Prediction: as Harris/Walz celebrate a 'joyful' campaign, the Trump team will start to say they don't care about the crap happening in Iran/Israel, etc.

Love that the Dems stumbled upon the MAGAts' Achilles heel -- they can't handle being ridiculed. Trump et. al. thrive on being called a threat to democracy because that makes them powerful. Making them a laughingstock instead is brilliant. Keep it up!
Yep...I think you nailed it. It was a huge, MAGA-empowering mistake to think that calling out how dangerous their ideology (and as a result, them) was, would either fire people up against them, or shame them somehow.
This is at least somewhat related to my hating the whole "IS THIS UNPRECEDENTED, OR WHAT?!?" bullshit that liberal media and talking heads and influencers used during Trump's admin. That kind of reaction just fuels the MAGA fire, and they can point and say (and did, often) "See? What we are doing is making the liberals lose their damn minds...they can't handle it! Must be doing something right!"

So where is Trump, anyway? He's down to like a single rally a week. He doesn't even have a court schedule to keep him busy these days.
They're sending Vance out to do the actual campaigning, but this is precisely the time to be barnstorming the country and introducing the ticket as a pair.
Leaving aside the possibility of health problems, it seems like Trump is giving up the race. Clearly it's just not fun anymore. It's also quite possible that he has already soured on Vance. They definitely aren't a team.

I saw someone point out that maybe the reason Trump doesn't seem to be trying is that he doesn't think he has to try....he's fully counting on his slate of MAGA sleeper agents to not certify the election results and have the SC hand him the White House.
I don't necessarily buy into that theory - I think he just doesn't have an answer. He has run shitty campaigns his entire life, it just happens that the one in 2016 worked. Now that this playbook isn't working, he doesn't know how to respond.

And proving yet again that the GOP has no sense of irony.
Where in which this is the most obvious case and perhaps only time (scenario wise, not specifically) when truly the person firing the gun had absolutely NO intention of even firing a gun.... and so it was indeed the Gun that killed someone this time, not ‘the shooter’.
So fucking annoying when they think they have a ‘gotcha’ but don’t realize it’s actually not one, but their people eat it anyway.

Not sure if we are just being trolled, or if it's simply yet another example of how the GOP has absolutely no sense of irony.

His strategy lately has been to promise a pony in every pot. First it was exempting tips from taxes, pitched to hotel workers in NV. Then he told a gathering of CEOs that he'll slash the corporate tax rate. Today he said he'll exempt Social Security benefits from taxes. These are all popular with targeted groups; 40% of the 70M SS recipients are taxed -- that's a LOT of seniors. 'Course, it's easy to give away trillions in revenues without any pay-fors...but he's not a detail guy.

That CEO meeting was the one where most of them walked away thinking he's an incompetent nut job. One asked him why he picked the tax rate he did and his only response was that it was a round number.

This is our concern, Dude. And maybe not even that specifically...he and his proxies have already stated many times that he can't lose. Even if he loses, it's not a loss, it was stolen. "Too big to lose" mentality I guess.
And the people suggesting he's out of sight because of health reasons...really, again we're going there? He's not going to die soon, people, sorry, that's just wishful thinking. Lots of those comments here several years ago as well, as if he was on death's door because he's overweight and would hopefully just die off. I think we should assume he will be alive for at least 4 more years.

I watched some recap videos of the Trump press conference. Some of the highlights:
- Claimed to have a bigger crowd size than MLK's famous speech. Claimed they said MLK had a million people and that he only had 20,000, but if you looked at pictures they were exactly the same and he had more. Also ranted about Kamala's crowd sizes not being as much as his (smallpenissayswhat?)
- Claimed oil was at 7, 8, 9 dollars a barrel ????????
- Got SUPER defensive when asked about how his ear was healing. Also claimed to be "a very fast healer."
- Attacked a (female) reporter for asking a "stupid question" when she asked why he hadn't been on the campaign trail in a week and was going to non-swing state Montana tomorrow. Rambled about being on TV and radio and that he had made commercials at Mar-a-lago like nothing you'd ever seen. ???
- Claimed Tim Walz was "big into the transgender world" and had viewpoints that "you couldn't even believe were possible."
- Some rambling nonsense about WWIII starting and how much China and North Korea love him.
- Said Kamala Harris was "too stupid" to hold a press conference
He's completely and utterly deranged. The idea that this absolute lunatic can carry ONE state, much less enough to make the race a coin toss is extremely frightening. Trump is not a sane person, period.
However, if he thought this was going to help him at all, he's sorely mistaken. He got his name back in the headlines for a day, but at best he only re-appealed to his base, and at worst he's just reminding people again of how batshit crazy he is.
I think the only real news coming out of the whole thing is that he is planning to attend the ABC debate. He also claimed to have agreed to two other debates, but I don't think the Harris campaign has agreed to those yet. (I know one is Fox, and I don't think she's going to agree to that one).

I think this shows (if he doesn't back out again) that he is desperate to get the spotlight back on him, and dreams about his success against Biden. But this is where Harris is miles ahead of Biden and she will go on offense. It will be like a convicted felon going before the parole board.

I will believe he'll make that debate when he appears on stage at that debate and not a moment before. I'd get my fainting couch, but I'm not sure that's wise given the, uh, current political environment.

A trump sign appeared on another neighbor's lawn this morning, so I just broke down and bought a "Kamala Harris/Obviously" sign for my lawn. And a little "Cats for Kamala" flag for Wife. Mine will be the first Harris sign anywhere on my 3-mile walking route, vs. at least a dozen trump signs.
Not that there's the remotest chance of trump taking MA...I'm just getting pissed off.
Besides, we'll be moving in about 6 weeks so I'll be safely in the Berkshires before the rioting starts.
