You know I'm glad you brought this up, because I wonder how many people clicked in expecting me to post a story about my getting into an argument with the cop about how fast I was going. I could continue to demand to see his supervisor, get pulled out of my car onto the sidewalk to talk to the supervisor. Supervisor would come to see me and explain that he's towing my car due to mental state....

That sort of story? No. Didn't happen. I'm not a perfect driver. I admit to mistakes and try to move forward when they are made. I'm not perfect, but that pullover and ticketing went about as absolutely perfectly as it could have gone. I mean I got a ticket but I made the mistake so I will deal with it.

Edit for: When the cop pulled me over, I will admit I was scared shitless. My tags were expired, like most of Portland. Getting pulled over almost never happens to me. I've spent a lot of time on the road, and only been pulled over five times. Only two resulted in tickets. I was immediately put at ease and the officer who had a badge cam on was totally professional. I even got a chuckle out of him. Easy transaction. I finally got off my ass and fixed my tags today too so.

And as far as the ticket goes I'm going to start the process on fixing it this weekend. Nothing to see here. Move along.

O yes. If I wanted to be entertaining I'm sure I could have invented quite the story explaining about how the officer didn't *REALLY* radar me three times. I could post about how I ranted at the cop that " the radar gun makers are in bed with "big traffic enforcement" and "the one percent". Then on this whimsical flight of fancy the officer would then demand that I "exit the car and have a seat on the curb" while he "gets his supervisor"

Of course it would all end in tears with me getting the ticket and having my car impounded for *waives his hand* whatever.

I could then swear a blood oath to file a lawsuit against the City of Beaverton and Beaverton PD.

Of course. Nothing went that way. My sense of whimsy does not include getting my car jacked by the city and hoofing it and or spending a night in processing.

Now, if I had a camera team following me around and monetizing that shit. I could be richer then god.

Here's what I *try* to do when I find myself in a sticky wicket. I don't always follow this perfectly. See above.

Instead of losing my temper and blowing my calm, I maintain patience.

I think about what is happening to me. Is it my fault?

Is it remotely my fault? What did I do to get in this situation?

What is the easiest way to get out of this situation?

What can I do to avoid this in the future?

How do I minimize damage?

I certainly could have asked if "Cameltoe" was taken when the founding klansmen chartered their town, and I wouldn't have been far off the fuckin mark. That said, here was this courteous smiling officer with a gun and the literal power of life and death over me so I decided to smile and play nice.

I was having a good day. I was between window shopping coin shops. Why mess up at the very least my day by arguing with a man who was just trying to professionally do his job? I knew within 30 seconds he had me dead to rights and I was in error.

I apologized profusely, thanked him for pulling me over, when he came over to hand me the ticket I held my hand out the window for the ticket and muttered a mock dejected "you got me" which got a chuckle from him. Then he explained my options, and asked if I had any questions. I had none. I apologized for the trouble, thanked him for the ticket and was on my way.

We both had a job to do, we did it. Without screwing each others day up. Yay us.

By the time I had said that Mr. Laundrie had already crossed the Rubicon. He was already going downtown, it was just a matter of what he did before he got there. What I originally advocated would have destroyed even more lives. Perhaps it's better that his end wasn't more... entertaining.

The last one worked out wonderfully for me. I made just GOBS of money, I was well regarded and worked my butt off. I discovered talents I had NO IDEA I had. I stepped out of my comfort zone and I excelled. I learned that accepting the good is better then waiting forever for the ideal thing.

I always said that the job was just going to be till I found something better, and it took me three weeks off work but I have. I don't think my getting fired from the previous employer was a bad development. The store went under, I was merely given a good head start.

I learned that I am far more talented then I ever thought. So I can shoot for just about any job and do well and work my way up.

But in the future I will avoid situations where I force employers to fire me outright, yes. I will try to keep moving forward.

Now, just take the maturity with which you handled this ticket and apply it to any issues arising with future jobs (and there will always be these) and you will come out ahead in the long run.

