Depending on the price (tickets aren't on sale yet), tlr wants to see Crosby Stills & Nash. I went reluctantly last time they were here, and they were a lot better than I expected.
I spent 90% of the money I made on women, booze, and drugs. The other 10% I just pissed away.

I really wanted to take my boy to see Kiss until I saw a pricetag of $180+ Livenation fees. Kiss can suck it. I can see 5 or 6 shows for that price in intimate venues 100 feet from the stage that Kiss nor The Crue can hold a candle to musically.
And I believe its been 10 years since I saw Kiss on their "farewell" tour.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
Missed Fun last night. They sold out a while ago. (on a Sunday?) Stupid TV commercials making them popular. Ah well. I should still be able to get in to White Denim on Tuesday.
I'm also debating seeing Cults this Saturday. Any one ever catch them?
Next week Sleigh Bells are Wednesday and Anya Marina is Thursday. We'll see how ticket sales go and what times doors are before I think about either one. I'm leaning heavy toward Sleigh Bells but they seem to be picking up more and more steam, and I think the economy is slowly picking up because I'm seeing more and more people out, so I don't doubt they'll sell out unless the playing on Wednesday night thing kills their ticket sales.

I prefer the lawn anyway. Dodging drunken brawls adds excitement to every show!

White Demin's recordings.... Pretty good. Enough to warrant dropping ten bucks to see them live.
White Demin's live show.... O M G Their sound is good and so tight and so diverse it simply must be heard to be believed. Maybe The Flying Frog Brigade displayed this kind of all of the place greatness in live show... Maybe... Their CDs are just a hollow and disappointing reminder of the talent they put into performance now.

lol Skinypupy!! i saw that lineup and thought the same thing! hloy crap that is gonna be one rowdy show.
unfortunately i am going to miss my #1 show this year it looks like....
Cannibal Corpse
Exhumed
Abysmal Dawn
That is gonna be a hell of a rowdy crowd too. Shit, i might be getting too old for shows like these anyhow. I can slam much anymore or i can't get out of bed the next day.
I think i might be out of town for that show you are mentioning when it's here in Denver or i might go. Cattle Decapitation is from Denver and they are just hard and heavy as hell. Great band and i really like them.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
Any RUSH fans going to see the Clockwork Angels tour?
I'm getting to the point where I almost convinced myself to going to concerts, but my uncle emailed me about RUSH coming to Charlotte NC at
Time Warner Cable Arena, and once again I'm thinking about how good of seats I will get.
IF I buy on the day they go on sell it's anybody's guess where I'll be.
IF I buy on the day before pre-sale it's almost the same situation, only the die-hard RUSH fans keep up with pre-sales.
IF I buy on day before pre-sale and go with a VIP package I'm guaranteed seats within the first 15 rows, and it's gonna put a
great big ol' dent on the credit card.
This could be the last concert I ever go see, I'm just really tired of the process of getting to the venue ahead of time, paying for parking,
over-inflated prices for a concert t-shirt, etc.
The VIP package for RUSH I could care less about, it's a bunch of merchandise I don't need or want. The only thing I want is the ticket for the seat as close to the stage as possible.
If I'm going out I'm going out with a bang. BUT...I might change my mind and just buy tickets on the day of general public, and whatever I get I get
and just save the money I would have spent on garbage I don't want or need.
Anybody here spring for the LiveNation VIP RUSH package for this tour? If so, what was final cost? Thanks!

Here's a link to a few shots I took during the Pulp concert at Radio City Music Hall (4/11/2012). What a fantastic concert. Jarvis is still in awesome condition to run around like the maniac he is. There was no opening act, that I am aware of. Superb show and worth every penny.

They are skipping my area for the first time in about 10 years. They usually come twice during the same tour and I see them every time (been going to Rush shows since the early 80s), so I'm not complaining but I would like to see this one.JSHAW wrote:Any RUSH fans going to see the Clockwork Angels tour?

