years old.
