Fair enough, but stones are much more readily found and easier to replace than arrows and bolts. But, I will follow your suggestion and watch for any dangers from the waves.

I go to a spot at a right angle from the tree and the party to keep an eye on the river, stone readied in a sling.

Begin barrage when ready. :)

I have neither bow nor sling. I will help watch the water.

Right, crystals are bad... and i'm the ranger. Sooo take that!

With an open view to the crystals and about 100' away i'll shoot a bolt from my Xbow at the crystal in the tree.

To Hit:
1d20+6
14+6=20

Dmg:
1d10+0
6+0=6

As one of the crystals shatters (there appear to be at least a dozen) the tree shudders and thrashes, but the waters remain calm

How many crystals did we see?

You mean the dozen or so around the tree or on the seven thousand zombies?

After seeing the waters remain calm, I motion for the continuation of the crystal slaughter.

So is 29 Feet a safe distance or 59 feet?

I am going to assume the latter and take a -2

* Allanon grips a single hand x-bow firmly with one hand and steadies it with his other and lets loose a small bolt at the crystals*

ToHit
1d20+0 (actually its +2-2)
13+0 = 13

Dmg
1d4+0
3+0 = 3

Using longbow at range...

To Hit:
Roll(1d20)-1:
3,-1
Total:2

Damage, ya know, just in case:
Roll(1d8)+0:
6,+0
Total:6

Kupa continues firing as long as there are crystals to hit and no significant reaction.

The waters remain calm as you steadily destroy the crystals. Although the tree thrashes with each shattered crystal the movements become weaker...

When all the visible crystals are gone, Kupa waves Hammerhands in for a closer look.

Can we take 20 on this and skip ahead to where the crystals are all gone?

I am curious to see what happens to all the zombies once the tree is free of the parasites.

With the Crystals at its base destroyed the tree ceases movement...

...how are you checking the waters?

Arthur is watching the waters. But not standing over going look at the pretty fishees. I hope.

Man, no love for the monk, huh? :P

I was standing about 30' from the water's edge, watching for any sign of a disturbance from underneath, like more ripples than usual or splashing along the close shore.

I return back to the group from where I was standing.

Well friends, I don't know if we have solved the problem completely, but at least the tree seems harmless enough now. We should inform the nearest chapel of this undead infestation now that we have at least taken the tree out of the situation. I suggest at the very least keeping our ears open on the road and warn passersby to avoid this area until it can be properly cleansed.

Shall we move on or are there any other suggestions?

Let's get back to the wagons and resume our escort, same travel orders as before - whatever that was. If we come across anyone in authority that we don't decide to kill, we can tell them about the tree.
Travel Orders from before wrote:Allanon/Grafvolluth is scouting in the front.
Alpha Wagon is driven by Jerrod (Human) and is filled with Barrels. Hammerhands is on board.
Beta Wagon is driven by Derek (Human) and is filled with Long Wooden Boxes. Arhur/Arnir is on board.
Charlie Wagon is driven by Yngma (Dwarf) and is filled with Netting wrapped around Small Boxes. Kupa/coopasonic is on board.
Sepha (Human) has her own Horse and rides alongside the Caravan.
Gideon/GrandMof in watching the rear.

That's fine with me, but I do suggest we watch the water closely for a while as we travel.

We should be extra careful indeed. Didn't this all start because we had to travel during the night due to the heat? Do we have a spare or empty barrel or two that can hold water so we don't have to make so many trips back to the river to cool off? That way we can just dole out water as it is needed from the barrels.

Of course, I do suggest that we go for a bit before filling the barrels so close to the danger...

The tiny village consists mainly of farmers. There are only three buildings of note here beyond the farmers huts: the general store and trading post, the wayside temple, and a pub with the appellate Green Things

Posted: Sun Feb 17, 2008 2:58 am

I believe were set on supplies but we should try to talk to someone at the temple about the zombie problem and to see if anyone is availabe to take care of it. Maybe someone would be willing to pay us to take out the infestation once were done with our current mission. Who's going to start asking around?

What is the temple's patron (or matron) deity? If it is a neutral god/goddes, I will go. If it is good, I suggest Kupa the Kindhearted go speak with the leaders. If it is evil, I suggest we move on...after all, we might have killed their pet project... :P

I feel sorta odd being the mouthpiece for a band of heroes as a monk when we have a paladin among us.

Kupa, care to lead the way to the temple and I can accompany you?

/ooc I think heroes is a stretch of the definition personally. My character is far from a hero himself, but I guess I haven't written a bio so you wouldn't really know that. ;)
Hyena wrote:Kupa, care to lead the way to the temple and I can accompany you?
Let's head to the temple, tell them of the tree and zombies we encountered and ask if there is any other interesting news.

Didn't you say something about how he became a paladin to get revenge on people that beat him up as a child or something? He is pudgy and kinda self-centered or something like that.

Or was that one of the other paladins that quit the game?

I'll tag along. I'd like some practice with sense motive and detect evil, etc., if applicable.