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
There are still tickets for Sleigh Bells tomorrow. I'm thinking I'm going to go... and not take Thursday off of work... which mean staying sober for the entire show... It's really, really sad that only shows I've seen completely sober in the last decade have been dry shows. This should be interesting.
Here's to hoping they don't sell out before I drive town tomorrow... I may even break down and pay Live Nation for an advance seat. When the hell am I supposed to get my discounts on tickets? I've received exactly zero of my vouchers and I've used their service at least six times since they told me I was going to get these vouchers and I've purchased a total of 10 tickets during that time.

There was an opening act, but it only lasted about 20 minutes: Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard. I only caught the final song, which was weird and funny and accompanied by a cartoon slide show.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
Sleigh Bells were fantastic but they had a DJ open for them and even though the doors were at 19:00 and it was an all ages show they didn't take the stage until 22:00. Three hours of a DJ before they got on was painful. It was all I could do not to over drink.
After a bunch of bad show and me just feeling like perhaps I am getting too old for live music, I'm feeling better about live music again. So I'll be off to Spiritualized tonight and Black Jake tomorrow. Next week is Grouplove on Friday and Clutch on Saturday and then a ton maybes between then and the 26th for which I broke down and got a Gogol Bordello ticket.
May's not looking too bad.
Danzig and Roger Water's will open up June.

On Saturday (5/12), I'll be going with some friends to see Chickenfoot at the Chicago Theater. I haven't really heard much of Chickenfoot's music, but since Sammy Hagar is basically the rock version of Jimmy Buffet at this point, it should at least be amusing.
In June, the wife and I will be seeing Craig Finn (of the Hold Steady) playing a solo show at the Empty Bottle in Chicago.

Wow. I thought this was vehicle for Chad Smith. I had no idea what the rest of lineup was. I'm surprised they're playing such tiny venues for such a "reasonable" price. I wonder how Satriani sounds as part of this ensemble. He really did absolutely nothing for me in the 80s while of the rock and roll guitar players I knew wanted to blow him.ImLawBoy wrote:On Saturday (5/12), I'll be going with some friends to see Chickenfoot at the Chicago Theater. I think Satriani has always suffered from the mantle of "technically incredible, but soulless" playing. I listened to him a bit in the '80s, but I always preferred my guitar music to have some lyrics back in the day. Funny that you would pick up on Chad Smith from the lineup, who I would consider the least famous member of the band.LordMortis wrote:Wow. I thought this was vehicle for Chad Smith. I would too. But he was the member I heard about and they guy I heard interviewed for the band and then never gave them a second glance (I'm not a RHCPs fan). Once you mentioned Sammy Hagar, I was trying to put the two together and had to look up the rest of the band. (Edit: Is it sad that I'd probably find a way to go if they did some Montrose tunes?)ImLawBoy wrote:I think Satriani has always suffered from the mantle of "technically incredible, but soulless" playing. I guess I'll throw in my upcoming shows.
Todd Rundgren and the Rockford Symphony. First time he's playing with an orchestra and only doing these 2 shows. Should be quite interesting.
Bob Mould at Summerfest playing Cooper Blue. I went to see Sugar in 1992 at a small club here in Chicago. Had to leave midway thru the first song, as my friends (now ex) wife complained it was too loud, which it abso-fuckin-lutely was, just as it was supposed to be!!
And as long as I'm being nostalgic, gonna throw in Pat Travers in June just for the hell of it.

This Saturday the Dead Milkmen are playing Portland as part of a three-date Pacific Northwest tour. I haven't seen them since 1992. Can't wait!
I also found out that the Corin Tucker Band is playing a free show at a street festival at 6 PM Saturday. They're working on a new album and the last time I saw them they played two tracks from it which I really enjoyed. With a little luck I can fit in both shows in one evening!

A friend of mine just surprised me with two tickets to Michael Franti & Spearhead July 27th. They are coming to my hometown. It will be held in our park amphitheater which is a really intimate venue (<2000). Better yet, it's the day after my wife's birthday, so it will be a nice birthday present - an evening of music underneath the stars.