It was right beside a trashcan on a pile of garbage. I don't know why I decided to look at it and pick it up let alone keep it. I almost didn't. It looked like costume jewelry. Something told me to take it to my coin dealer. It was gold. I paid a substantial portion towards a coin I have on lay away. And this coin is NOT cheap.

In other news I got fully vaccinated in prep for the job which resumes Monday. I'm going to be picking up the rest of my uniform attire tomorrow. I am SOOOO thrilled to start working.

11 out of ten day so far.

I found a $100 bill on the floor at a fast-casual restaurant last year when I ran in to grab our to-go order.

I didn't turn it in to the manager of the place because, honestly, I figured they would just pocket it, which may be a shitty assumption on my part.

I did, however, ask to see the manager and told them I had found some cash on the floor and gave them my cell number and said if anyone came in looking for money they'd lost to have them call me to identify the amount and location and I'd return it to them.

No one ever called and I was able to enjoy my good luck with no concerns.

A gold necklace seems more identifiable than a lone Benji.

Prolly but then there would have been no one to turn it in to. It was out in the open on a sidewalk by a trashcan with a bunch of other garbage. I didn't find it inside a building otherwise it would have been turned in to their lost and found. I also found another necklace in the parking garage on my first day. That was dutifully turned in.

In an alternate universe I'm writing a short story about how a woman finally decided to accept the offer to become a vampire, tearing the cross from her neck in a Target parking lot and tossing it toward the trash before seeing her final sunrise. It wasn't until after the necklace was gone that she finally realized her mistake - she was never going to be made a vampire; she was always just food.

I HAVE BEEN DOING WELL IN TRYING TO OVERCOME MY PERSONAL FAILINGS. I feel like I've made progress. I try to keep things positive. Even if I get shitcanned for bullshit (WHICH I FUCKIN WAS)) I pick myself up, and I go forward. I *try* to put a positive spin on things. I have failings I'm human. I'm wrong and I accept constructive criticism.

From this point forward, I will NOT BE ACCPETING NEGATIVITY. I won't do it. I'll leave this forum before I spend one cycle of unnecessary brain activity on some forum posters negatively impugning my character.

Criticize. Please, point out my failings make good constructive criticism. If you're negative tho, keep it out, or I'm calling you on it.

Your posts in my threads have gone past pretending to care all the way to pop in to express negativity towards me in just about every single thing I post. In terms of constructive criticism, you definitely need to improve upon your ability (or lack thereof) to take crap with dignity and style. Because it’s perfectly typical to be questioned, heckled, negatively criticized, or even berated. Such is life when interacting with others, especially in the workplace. Learn to laugh or shrug it off, and grow a thicker skin. Show that it has no meaning, no sting. Because the more you fight back and resist such perceived affronts, the more you give 'em life and credibility. Every time you bristle and defend yourself, you inevitably invite counterattack.

The best explanation of this I ever received came from a black friend and colleague many years ago. He explained the notion of a street insult game he grew up with called 'Dozens.' Dozens teaches kids to handle verbal abuse. They learn looseness and agility in conversational play. The worst taunts imaginable -- typically insults of each other’s mothers -- are hurled back and forth. "Yo’ mama so stupid, she put airbags on her computer in case it crashed." "Oh yeah? Well, yo’ mama so fat, it took me two buses and a train to get to her good side." Etc. Etc. In other words, Dozens is the origin of pretty much all the countless "Yo' mama!" jokes. What happens is that one player finally takes it personally and reacts in anger. They lose face and lose credibility. They also lose the game, and get laughed at. The point being, by playing Dozens again and again, they eventually learn to catch on that such attacks carry only the weight they allow 'em to. They learn that if they do not rise to the bait and make no big deal of even the most derisive insults to their mother, there’s really not much incentive for anyone to continue insulting them outside of the game.

Though having said that, I would hasten to add, I am certainly NOT implying that Blackhawk's rather innocuous remark even remotely resembled a "Yo' mama!" joke. So insisting in righteous ALL CAPS indignation how you will "NOT BE ACCEPTING NEGATIVITY" from this point forward just makes you come across as thin-skinned and risible.
