OO Boardgamers, what did you play this weekend?

Played Ninjato and was completely ineffective, losing to three others.

Taught Letters from Whitechapel and managed to not get overconfident and eke out a win. The players, all first timers, had me clued on my location at least four times during the game. Night three was the closest to a win, and I needed a carriage to escape the dragnet.

Played Endeavor for the first time and managed to cannon my way to a 2nd place finish out of four.

Carbon Unit Designated "Wife" obtained Evolution and the Flight expansion for my birthday so we played it Saturday with some friends we were visiting, as well as a game of Munchkin with some new stuff we picked up.

even the aforementioned spouse played in both games

(Finally) got in two games of Harbour last night. It really should have been called "Tiny Epic Le Havre". Only played it two player, I would like to try it with 3 or 4, I think the interaction would be way more interesting. But it's a good filler game like most of Almes' games are.

BGG.CON starts tomorrow. hopefully I will get to play something.

Only things I am actually looking to pick up if available are the Tash-Kalar and Shadowrun: Crossfire expansions. I have no idea if either will actually be there, but I know the publishers will be so I should at least see them.

I also want to play Fury of Dracula that I picked up recently... I have no idea what else is new and exciting, but I am sure SpaceLord will tell me all about them.

I ordered a copy of Mistfall from Coolstuff last week and it arrived yesterday. I just ran through a quick solo game and I gotta say, this really does feel like a combination of Mage Knight and Pathfinder the Adventure Card Game. It has the same puzzle feel as Mage Knight (should I play these cards to get this effect, or should I play these other ones to get something else???), and the location abilities/events of Pathfinder ACG. Toss in the enemy mechanic from Lord of the Rings LCG and you've got a great game with some real meat on its bones. Doesn't hurt that you can play solo or up to 4 with no problem.

And because I'm a bit of an Ignacy fan, I also grabbed a copy of a sequel to one of his earliest games, Zombiaki II: Attack on Moscow. It was less than 10 bucks, but it looks interesting and fun for that price point.

Finally played a game of terra mystica. I have to say I was impressed overall, but I think the hype surrounding it is a bit much, even with as good as it is. Great game though. I played it with four.

Cards Against Humanity is doing a Fantasy Pack, and all profits go to Pat Rothfuss' Worldbuilders charity drive. I used the opportunity to grab the Big Box, another expansion, and the Fantasy Pack.

I like Terra Mystica but it somehow seems a bit forced to me. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but it seems like a game designed to be gamey, rather than having all the parts just fit together naturally.

Played a 4 hour game at a gaming convention a few years ago; never again. It was 100% point salad at the end. I have no idea why it's so popular, but I guess if like Euro style games it's the way to go, but a four hour 6 player game with a GM was all I needed.

I felt the same way about it. It was fun, but it felt like a point salad Euro. It had no heart. It felt like a bunch of mechanics thrown together. I'm not anti Euro, but the game felt Euro for the sake of being Euro. I'll play it again but I was very surprised with its popularity after playing it. I guess I expected more. I expected something special.

Fury of Dracula - it has the same problem of Arkham Horror. Without spending truckloads of time mining the deck for items, you are ineffective at best. The minion vampires have the same combat options and capability as the Big Bad, just fewer HP.

I was almost wiped by a minion vamp. After one play, I am not a fan.

I love Fury of Dracula. I'm not a fan that to have the best experience you need to have 5 players playing. We never liked playing FoD with more than one character/player.

Well I've only played it once, and it was a learning game and my expectations were likely far too high after hearing so much about it. I'll give it another go but not sure when since it does seem a bit on the long side.

Terra Mystica is a very Euro Euro. If you like chasing points through various game mechanics, it's a beautifully elegant design.

The asymmetrical abilities are pretty cool, much like the substantial benefit of building NEXT to your opponents for a discount, which they will benefit from -- it's a weird add-on mechanic that encourages tension.

I like and own Terra, but haven't been able to play much.

Nobody at the Passport Games booth can tell me anything about Mistfall. It's annoying. There is a copy in the library and funagain has it for sale, but I want someone to demo it to me.

I like Fury of Dracula a lot more than Isgrimnur, but then again I was playing the guy built to go toe to toe with Drac, Lord Goddamnit or something like that.

Splendor was fun and might be wife-friendly.

I really liked SMOG: On her majesty's something or other, Isg wasn't there to see that one.

I still love Tash-Kalar and hopefully CGE gets the corrected new expansion in today.

Played The Networks with the designer and really liked it (for a euro).

I've played Burgle Bros twice now and really like it. It's pretty random and I was really glad when I was able to run to the vendor room mid-game to ask the designer for a clarification on one of the cards. It's a shame you can't always do that.

Martian Dice is light steve jackson games lightness.

The car wars card game is dumb.

That's all I can remember at this point. Two days to go!

We're getting a snow storm tonight and I'm stocking up on Dortmunder and snacks for a day long game of Mistfall tomorrow. I may have some folks show up, but I'm not counting on it now.

But it works great solo playing at least two of the seven heroes included.

It would definitely help to have someone demo it. It's got a lot of moving parts that can be confusing at first. It also has a couple of small rules that really need better definition. But it's a first edition, so I'm hoping they clean that up with expansion erratas (something they've already promised to do).

But when it clicks, it's immensely fun. And there's a mini campaign expansion coming out soon that will address my biggest issue of not having continuity like the Pathfinder ACGs between scenarios.

I believe someone has a Tabletop Simulator mod up for it on Steam. I'll have to look into that.

But my two cents? If you liked the Pathfinder ACG AND you wanted a little more meat on them bones, grab yourself a copy. You won't regret it.

Good to hear that about Mistfall, Hep. I got the kickstarter version from someone on BGG. I won't have it until Christmas, though. But it is good to hear your good thoughts on it.

We have similar tastes in games, so I know you'll love it.

The only downside I can think of is that it really will need a steady stream of expansions to ensure it has legs after a few play throughs. The release of the first campaign pack in December seems to indicate that is the case...for now.

I investigated Star Trek: Five-year Mission. It looked like it was all about dice acquisition and number matching/beating. Not something I'd want to spend a lot of time on.

Coop and I got the pitch on Mysterium. Clue meets Dixit was the initial pitch. I have no familiarity with Dixit, but Mysterium looked so subjective that I have no interest in playing it.

Subjectivity is pretty much the whole point of Mysterium, so if that's not up your alley, then yeah, I would definitely avoid it.