I blew off Grouplove, figuring I wouldn't have energy for two shows over the weekend... Then Clutch cancelled on Saturday. Reschedule to be determined. Sigh.
So now I'm debating seeing if Hank III has tickets left for tonight as retribution. I might do Colin Hay this weekend if I can find time and I'll close out the month with Gogol Bordello. I keep telling myself I've seen them live so many times and their show keeps becoming more and more standard and less and less memorable as the price for attendance keeps going up but I keep going. It went from necessity to tradition to habit. I think part of the charm, though is that I have a lot of old school friends who still seem to go to this show, so I'll get to meet up with a ton of people I only see two or three times a year and that part alone is almost worth the admission, parking, and inflated beer prices.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
Corin Tucker band was awesome and they played a bunch of new stuff.
She mentioned they have a new album coming out so hopefully I'll be able to buy it soon.
The Dead Milkmen show was at the Hawthorne Theatre. I had never been there before and won't be back - what a hole. It was like standing in an armpit - hot, damp and smelly. The sound was terrible. I couldn't hear much of anything other than a loud roar.
The crowd was very rough and after the second fight next to me resulted in an elbow in my face I bailed.
I think I'm too old for punk shows.

Re: concerts....who you seeing?
Chickenfoot was . . . workmanlike. Oddly enough, given the previous discussion, Chad Smith appears to be hanging out with the Chili Peppers these days, so Kenny Aranoff is touring with the band on drums. That means you've got technically brilliant guitar playing from Satriani, uber professional drumming from Aranoff, solid bass playing from Michael Anthony (no one is ever going to mistake him for John Entwhistle, that's for sure ), and expected ridiculousness from Sammy Hagar (whose hair is more and more comical as his bald spot grows). I should never have spent that much on a show I wasn't really interested in, but it was more about hanging out with my friends. I noted at the end that the only song they played that I really knew was the last song - which was a Montrose cover!

With this is done Hagar has reported that he wants to tour with the chicken foot band to do a career retrospective. Four sets a night. One for each decade. A Montrose set. A Sammy Hagar set. A Van Halen set. A Chicken Foot set. That not only sounds cool, you know that if you want to take a break or take off then you have a good idea of what will playing at any given time.ImLawBoy wrote: I noted at the end that the only song they played that I really knew was the last song - which was a Montrose cover!

Detroit gets a special treat. A world renowned "drum and bass" DJ is "opening" for Gogol Bordello this Saturday. Ugh. This seems to be moving from novelty to trend and I'm not digging it. I almost walked out of Sleigh Bells because sitting through 3 hours of DJ of I don't know what kind of Electronic music was making me that nuts. I don't know what it is or why it is but "House" as we called in the 80s or whatever the gazillion terms for it are now always brings out the Hulk Smash in me.
I wish venues would publish shedules of than "Doors" so you'd know when a good time to show up would be.

Mrs. Skinypupy saw U2 last time they came through, and she was telling me about the "brutal mosh pit". I told her we likely have very different definitions of that word.

Brutal? Or Mosh Pit?Skinypupy wrote:Mrs. Skinypupy saw U2 last time they came through, and she was telling me about the "brutal mosh pit". I told her we likely have very different definitions of that word.
I'm trying to picture people slamming, moshing, wrecking, skanking, whatever the word is nowadays at U2 I'm coming up empty. But then I saw them slamming at Spritiualized when they were supporting the Laser Guided Melodies back in the late 80s/early 90s. People slamming to this:

I was telling the gf that there were people on my boards that would get a kick out of that story. I'm glad I was right.Skinypupy wrote:Isgrimnur wrote:To the girl in the row in front of me with the crappy bleach job and the blingy glasses that looks like you're probably younger than Dave Matthews Band's first album:

It's almost as if people are the problem.

Heartless Bastards put on a great show. Lots of energy and played for a long time (2 hours, maybe?). They also played a small (4 song) accoustic set at a local CD store before the show which was pretty awesome. 7 out of 8 tentacles!
