A federal judge hearing the case over who rightfully can lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on an acting basis Tuesday denied a request to block President Donald Trump from installing Mick Mulvaney as acting director.

At a hearing Tuesday evening at the US District Court in Washington, DC, Judge Timothy Kelly ruled that he will not issue an emergency order blocking Trump from installing Mulvaney in the post.
As much as I despise Trump, I think the judge got it right. It makes no sense for a retiring head to appoint his own successor, even temporarily, and I don't believe there is any precedent for it. The statue in the CFPB law clearly envisions a temporary situation where the head person is temporarily unavailable, not when they retire.

The Federalist is out with a hot take on how all politicians are imperfect so there's no reason not to vote for Roy Moore, and also mature men fucking teens is normal and natural, biologically speaking, and all the accusers are liars anyway.

Actually the article leads with the teen-fucking thing. I kid you not.

Organizers with the left-leaning group Housing Works told protesters they must “risk arrest” in order to be reimbursed for airfare to Washington, D.C., according to an internal email obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“We will transport, house and feed you, and deal with all legal support. Caveat: if you are far away from DC and expensive to transport, we can probably only fly you if you can risk arrest,” the internal email told supporters.

Or are you falling for The Daily Caller's innuendo that this is about committing sinister mayhem and The Crimes?

Really? I've done some civil disobedience and never once did a non-profit offer to pay my room, board, and travel.

Nice to know you guys think that is ok. Maybe after I retire I will start a non-profit for paying the expenses/travel of people willing to disrupt liberal events.

Sounds a lot more fun than fishing.

Ugh. Now I've clicked on the Daily Caller.

The article is garbage. It goes beyond common sense to imply that the goal is to "violently disrupt" and that protesters will face "decades of prison time."

And the nefarious group plotting this almost-certain-to-be-terroristic action? "Housing Works fights for funding and legislation to ensure that all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, HIV prevention, and treatment, among other lifesaving services."

As it happens, I know people who have participated in these sorts of actions on both sides of the political aisle (on the right it was anti-abortion). The travel is obviously something significant, but room and board will be sleeping on a local volunteer's floor and making sandwiches in their kitchen.

Well, personally I have no issue with food/board/travel for the right or left. If you are practicing non-violent civil disobedience I hope you have support and receive decent non-violence training. For example if you protest at the nuclear test site at an organized event your arrest will be processed in a BFE small town like 60 miles away from the test site and then you will be left there stranded to hopefully prevent you from getting arrested again. Thankfully, at said protests the organizers contract out buses to pick you up and take you back to base camp across from Mercury. Back at base camp you will find a myriad of training and support services. Food Not Bombs will likely have a soup kitchen set up (often food is dumpster-diven), they can hook you up with a tent, you can receive non-violence and mutual-consensus anarchy training, medical support and on and on.

+1 to this sentiment, even though I personally don't feel Paingod's comment was over the top. As Rip himself attested, he's a big boy, and I am sure I would have responded in kind if Rip or MSD made a similar drive-by comment about my historically hyper liberal views. I think we do pretty well policing ourselves in here, although really we should be asking the minority view posters this question (which is pretty much down to just Rip, now :()

I try not to be intemperate here, but 2017 is a nightmare.

I'm watching my country destroyed along with everything it stands for. The future is being ruined right in front of my eyes, on purpose and with malice, by the greediest and least patriotic assholes who have ever held American power. That's hard to take. I've never been so pessimistic about the world my children will have to deal with.

If I've been unduly harsh with Rip, I shouldn't have been. But he has taken on the role on Trump apologist when MSD and Smutly and the rest of the MAGA crowd have slunk away into the MAGA-stinking night, so I suppose he knew the job was dangerous when he took it.

Despite what he chooses to do in his personal life, I'll still be voting for Gormöth the Destroyer in the coming election
First off, let me say that I completely condemn the actions that Gormöth the Destroyer has taken in his personal life. Since he was spawned from the Gate of Milnüür during the creation of humanity, he has spent the better part of an eternity curing existence itself with evil, immorality, death, and murder on a scale only achievable by his dreadfully immortal self.

And trust me, fellow Trumpers, if I saw him perpetuate his evil behavior on one of my children, I’d kick him right in his fiery ass.

But, let me ask you, would you rather have the horrific physical manifestation of calamity in office, or a freaking Democrat? The choice is easy, if you ask me.
Gormoth 2020: At least the physical manifestation of evil isn't Hillary!

I never considered myself politically motivated or interested, and I would love to get back to that point. For 40 years I looked at politics as a choice between the lesser of two evils and though that was an asinine thing to get involved in. Now it's a choice between a boring, repetitive evil and the mother of all soul-sucking backwards monstrous evils and it's pretty easy to see why I should be involved.

My wife has asked me to block all news outlets on her computer and phone, as she can't stop checking the news daily and is constantly depressed and disgusted by the state of affairs in the US right now. She's at a point where she'd rather not know so she can retain some of her sanity.
