I sure hope Zach Braff wisely invested his money from Scrubs, because I seriously doubt he's ever going to get serious work again.

I liked "Garden State". Sort of.

Scrubs was "serious" work?

When did guys become too lazy to carry their briefcases? I see all sorts of guys walking down the hall at work, wimpy bags trailing on wheels. I don't trust any of them.

Our IT department forces those bags on anyone who has a laptop; we don't want to give them any reason they might drop it or complaining that it's too heavy after they complain that the battery life sucks and get an extended battery that makes the laptop half again as heavy as it was.

So the other day I was watching Apocalypse Now Redux with my stepson. He kept a narration of the movie going the whole time telling me how "realistic" it was.
Later on asked what I did and I told him. Then he asked what my "kill count" was.
I just told him I didn't keep track of such things, but I was shocked at his attitude beyond belief.

I never thought I'd be so grateful for an 83 degree day. With a low cloud cover and no humidity, it almost feels...nice!

I got glasses prior to age 1. From what I've been told they just go with the rough prescription that they can get by looking into your eyes and measuring the curvature. Its not perfect but if you are near sighted enough to need glasses before you can talk its still an improvement.

I got mine in 1st grade after I asked the teacher if I could move to the front row so I could see the chalkboard. Until then neither my parents nor I realized that I was nearsighted.

I noticed last week that the neighbor child we call Crash wears glasses. I don't think he's in school yet. Makes me wonder if poor eyesight is the reason his parents always make him wear a helmet.

Not really sure if the local bar crew suggesting that you and your buddies look like the cast of The Hangover is a good or bad thing, but fun was had. Regardless, it was all worth it when I made this shot:

Went to Arby's for lunch and soon after we start eating Elise says "Dad, this chicken tastes funny."

That's probably because it wasn't cooked. At all. It was pink, cool and slimy.

They about shit themselves when I let them know. They refunded the meal, brought out new chicken and threw in a shake.

Elise seems fine but I don't think we'll be eating Arby's again anytime soon.

At least a couple days that are mostly unpaid time off. I had to drop ship my laptop to the client's service center on Friday, as they determined that the only way to address my problems was to reimage it. So I called in for 15 minutes to the weekly conference call, got the e-mail web link, made sure my calendar was clear after that, and told the boss I'd be sporadically checking things and call me if anything came up.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I believe that is not normal, but I've only been in IT for ~20 years so maybe I missed it.

Sounds like somebody has been reading some whack management books, and is looking for ways to trim staff.

I think this sort of thing was supposed to be replaced with anonymous employee surveys.

I am moving tomorrow night. To the same place I lived 15 months ago. With a fiancee, this time. And a cat. While the owner of said place is allergic to cats.

This is going to end.... poorly.

Achievement unlocked: This afternoon I successfully removed our 1940s-era gas range and installed its replacement. The 70-year-old connection was as stubborn as I had feared it might be, and the 3/4" pipe wasn't quite compatible with my newfangled connector hose, but a quick trip to the hardware store for a $3 adapter solved that. Saved the $65 delivery fee by picking it up myself, the $55 permit fee by not getting one, and at least one hour's labor by a plumber/installer...who undoubtedly would've insisted on bringing it up to code and driven the cost up well past $200.

It works great and all connections are tight. Should be set for another 70 years or until we can update our kitchen, whichever comes first. I done good.

Hey, cuz, can you spare $50 bucks for gas/lawyer fees/my kid's tuition/groceries/light bill/cellphone bill? -- question at least one of my freakin' cousins ask weekly. I refuse to move just because of having junkie/ex-con relatives but it's tempting.

We moved the old 1940s-era range out to the curb and my wife posted it on craigslist (for free). Then we walked down to Chilis for dinner. When we got home two hours later it was gone and she had three emails asking about it.

Apparently there's a huge demand for vintage appliances, although you can't actually get money for them unless they're in good working order. It's cool that somebody's going to rehab it and put it back in service...I had thought it was just a heavy piece of scrap metal.

Almost started singing to my coffee today after the first sip, umm so good. A mix of regular Starbucks medium roast and Stop and Shop's Natures Promise decaf (french press style but my version leaves some of the grounds at the bottom of the cup). Plus 3 tablespoons of Ghirardelli hot chocolate mix.

I don't drink high-test coffee, so it will be a zany day for a few hours at least
